This new-to-me author brings crimes and suspense to a well-written and dramatic crime thriller largely set in Sequoia National Park near Three Rivers, California. Overall, this was well-written, captivating, and thought-provoking. I enjoyed unraveling the mystery along with Harland and Hux. I was hooked immediately in the first chapter and the pages kept turning.

PamG (lynguy1) | 1147 comments Here is my review of Strength Under Fire Strength Under Fire (Silver Creek, #3) by Lindsay McKenna by Lindsay McKenna. It's the third book in the Silver Creek contemporary romantic suspense series. The writing and discussions gave me a strong sense of the Wildflower Ranch and the Silver Creek community. While it is portrayed as very idyllic and somewhat unrealistic, I wanted to believe in it and enjoyed it. It was an entertaining book that was emotionally intense at times. The author did a good job of meshing the romance and the suspense without either suffering.

PamG (lynguy1) | 1147 comments I read a paperback that I purchased 3 or 4 years ago from a used bookstore clearance shelf that has been languishing on my TBR bookshelf. Death by the Light of the Moon Death by the Light of the Moon (Claire Malloy, #7) by Joan Hess by Joan Hess. It's a cozy mystery and the seventh book in the series. I've read one other book in the series. Unfortunately, this one didn't work for me.

PamG (lynguy1) | 1147 comments This is one that I finished reading in August, but couldn't post my review until now. My 4 star review: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...

A Terrible Fall of Angels A Terrible Fall of Angels by Laurell K. Hamilton by Laurell K. Hamilton. This is the first book in the Zaniel Havelock urban fantasy / supernatural suspense / paranormal police procedural series. She builds a new world for readers to marvel and explore. Overall, this book was an entertaining and thought-provoking paranormal police investigation with strong religious and belief overtones. It is definitely a departure from the previous series written by this author in many ways. However, she continues to bring great characters, entertaining and unique story lines, action, and suspense together in her novels.

PamG (lynguy1) | 1147 comments Here is my 5 star review of Dark Night Dark Night (Alaska Wild Mysteries, #3) by Paige Shelton by Paige Shelton.

https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...

This is the third book in the Alaska Wild Mysteries series. It's a well-written mystery novel that combines traditional police detective work and amateur sleuthing. Secrets, murder, and a horrific experience that continues to haunt and traumatize the main character make for a suspenseful and riveting read. The author does a great job of portraying the hardships and lack of amenities as well as the friendships, pace of life, the wonders, and the dangers of living in and around small town Alaska.

PamG (lynguy1) | 1147 comments I finished a book that I won in a GR Giveaway. Tempting The Dragon King Tempting The Dragon King (Dragon Lords, #1) by Kiersten Fay by Kiersten Fay. This is the first book in the Dragon Lords series, but it's set in the same world as the her Shadow Quest series. This meshes a few genres. It's a science fiction paranormal romantic suspense novel. While there's plenty of action and steamy scenes, there are some deeper threads that center around domestic abuse, child abuse, grief, and honor.

PamG (lynguy1) | 1147 comments I can now post my review of Getaway With Murder Getaway With Murder (Mountain Lodge Mystery #1) by Diane Kelly by Diane Kelly. This is the first book in the Mountain Lodge (Cozy) Mystery series. The setting was perfect for this novel and Ms. Kelly does a great job of transporting readers to the mountains of North Carolina. I was immediately drawn into the Misty’s life and enjoyed the unraveling of the mystery and the development of friendships. In both of the books I have read by this author, I had a connection with the writing style that I found relatable, vivid, and irresistible.
