GETTING TO KNOW YOU

<closed thread>What are you currently reading?
I just started Genesis by Bernard Beckett. It actually reminds me of The Hunger Games in a way - YA dystopian novel. I'm curious to see where it goes.
I'm reading The ABC Murders, A New Earth: Awakening to Your Life's Purpose and I'm determined to finish Great Expectations for this challenge.
I'm enjoying some easier books after finishing (yay!) 2666. Good book; just long, dense and tiring. I finished Between, Georgia, which was really enjoyable except for a slow part in the middle. A good summer book.
I'm now reading The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society, which I'm really enjoying, and continuing with Pride and Prejudice.
still reading Tried by War : Abraham Lincoln as Commander in Chief for my Abe Lincoln book, but the end is in sight only 70 pages to go (I've only been reading a chapter a night on it)Water Bound to finish out the Tarot Challenge
The Mulberry Tree for the learn your numbers author
Awakened by a Kiss for the Fairy Tale Challenge (three short stories based on fairy tales)...
the next ones in the pile include Kitty and the Midnight Hour and Corralled for share the summer love and an alternate history book for Ms Anderson's challenge...
I know I won't finish, but its been fun
Just finished "The Book Thief!" I really enjoyed it! I am currently reading "Firefly Lane." So far I am enjoying it at about 75 pages in!
Make sure you have a box of tissues for firefly lane, i was bawling by the end!Julie wrote: "Just finished "The Book Thief!" I really enjoyed it! I am currently reading "Firefly Lane." So far I am enjoying it at about 75 pages in!"
i'm reading The Book Thief for the group read; Corralled and Kitty and the Midnight Hour for the two favorite genres; Awakened by a Kiss for the fairy tales and started The War That Came Early for the alternative history...trying to finish up a couple of the larger point ones that I started and never completed before the end...hoping to get The Story of Edgar Sawtelle listened to (I started it and then stopped it last month, so want to try to finish it); Chocolate Chip Cookie Murder for the block party and Between Sisters for the July Birthday/Noun challenge...fingers crossed!
I finished Wind in the Willows and it was really good. I tried to watch the Disney movie after, and it was so dumb. Books are just better (usually.) :-) Now I'm reading Freezer Burn- a mystery-- and it's fast moving and fuuny.
I'm reading Cold Mountain & am really loving it! I've put it off for such a long time, so I'm glad this challenge pushed me to read it.I still need to read Book of a Thousand Days, Unwind, Mockingjay, Lone Survivor, & The Pioneer Woman Cooks: Recipes from an Accidental Ranch Wife.
I'm giving A House for Mr. Biswas a shot, and I'm also reading one of my comfort books The Mummy Case on the side!
I am trying to finish The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, Dracula and Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone for the Tarot task. I am at about page 150 in all of them. I was just reading Harry Potter as a side book. Then yesterday someone asked me to be their friend and it was on the TBR list so figured I should tuck it in.
I just got my free giveaway book - Mentor I am excited to read it, but I don't think it fits into any of my unfinished tasks. Oh well...I'm going to read it now anyway!
I'm reading A New Earth: Awakening to Your Life's Purpose for the Ode to IL, Great Expectations for the classic novel and The Bourne Identity for the tarot task.
I've just finished Mary: Mrs. A. Lincoln which I enjoyed, though the last 200 pages or so made me pretty angry. I'm still reading The Prestige, which is lagging a bit for me, and Peppermint Twisted. I'm also about to start PopCo and I'm listening to Stephen Fry read Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone - I love it.
Kandie wrote: "I've just finished Mary: Mrs. A. Lincoln which I enjoyed, though the last 200 pages or so made me pretty angry. I thought that Mary was a great book. I know what you mean about being angry Kandie. Between son Robert Lincoln and friend and confidant Mrs. Keckly, Mary Lincoln got a pretty raw deal.
Finished Crisis and Fireflies in December. Started Beowulf on the Beach: What to Love and What to Skip in Literature's 50 Greatest Hits and Swine Not?.

I really loved it but I wanted to throw it across the room at times! I couldn't believe it when her friend wrote that book and her son was so horrible :/ But it was a really great book.
I am reading Heart Of Stone and Pawleys Island. I am putting off a lot of books I really want to read until the next challenge. I will probably start The Passage or maybe Under the Dome next week, since it will take me a while to get halfway through them.
I will finish A New Earth: Awakening to Your Life's Purpose and The Magician's Nephew for the challenge. Possibly The Last Oracle as well.
Since I joined the at the end of the summer challenge and awaiting the fall challege I'm pacing myself on the book I started last Thursday Wuthering Heights I fit it into one of the fall challeges so I've marked my spot where I have to stop according to the rules to count for September. So to help me pace I'm also reading Just After Sunset since I'm reading this for the short story challege. It is frustrating however as I want to tear through Wuthering Heights and could have read it all weekend and be almost done but I want it to count so I'm impatiently awaiting Wednesday.
i figured that since the Summer challenge ends in a couple of days, i'm not going to rush and try to squeeze any challenge books in, because that takes the fun out of reading..so i'm just catching up on some of my fun romance reading, some short stories here and there that i have picked up
I just finished my last book for this challenge and am taking a break, I think, from reading for the next couple of days. I've got some catching up to do around the house and some letters to write. I may start Peace Like a River during my lunch break tomorrow (I have today off)....or not. I'm not sure. Amanda, I think the new Rules state that you can only pre-start 1 book for the next challenge.
Petra,Seriously? Oh well I've only read the first short story in that book. I'm leaving Wuthering Heights at work today so I won't be tempted to read it tonight cuz I think the last of the pages I have until the cut off is just enough for tomorrow's lunch time reading.
I'm almost done reading My Name is Mary Sutter - only 30 pages left, will finish those off tonight. It's fantastic, I'm so glad I found it during this challenge.I'm also listening to audio book The Blue Notebook, which I do not like at all. The writing is well done, just dislike the story. I've got about 2 hours left to listen to, but since my commute is an hour each way, I'll have it done by the time I get to work tomorrow morning.

Wuthering Heights is on my "Shipwrecked" list. I haven't found my second book for that task but have been wanting to read Wuthering Heights for 3 Challenges now and never gotten to that task.....wonder if this will be the lucky time?
I loved Mary Sutter...i've rec'd that as a debut novel for Leigh's threadChristine US wrote: "I'm almost done reading My Name is Mary Sutter - only 30 pages left, will finish those off tonight. It's fantastic, I'm so glad I found it during this challenge.

If I was shipwreaked with wuthering heights, i might kill myself ;) hatred cannot describe my feelings for that book
Delicious Dee the book slut wrote: "If I was shipwreaked with wuthering heights, i might kill myself ;) hatred cannot describe my feelings for that book"One of the things that makes this book interesting for me is that people seem to love it or hate it. It's quite a polarizing book, it seems.
It should be an interesting experience, I think. We'll see, I guess.

So far its ok, I wouldn't say I hate it and its too soon to say if I'll love it or not, will keep you posted but I definately hope you get to read it for this challenge.
I'm reading The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet's Nest for 15.3 and Murder Uncorked which will fit in about 4 different places.
I started with a quick, fun read and am reading Next by Michael Crichton for the Circle of Life task. Michael Cricton died in November, 2008. So far, I'm enjoying it. All about gene manipulation and the results of such tampering.
Finished The White Queen. I am reading My Name is Mary Sutter and listening to 92 Pacific Boulevard.
I finished A Lady of Persuasion for the 'smile' part of #30.7, and am now reading The Secret Life of Bees, altho I don't yet know where/if it will fit - still working on my book list.
I am currently reading
and
and am waiting for the other tasks before I post anything. Because I keep moving everything around still in order to fit different books.
i'm reading Winter Rose by Patricia A. McKillip. it's really good so far... very descriptive, with beautiful imagery.
I'm reading Lone Survivor: The Eyewitness Account of Operation Redwing and the Lost Heroes of SEAL Team 10.
I just finished up Cut & Run for the baseball challenge; also working on What Looks Like Crazy for the pink cover and Strawberries for Dessert for the short book (daylight savings task) and listening to Sense and Sensibility for part A in the smile task (book published before I was born) and working on my anthology (Double the Heat)
I had to leave all my books at home, so I started new ones.Proteins, Enzymes, Genes: The Interplay of Chemistry and Biology, Analysis of Pesticides in Food and Environmental Samples, Persians/Seven against Thebes/Suppliants/Prometheus Bound, The Golden Days
Just finished my first task for the Fall Challenge. It was an excellent urban fantasy bookRed-Headed Stepchild by Jaye Wells

Now reading Mary, Bloody Mary which I should be finishing in the next hour or so. Have lined up Winnie the Pooh to read next. That will cover a couple of challenges!
I just finished To Kill a Mockingbird for the One Hit Wonder task. I've never read it before this and I ended up loving it to bits and pieces. Now I'm going to start The City of Ember for the City Lights task.
