Awad Sharar | 6 comments Hi Robin,
SOME beautiful people made SOME promise for SOME one when they have SOME time, SOME weeks ago. For SOME reason, perhaps when they got SOME more beauty, they needed SOME people to remind them of SOME thing: SOME one's book needs SOME review. SOME hope that SOME one will hear SOME reply from SOME people whom he estimates highly. That SOME one will really owe SOME critics/ reviewers SOME (a lot of) gratitude, SOME gratefulness and SOME appreciation.

Robin (robingregory) Hi Awad!

You're funny! I have about 42 books promised ahead of yours, sorry. I can only do so much. I am an author, not a pro reviewer. I will take a look when I can. And I will review it if I feel I can give it a 4 or 5 rating. Warm blessings.

Warm greetings, Amit!

Are you a writer too? What kind of books do you like to read?

message 162: by Amit (new)

Amit Dholakia | 2 comments Hi Robin! Thanks for your message. I do write. In fact, I am compelled to write professionally - mostly of the academic kind and on political and social themes. However, of late, I have developed a deeper interest in creative writing and philosophical themes and have started penning prose poems and essays in my mother tongue.

I like to read any book broadly falling within social sciences and human sciences domains and the one that is created using words exuding the power of the mind, honesty of purpose, unpretentious approach and beauty.

Shall look forward to learn from as well as contribute to the process of sharing occurring here in this group...

I can only suggest that you start writing down things that come to you in a journal. Start playing with words. Don't worry about publishing till you have had plenty of time to experiment, to find your way of "speaking" on paper, to get comfortable with word-play and developing ideas. Also, reading books that inspire you--studying how authors get their ideas across can be very helpful.

message 181: by Dean (new)

Dean Robertson (agingwriter) | 6 comments Hello, everyone, I am new to this group. My name is Dean Robertson (a Ms, not a Mr), I am a seventy-year-old first time grandmother, first time author, retired English teacher, veteran of the love and the changes that came rolling into this country in the early 1960's. Last year I wrote a book. An unexpected event as I've never had any aspirations to write a book. It is a memoir about these very subjects--love and change--as it narrates the stories of the women in an unconventional Bible study in an unusual assisted living facility. It is about the power of community and the power of love and trust. I was the leader of that Bible study. It was magic to watch these ninety-year old women, not looking for a new lease on life, blossom as they discovered their own voices and listened to the voices of others, discovered that they could be heard and respected, could ask hard questions, say outrageous things, in this safe place we created. It is also the story of a nineteenth-century woman, for whom the Home is named, the new bride of a Union soldier, returned to Norfolk, VA, after the Civil War, to make his fortune in lumber. While her husband was building one of the largest lumber empires in the Southeast, Lydia Roper was birthing children and taking to the streets of Norfolk to establish homes for unwed mothers and to work with women and the poor. She took her love into her adopted city and died a well-loved citizen. I would like to add my book to the bookshelf and several blog posts and my website wherever they are appropriate. Lovely group to have found.

Robin (robingregory) Hi Dean!

Congratulations on your book. It looks interesting. I added it to my TBR list and followed you. Rudyard Kipling is one of my favorites, too!

My debut novel, THE IMPROBABLE WONDERS OF MOOJIE LITTLEMAN, might interest you. It is a story about, among other things, a disabled boy's awakening. It has won 14 awards. Presently, I'm working with a producer to develop a screen adaptation. And I just signed a contract for a Chinese translation. Yay! I wonder if you would like to read a little snippet: http://bit.ly/2aN0SW5

You'll see on both pages some samples of book reviews I've done for over twenty authors over the past year--all free. Would you be interested in swapping reviews? Or, I will be happy to review your book if you'll subscribe to my blog (don't do it yet; a rebuild is in progress) http://pdrobertson.com.

Meanwhile, I'll check out your accounts and take a look at the excerpt from MOOJIE LITTLEMAN.

Dean Robertson (agingwriter) | 6 comments Robin,
I love the book and, perhaps even more, your "other writings" and your blog. It appears we have a good bit in common. I lived in northern California for a number of years, got my M.A. at Cal State Sonoma, then headed back to the Southeast and my family. I spent two wonderful years in Berkeley and another two in Bodega Bay.

I, too, believe in healing and, especially in the wonderful myth of the wounded healer.

And the literary nature of your blog posts is exciting to this retired teacher of literature--30+ years in independent secondary schools and small colleges.

Hi Dean!

Nice to hear from you. It looks like you have lived in some of my favorite California places. I'm glad you are recovered and back at home. I think The Bible is a very, beautiful book, especially Isaiah, Psalms, and the New Testament. I put your book in my TBR list. I'm afraid I'm about a year behind right now. I'm working with a producer to develop a film adaptation of my book. Will get to it when I can!

Hi Touloo! Nice to meet you. Since you are interested in THE LITTLE PRINCE, I think you might like my book THE IMPROBABLE WONDERS OF MOOJIE LITTLEMAN. It is more complex and realistic than THE LITTLE PRINCE, but reviewers are comparing the two. I have wide reading interests ... those most pertinent to social justice are dystopian novels and critical theory on the nonfiction side .
