Amanda (stoneknivesandbearskins) | 86 comments Read in early 2010s, was part of a series (I think) on different historical women/girls. Was in the YA section of my local library. The cover was of the back of a dark-haired girl in an ancient Egypt costume overlooking the desert or the Nile. You know, the most stereotypical thing you could possibly associate with Egypt.

Anyway, the main character was still a child at the beginning of the book. I remember for some reason she became upset and fell asleep near a statue of the goddess Isis. While she slept she dreamed that the statue came to life and comforted her, told her some kind of news (?)

She had a newborn baby sister, and her parents allowed her to choose the secondary name to fool evil spirits with. The name she chose meant "honey" or "sweet". She was very protective of her sister and constantly watched over her.

Bridget (oobridgetoo) | 171 comments I think this may be Sphinx's Princess by Esther Friesner. It's part of her 'Princesses of Myth' series. =)
