Josie (j_osie) | 48 comments 1ST TEAM QUARTERLY CHALLENGE: THE SERIES CHALLENGE (Jan.1st-Mar.31st) [signed up for 5 books a month]

LINK TO CHALLENGE: https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...

The only rules that apply to this challenge (other than the general rules) are that you get bonus points for reading a book that’s a part of a series. However, there is a stipulation when it comes to standalones. (keep reading for details)

Here is how the bonus points will work:
1st book in a series - 1 bonus point
2nd book - 2 bonus points
3rd book - 3 bonus points
4th book - 4 bonus points
5th+ book - 5 bonus points

So if you read the 7th, 13th, or 22nd etc. book in a series you will get a max of 5 bonus points per book.

Because this is The Series Challenge we’re encouraging you to read books that come from a series. However, if you read a standalone it can still count. There is a catch though. Standalones can either count for the same type of bonus points as a series book OR it can count for negative points. It’s the risk you decide to take when posting a standalone. I will use a wheel generator to decide what your points will be for the standalone. You will still receive page & BR points for the book and the “bonus” points for your standalone will go into the bonus points column.

The “bonus” points you can receive for a standlone are -5 through 5 and 10. (aka you will not receive bonus points between 6-9)

You can see the bonus points wheel HERE

Points for pages read are the same as always.

Page Points
1 - 99 pages - 0.5 pts
100 - 149 pages - 1 pt
150 - 249 pages - 2 pts
250 - 349 pages - 3 pts
350 - 449 pages - 4 pts
450 - 549 pages - 5 pts
550+ pages - 6 pts

When posting reviews to the review thread, please post them like the following:

Bookcover
Review: Link
Pages: #
BR: Link (if applicable)
Number of the book in the series or Standalone

Josie (j_osie) | 48 comments THE RESOLUTIONS CHALLENGE (Jan.1st-Jan.31st) [signed up for 6+ books a month]

LINK TO CHALLENGE: https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...

Page Points
1 - 99 pages → 0.5 pts (and it will only count for page points - not categories)
100 - 149 pages → 1 pt
150 - 249 pages → 2 pts
250 - 349 pages → 3 pts
350 - 449 pages → 4 pts
450 - 549 pages → 5 pts
550+ pages → 6 pts

**If a task has this by it, you will lose 1 point per book within the series that you didn’t read. Novellas and books that haven’t been published yet will not be counted against you - only full books will be.

Josie (j_osie) | 48 comments WINTER CHALLENGE 2019 (Dec.1st-Feb.29th)

LINKS TO CHALLENGE:

-Only one task may be included in a post

1. Include your Readerboard name at the TOP of your post.
(Not required if your Readerboard name is the same as the name that appears in the shaded area above your posts.)

2. Include Task # and a short (1-5 word) Task Description.

3. To claim a task in Completed Tasks, the book you use MUST exist on Goodreads. Instructions on manually adding a book to the Goodreads database can be found in post 9 of Add a book instructions. You MUST include a link to the book edition you read and the link must be included along with the specific task posting information. For instructions on adding a link, see post 1 of Add book/author/cover Instructions in General Help.

Note: If no link, then NO points, NO Big Book tickets, NO Golden Oldies tickets.

If the task involves a picture on the cover of the book, you MUST include the cover itself in your post.

Note: If no cover, then NO points, NO Big Book tickets, NO Golden Oldies tickets.

4. Include a brief explanation to clarify how your book(s) fit the task if it is not obvious.

5. Task creators should update posts 2 and/or 3 in their Help Threads with approved books, but the responsibility for that pre-approval information lies with the poster. The moderators will not search the help threads to look for pre-approvals. If you had a book pre-approved, including a link to the Help Thread approval may help keep you out of the Questions/Problems thread.

6. A newly completed tasks must be listed clearly and separately - do not include it in a list with previously completed tasks or partially completed tasks.
(If you want to include this extra information, list the newly completed task separately at the TOP of your post, and indicate clearly that it is the new one.)

7. If your book has the genre "childrens" or "kids" on its main page, it must meet the criteria specified in the Rules of the Challenge. All AR Bookfinder information MUST be posted when the book is claimed for points or no points will be awarded (You can copy the AR BookFinder ratings)
ex. Anne of Green Gables by L.M. Montgomery
IL: MG - BL: 7.3 - AR Pts: 17.0

Books that have an IL designation of MG+, UG, or UY (in the UK) may be used with no restrictions (other than general SRC and specific task requirements) . However, you must state the IL designation when you post the book.

If a book has "childrens" or "kids" listed as a main page genre and has been ok'd in the Not Really for Kids thread, you must include the post number or google document line approval when you post in Completed Tasks.

8. If you want to claim a Golden Oldies or a Big Books ticket, you must specifically say so in your post - merely including a tally at the beginning or end of your post is not sufficient. Make sure to note "Golden Oldies," or "GO" or "Big Books ticket" or "BB ticket" in your post. The BB or GO claim must be made with the specific book posting - a list at the end or beginning of the post is not sufficient.

If you are claiming a GO ticket, you must include the year in which the book was first published in your post along with the book posting for the task.

If you are claiming a BB ticket, you must include the number of pages in the book. Be sure that the link you provide goes to the edition you actually read, with the correct number of pages. If you used an ebook or an audiobook, include a link to the paper edition used to establish length.

9. If you choose to read a book contained in an "omnibus" edition, or a play in a collection (see Rule 11 in the Rules of the Challenge), you must identify this in your post.

If you do choose to read an element isolated from an aggregate work, you MUST include a link to the book that you read AND provide a link to a separately published work that relates to the isolated title.

10. If your book is an ebook with no print version, you must have it approved for length before posting in the ebook page verification thread: Ebook page verification in General Help.
Your post must include the line number of the approval in the ebook spreadsheet or a link to the post in which the ebook was approved for length.

11. If the task requires that a particular genre be found on the book's main page, check that the genre is there at the time you post. If it is, nothing more is required. If it is not, but you had the genre pre-noted in the help thread or the genre verification thread, include a link to the approval post in your completed task posting.

12. Only one task may be included in a post.

13. While it is OK to shift books between tasks during a challenge, you must make it clear from which tasks books are being removed and to which tasks they are being added. If you are replacing a book in a 2 book task, you must repost that task completely, including both books for verification purposes.

14. If a task contains multiple options, your post must specify the options that you are using.

15. NEVER delete a post from the Completed Tasks thread.
(You can edit the post to replace all the text with “***DELETED***” but leave the post in the thread so the other post numbers do not shift.)

16. Include an up to date total of points in your post. (For purposes of Moderators' Pet, math errors will be forgiven!)

Bonus Challenge:
Spell-it-out

HAPPY NEW YEAR

Read a book where either a word in the title, series OR the authors name starts with a letter in Happy New Year.

Example: If you read Prince of Thorns (The Broken Empire, #1) by Mark Lawrence, you can claim P or E.

1 point per letter. Each book can only cover 1.
Finish the entire phrase and get and extra 5 points
You can also repeat letters. However we are not moving letters once you've posted. So choice wisely.

All series books can earn you base points. They do not have to fit the spell it out!

Josie (j_osie) | 48 comments JANUARY CHALLENGE OF THE MONTH: HAPPY (UN)BIRTHDAY TO YOU (Jan.1st-Jan.31st)

LINK TO CHALLENGE: https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...

#1. Guest of Honor . . . YOU!
Read a book where the author's first name initial is the same as yours or the author's last name initial is the same as yours. Or if you don't want to use yours, you can use mine. S.B.
Alice said you could use hers, but wouldn't share her last name (I've heard tell that it is Lidell)

#2. The Big Day
Read a book published on the month, day, or year of your birth.
Example : My Birthday is February 29, 1900.
Read a book published in February, a book published on the 29th of any month, or a book published in 1900.
That makes me almost 30 since February 29th only happens once every four years

#3. Who to Invite?! Invite some friends. Read two books you found on a shelf of a Goodreads friend. Cannot use the same friend for both.
Tweedledee
Tweedledum
The Mods would like to be your friend. The Caterpillar too, but he won't share his hookah

#4. Party Decorations! . . . Balloons, Streamers, Banners, etc
Read a book with DECORATE (-s, -ed, - ing, -tion(s), -tive, -or) found in the text.
The White Rabbit offered to help with the decorating but I guess he's late for an important date.

#5. Party Food! . . . Cake, Ice Cream, and . . . Tea?
Cake! -- Read a book with all letters of CAKE found in the title/subtitle
Ice Cream! -- Read a book that makes you scream (your interpretation)
Tea! -- Read a book with a title that starts with a T (easy peasy)
The Mad Hatter thanks you for your choice of drink

#6. Party Games . . . Three-Legged Race, Pin the . . . , Musical Chairs
Three-Legged Race -- Read a book that has a 3 in the page count
Pin the __________ on the __________ --So many variations to this one, and your book title will give us yet another one. Read a book with a book title that has the words "on the" intact in the title and fills in the blanks to rename this game.
Example : The Girl on the Train, Murder on the Orient Express
Does not work : On the Road (no word to fill in first blank)
Musical Chairs -- Read a book with a chair on the cover
The Queen of Hearts is quite disappointed you didn't plan a game of croquet. Off with your head!

#7. Read a book of choice.
