Jenne (jennetheinstigator) | 7439 comments Alternates:
Each number corresponds with the spot on the board.
For colors: The cover has to be at least 50%
For locations: As long as the book takes part at all in the given location .
For Shelves: Any book on the given shelf
For Publication Years: I'll be using how GR has it's publication date listed.
For Authors Names: The first, middle, or last name of the author is ok.
For Cover Items: Must have the given item on the cover
For Titles: Only the first word of the title. A, An, And, and The do not count.
So if the letter is B: The Best Day would be ok. Dear Betty would not be ok.

Spot 6 - Series #6
For the Love of Caden by Sandrine Gasq-Dion
For the Love of Caden (Assassin/Shifter, #6) by Sandrine Gasq-Dion

Read: 11/14

Rating: ★★★★★

I’ve always had a soft spot for Kellan and Caden’s story and that certainly doesn’t change on a re-read. It’s interesting coming back to early books in this story, with how many more are written, and knowing who all are going to end up with who. Still I really enjoyed the way that these two came together. This book is sort of the pivot point of everything else that goes forward, were things really leave the door open for the craziness that is to come in later books. Knowing what’s coming I can see a lot of the build up in this story.

Kellan has almost given up hope on ever finding his mate. He’s not quite ready to give up entirely, but watching a number of his friends find their other halves has made him wish for his even more. Still he’s happy in his career with his pack mates. He loves his job as a paramedic and getting to live and work with Scott and Jude makes everything better. Of course a rainy holiday in Seattle always makes for more work for the boys. Called out to a major traffic collision the last thing Kellan expects to find is the one man he wants to call his own.

Caden saw the truck coming up behind their stopped line of cars, but there was nothing he could do to get out of the way. Now his BMW is crunched like an accordion and he’s trapped inside. The adorable medic that shows up to help does take his mind off his pain a little bit, but Caden knows he’s still being a grouchy asshole. He’s determined to make it up to the guy, especially as it’s clear Kellan has no idea who Caden is. There’s just something about Kellan that draws Caden in and he wants to get to know the medic at all costs.

Caden is just wonderful in this story. I loved his grouchy bear grumbles in the beginning when he was in pain. Of course by that point Kellan’s already got the wrong impression that Caden’s straight and thus off limits. As perfect as these two are for each other getting settled into that relationship isn’t smooth sailing. They’re both protecting secrets that only serve to drive them apart.

I always loved the way Caden’s secret came out and how it was handled in the story. It fit the world very well and was really believable. It didn’t push the envelope to hard for me, instead it fitted into the natural order of things nicely. Of course the outcome was always assured, but I appreciated that this wasn’t a given. The danger and risk were real to those involved.

Carson coming back into the story and being the asshole he’s been every time we’ve seen him also fit. He’s got a lot of anger at Caden for what happened in Alaska and is determined to make his life miserable. He was a great foil to upset the happy balance Caden and Kellan had going when they were still keeping secrets from each other.

As I said the beginnings of so many later storylines are started in this book and that’s I think why I particularly enjoy it every time I re-read it. I know how pivotal the information in this book is later on and it’s fun to see the early relationships still being the focus before the world expands into double and triple the characters. ;) So many of my favorites are in this story and it’s fun to revisit them.

This is a simple, fast read, but I still find it enjoyable every time. It’s a crazy world with loads of characters and an ever evolving complex matrix of things going on. It’s a train well worth jumping on and a great break from reality each and every time. ☺

*Nan* (nan4471) | 288 comments Week 1 - A Volatile Range - 3.5 stars

This is the story of Mario, ranch foreman on Wally and Dakota's ranch and Gordon, a troubled ex-marine. We have seen Mario in past books when he had one brief fling and then a longer term relationship. He has been pining for ex-lover David for some time when Gordon appears on the ranch.

The story starts with Gordon acting on incorrect information and attempting to free Wally's animals. Realising he had been misinformed and didn't really want to harm the animals or ranch, Gordon is given a job and place to stay. He also helps to track down the people who recruited him.

The book strongly focuses on Gordon's war experiences and his feeling that he let his friends down. He has little memory of traumatic events and for these reasons fears giving up any control. Wally's helps him face his fears. The physical side of their relationship is passionate and there are some strong, dominant sex scenes. There also plenty of tender moments.

It has been a while since I have read the earlier books in this Series but I still enjoyed it and I am looking forward to book 7 when it is released.

Amy ~Lover of Books~ | 143 comments Spot 6 (Alternate: Tree(s) On Cover)

The Girl from the Well by Rin Chupeco

Finished: November 16th
Rating: 3 stars

Review:
I was drawn to this book's synopsis on GR with it pitched in: "Dexter meets The Ring" I could see why it is that because one of the spirits killed bad people and the other spirit who was evil and possessed a boy. In the end, the evil spirit is exorcized and the other spirit replaces it in the boy to try to prevent anything from happening to him. Overall, I liked this book and will look for any new books by this author in the near future!

Kimberly (whatkreads) Week 1: 6th in a series
Sugar and Iced by Jenn McKinlay
Finished: (11/17/14)
Rated: 3 stars

Book #6 in A Cupcake Bakery Mystery. I always enjoy catching up with this cozy series. McKinlay has such a gift for writing real, believable main characters!!! I love the different levels of friendship scattered throughout this book. The characters joke around and celebrate with one another, but they also fight and are honest with their feelings. That being said, I was a bit put off by the love triangle/rhombus going on between Mel and her suitors. I understand that most cozy authors use a love triangle at some point (or forever) in their series, but this one felt a tad forced and the third wheel totally didn't fit. I'm definitely not happy with how the romace ended for one couple so suddenly at the end, but excited for the other couple who found happiness. The mystery was well written. I'm not a beauty pageant fan, but that setting worked for this book and was a great way to introduce several mean spirited characters. It kept me second guessing my suspect list until the very end where everything finally fell into place. This wasn't my favorite book in the series, but that won't keep me from grabbing the next book.
