I read a book in 6th grade (2004) about a kid and his struggles with middle school. I remember he wanted to get an ear pierced because he thought it was cool. I also remember he went to a party with alcohol but he didn't drink any of it and one of his "friends" poured beer on him. Like, idk, he was a good kid trying to do good things but made friends with a couple of the wrong people. I'd bet the book was from the 90s.
