Just finished Wait for You (Wait for You, #1) by J. Lynn - a pick from Celeste, and I absolutely LOVED it! Thank's Celeste

Hi Catherine!

No, I haven't read that particular series. When it comes to contemporaries, I lean more toward romantic suspense and paranormal sub-genres. I've heard Sylvia Day is really good though!

message 455: by Breann (new)

Breann | 398 comments I finished two more:

The Trouble With Elves - D'aw! I'm so glad this was our buddy read this month. Perfect holiday reading! Thanks KarenH

Unwrapping Hank - Very cute enemies to friends to lovers story. I really like Eli Easton's holiday romances. Thanks Grace!

this series is good! as much as I loved Fifty....I like this one more....it is more romance-less BDSM/sex...it is more about the relationship :) and now as with the Outlander series...I am impatiently awaiting the next book! :( why can't these authors just write faster! lol

Nice! I used to listen to books at work lol It definitely made work interesting!

Becky ♡The Bookworm♡ (mckennamuse) | 731 comments Catherine wrote: "Why can't these authors just write faster! lol"

No kidding! I'm in serious withdrawal waiting for Patricia Briggs' next Alpha & Omega book! Ack!

I'm probably the only one on the planet who hasn't read 50 Shades. I love the Outlander series though and the way the plot weaves itself across the books. I'm really behind on most of the series as I didn't have time to read while I raised my three boys. Now I'm busy making up for lost time!

Catherine - Finished Keegan's Lady by Catherine Anderson . It was good, but a little intense. The couple had a terrible start to their relationship, so they walked on eggshells around each other for a good part of the book. I enjoyed it, especially the ending, but it wasn't a cozy read. The heroine was a rape victim, so she was dealing with a lot of traumatic memories. The author did a very good job and Caitlin's responses and recovery were very believable. 4 Stars

Aarati - Magic Rises (Kate Daniels, #6) by Ilona Andrews was so good that I'm still floating on Cloud 9! It's my new favorite of the series and went straight to my all time favorite list! 5 Stars

Thanks for the great picks! So far I haven't had a stinker or DNF this round! YAY!

I read it before all the hype...it's actually fairly good story...maybe not that well written, but a good romance all the same :)

Becky ♡The Bookworm♡ (mckennamuse) | 731 comments Dee wrote: "Haven't read and no desire to read 50 shades"

My library carries it, but I don't think I'll ever get to it. I don't mind a steamy adult romance, but the erotica sub-genre scares me. I get board out of my mind if the author writes pages and pages of sex scenes and stalls the plot. I've heard 50 Shades is incredible so I don't think that's the case, but the BDSM is over my comfort zone.

I would agree with you...that the BDSM does make it a bit over the top...but I just looked beyond that...and at the romance of the story...I definitely don't agree with that type of lifestyle...but who am I to judge...

Totally agree with your position. To each his own. We all like and dislike different things, but that's what makes the world go round!

Dee - I'd heard that the story started out as fan fiction. I don't agree with that either, but to be fair I haven't read either version. I can see where that would be a problem if the book is too close to the canon character or setting.

Joyce: - I've finished with Firestorm (Weather Warden, #5) by Rachel Caine . This series is a huge adrenaline rush and I enjoy the sci-fi aspects of it soooo much! The author ended this one in a HUGE cliffhanger and now I'm in a position where I can't just jump into the next book. Drives me bonkers! Argh! Enjoyed the story, it just wasn't finished. 3 Stars due to Cliffhanger Ending

I've read some fabulous books so far! Next up is: Son of the Shadows (Sevenwaters, #2) by Juliet Marillier

Grace - He Ain't Lion: This is a freebie and it's a lot better than I expected! It's only short and is an introduction to the series, but it's HOT, has strong H and h, and a solid story line considering it only 63 pages. Not sure I want to continue with the series, but great to have read it. Thanks Grace!

Teresa - A Gift for Santa: Great little Christmas story of Jack Frost and Nick Claus, both of whom have been circling each other for centuries :) Thanks Teresa!

Poongothai - Line of Scrimmage: I had high hopes for this since I really liked the precis, but it appears that unless they have quirky humour like The Rosie Project, I get bored and they just don't work for me :( Thanks for the rec though Poongothai!

Bonuses

Shelby - Every Move He Makes: It takes a while to warm up to both MCs. The interesting bits get going in the last 100 pages; up until then, I was just strolling through the story. I wasn't invested, but fortunately I didn't have anything else pulling my attention away :) I did enjoy it. Thanks for the rec!

beppy - Better Than Good: Hmmm - I can't say that I really liked either MC (Matt or Aaron). They both had their moments to shine or falter. But I enjoyed the storyline. Will see about continuing the series. Thanks beppy :)

message 491: by ~KarenH~, Moderator (new)

~KarenH~ | 11371 comments Once again I've fallen behind in posting what I've read, and between lots of shorter books and a long power outage that meant plenty of time to read, I've got a lot to report!

LIZZ - Merry Christmas, Baby 12/5/14 - It's sad to see the Lucky Harbor series coming to an end, but what a sweet end it is!

Roger - Love Comes in Darkness 12/7/14 - I didn't like this one quite as much as the first book, but still very good and I'm looking forward to the next book in the series.

Logan - Let It Snow 12/8/14 - Sweet story, just right for the season!

Che-che - Jet 12/9/14 - Another that I didn't like as well as the first in the series, but I still like the characters and will continue the series.

Dana - Reindeer Games 12/10/14 - Cute story, but a little hard to keep the characters straight at first.

Jennifer - Mai Tai'd Up 12/11/14 - Loved it! I don't know if it quite lived up to Wallbanger, but better than the last 2 books in the series.

Sallie - Mistress Christmas 12/11/14 - Another light, sweet holiday story, and I'm a sucker for them!

Courtney - Holiday on Ice 12/13/14 - I love this series, and I'd been looking forward to Trick and Stella's story...it didn't disappoint!

Aarati - Tied 12/14/14 - So good! I'm sad to see the series ending, but it ended with a bang - maybe my favorite book in the series.

Thanks everyone for the great picks!

Kristy - I finished Silent Knife (Celebration Bay, #2) by Shelley Freydont and enjoyed it. Thanks for recommending.

message 494: by Jojo (new)

Jojo | 1010 comments My latest reads for this challenge :

Melissa - Celia's Puppies - 08/12/14 ★ ★ ★ ★ - I love this series - the books don't always seem to flow well when you're reading but evidently it was published a chapter at a time. It feels just like a soap opera when you're reading it and is totally addictive.

Tara Jo - Shame on Me - 09/12/14 ★ ★ ★ ★ - Tara Sivec books are great, light hearted fun reads. This one is about an ex-model turned PI falling for her target.

Kathy - When Day Breaks - 11/12/14 ★ ★ ★. I loved this series when it started and even the last couple of books weren't too bad, but this one was just boring - it went on and on about how pretty she was and how scarred he is, it was really a struggle to finish. I will give the next book a try and hope it improves.

Thanks for the recs.

Courtney (cstarfire26) | 27 comments It's been a crazy couple of days (here comes the holidays!) but I wanted to post a quick update:

Karen H. - Glad you enjoyed it! :)

Emilie - finished Rush (Breathless, #1) by Maya Banks . And Fever (Breathless, #2) by Maya Banks . And Burn (Breathless, #3) by Maya Banks . Because once I started reading Rush, I COULDN'T STOP READING THE SERIES. Absolutely loved it - thanks!

Becca - Finished your bonus pick The Scribe (Irin Chronicles, #1) by Elizabeth Hunter . Really interesting new direction for Elizabeth Hunter to take. I actually really enjoyed it, so much so that I couldn't wait and read the second book in the series The Singer (Irin Chronicles, #2) by Elizabeth Hunter as well! I can't wait for the next book to come out. I still really love her Elemental World series, though. Thanks for the pick!

Catherine - Almost finished with An Echo in the Bone (Outlander, #7) by Diana Gabaldon . I'm hoping to have it done by Christmas.

Right now I'm also in the middle of A Lady of His Own (Bastion Club, #3) by Stephanie Laurens and probably will finish it in the next couple of days, as well as Envy (Fallen Angels, #3) by J.R. Ward .

That's all I have for now - I hope everyone has a Happy Hanukkah/Merry Christmas! I probably won't be able to post again until after Christmas. :)

Dee (austhokie) | 7316 comments Fury - Larissa/Amie/Raine - I've heard about this series for a while so when I saw the first book during an audible sale, I grabbed it. like others have pointed out, very similar to the Breeds series (Lora Leigh), but I like this one better - the world building was more complete early on. Although there was redundancy in places. I gave 3.5, but rounded up to 4. And already bought the second book
