Lia RaeAnn (myhappyending) Who is Tyler?????

message 52: by Kate (new)

Kate | 45 comments Tyler is the jock guy who seems like a jerk, also was Vicki's boyfriend.

message 53: by Lia RaeAnn (new)

Lia RaeAnn (myhappyending) oh....I thought Jermey (Elena's brother) was her boyfriend

message 54: by Kate (new)

Kate | 45 comments Tyler was her boyfriend at first, then she went to Jeremy. I think Tyler's dad is the mayor.

message 55: by Lia RaeAnn (new)

Lia RaeAnn (myhappyending) Oh, I didn't watch the first few episodes.

message 56: by Whitney (new)

Whitney (whitneychakara) | 127 comments If I had have known about the Vampire Diaries series before reading the twilight books i prob would want to read it more I've read the first book in the serires called the Awakening vol.1 it has the cover of the CW charcters which I hate. They really tried to change the main charcter to be more like bella which is boo. I dont want to have Daja vu' so I dont want to spend my money on it. I love Stephine Meyers and her Twilight books but i think it may have ruined VD for me. :(

message 57: by Lia RaeAnn (new)

Lia RaeAnn (myhappyending) I read Twilight first and then read the older set of books of the Vampire Diaries.

message 58: by Kate (new)

Kate | 45 comments Watching the VD show, I keep thinking, hey, this is like Twilight. But last night I started reading Twilight again, and it had such a different feel to it. The plot has a lot of similarities, but it has a different tone to it.

message 59: by Lia RaeAnn (new)

Lia RaeAnn (myhappyending) I know.

message 60: by Tiffany (new)

Tiffany Oldham | 7 comments Well considering I read VD when I was 11 years old which was um...long ago...if it has any resemblance to Twilight...I dont see it. I dont like how the TV show changed Elena. She was blond...very blond...there was alot of time given in the book telling me how blond she was. Now she looks like well I agree Bella...Lord why?

Lisa Jane Smith was one of the few authors writing vampire teen novels when I was actually well a pre-teen before she went loony and dropped off the face of the earth.

Vampire Diaries to me was a little grittier than Twilight for me. I repurchased the books (my 1990s copies had seen better days) and reread them...still same conclusion.

Kate | 45 comments Did changing Elena in the show change how you feel about her? Is she more likable in the book or the show?

message 62: by Lia RaeAnn (new)

Lia RaeAnn (myhappyending) Well, Kate I think that she is more likable in the book. She seems more like a real person, if you know what I mean.

message 63: by Francesca (new)

Francesca (lemondedefrancesca) | 9 comments I've read VD after Twilight and it's the same story and the same male character! I can't believe Stephenie Meyer when she says she never reads a vampire book or just writes her book from her dream.

message 64: by Lia RaeAnn (new)

Lia RaeAnn (myhappyending) I know! It's like she practically copied it!

message 65: by Melodie (new)

Melodie (melodieco) I read the first 4 books a couple of weeks before the show started. They were great for eating up time spent in airports during long layovers. Real mind candy. Book #5, however, was a complete train wreck. It made almost no sense and the writing was all over the place. I will read #6, but only because it's supposed to be Damon's story.

Now the show is my current favorite guilty pleasure! I absolutely love Ian Somerhalder as Damon and Paul Wesley has such a rockin' body he should go shirtless all the time. I'm actually glad the show is so not like the books. It would be pretty boring if it was. I do wish the character Meredith was a part of the show, tho. She was interesting.

message 66: by Melodie (new)

Melodie (melodieco) Heather wrote: "Oh yeah, Mr. Tanner, the history teacher. I'm getting a bit annoyed with the show mispronouncing everyone's name. Maybe its just me though. When I was reading, I pronounced Stefan as Stef-fon and ..."

I was surprised with the way Alaric is pronounced on the show, but as far as Stefan, I've never heard it pronounced any way other than the way it's pronounced on the show. I actually went to grade school with a boy named Stefan and he was a junior since it was his dad's name, too.

message 67: by Andrez (new)

Andrez (andrez-ssi) I like the vampire diaries!!!i dont like bonnie though oh and damon and stefan...*drools*

message 68: by Alicia (new)

Alicia (aliciaftw) I couldn't finish this book. I tried just for lawls, but I couldn't go through with it. My impression was this:

"I'm a pretty girl, ooo, let me look at myself in the mirror. Everybody loves me, all the boys want me. Oh, new guy. He doesn't want me, I have to have him. New toy. Skip five pages, I'm suddenly in love. Ooo, and he has a pretty brother."

Could not do it.
Can anyone confirm or deny my summary? And is the TV series based off it full of substance or did they stay true to the book?

message 69: by Kate (new)

Kate | 45 comments The show is nothing like that. I haven't read the books yet though, so I don't know how different they are.
