Atlanticus, what's the mystery?
What's the location (country/region/city/small town)?
What type of articles/books does she write? Where is she published?

I think it takes place in a city, because the protagonist lives in an apartment and the male protagonist is her neighbor.
As for the rest, I have absolutely no idea.

The main character was a teenage girl?"
Probably not teenage, because she's already working and all that.
Now that you mention it, maybe it's not YA. It just feels YA to me in my usually-not-super-accurate-memory.
If you know any books that sounds like this one, and it's not YA, feel free to bring it up, thanks.

Beautiful Lies by Lisa Unger.
What if your name was a lie? What if your whole life was a lie? In the split second freelance writer Ridley Jones saves a small child from being run over, her life changes forever. A newspaper photographer catches everything on film and Ridley becomes an instant media darling. But just as her life seems to be settling back to normal, an unmarked envelope is slipped under her door. It contains the newspaper article, along with an old photograph of a man, a woman who looks eerily like Ridley, and a little girl. The accompanying note reads simply: "Are you my daughter?" Forced to question everything she thought she knew about herself and her family, Ridley wanders into a dark underworld she never knew existed. Now she's not sure who is on her side or who has something to hide even and maybe especially Jake, her new neighbour - a stranger she is irresistibly drawn to, who seems to have secrets of his own.

Thanks, I think this is it!
Just curious: do I need to move this post to another topic group file or something, now that the question has been solved?
Glad you found your book, Atlanticus. I marked your request as "Solved" by clicking the small "edit" link after the topic header/title. This only works on the full desktop website - not the mobile website or app.

I read it on vacation, a paper copy. The cover was sort of red and black. The summary or title has the word 'lie' in it somewhere.
The protagonist is a female freelance writer. Her uncle left her a hefty sum of inheritance or something, so she has no money issues.
One day, the protagonist is walking on the street, and she saves a child from getting ran into by a truck. And then she goes on the newspaper and gets somewhat famous.
There's this neighbor boy, who gets all lovey-dovey with her. I think I remember a scene where the boy pushes a lock of her hair behind her ears.
I have no idea what happens next. I'm pretty sure I finished the entire thing, but I have a really bad memory.
So, yeah...
