Blue | 11 comments I'm not even sure if the thread title is accurate, but whatever. I read this book as a child, likely somewhere between 2004 and 2007, but I think the book was published much earlier- 90's at the earliest I think. I found it in the children's section of my library, to give an idea of the target audience. The story concerned a woman who meets a magical being in her home- I want to call her a fairy but I can't quite remember if that's accurate. I'll refer to her as a fairy out of convenience. The woman befriends the fairy and confides in her, confessing one day that she and her husband are having trouble conceiving a child. Though the fairy is not allowed to meddle in the humans' affairs, she grants her the ability to conceive, and the woman gives birth to a daughter who has a patch of blue hair on her head (or something like that) signifying the fairy's involvement in her birth. When the daughter grows older, she realizes she has magic powers and her greed and hunger for power briefly overtakes her. The climax of the book involves the woman's husband being trapped downstairs in their house as the daughter conjures up a never-ending stream of toys. That's about all I remember.

Sue Elleker | 1055 comments Definitely. The blue hairs give the little girl wishes-one for each hair.
However, the villainess is the Fairy Queen, who controls wasps, and is angry at the fairy who helped the woman conceive.

Blue | 11 comments Wow, sorry for replying so late! I didn’t get any notifications for this thread, or maybe they just got buried under other notifications. Anyway, I’m pretty sure The Fairy Rebel is the right book. I don’t have a copy to confirm, but a lot of the details are similar enough that I’d go with it. Thanks for the help!

Here's the Google Books preview of The Fairy Rebel by Lynne Reid Banks - Ayshe's suggestion:

https://books.google.com/books?id=fsJ... There are different cover images.

Is this your book?

Blue | 11 comments Now I’m convinced that it’s the right book! The inside illustration looks familiar and the writing tone is the same as I remember. Mark this one solved! Thanks, Kris.
