I read this book when I was in elementary school, so maybe around 10 or so years ago. Around 2009/late 2000s. I found this book at the library at my school, and I remember that there was a character named Karma. I can't remember if it was just Karma or Karma with an H like Kharma or Karmah. I remember that the main character of the book, a girl, became intrigued by her or something, that they were at a reception of some sort (a wedding maybe?) and that the Karma girl and her mom were eating salad. I remember that the main character and Karma became friends, and that there was an incidence at the mall. I think it was shoplifting. Karma also invited the main character to "her house" which ended up not being hers at all. I think in the end it was discovered that Karma's whole life was a lie, that she and her mom were horrible people and con artists, and I think that Karma might not have even been her real name. I don't know if any of this helps because the memory of the book is so fuzzy, but this has legit been bothering me for years.
Also, I think the house Karma lied about being hers was like a vacation home or a beach house or something, and that the main character stayed there and something bad happened to it and this caused some sort of issue.
