GETTING TO KNOW YOU

<closed thread>What are you currently reading?
I finished The Short Second Life of Bree Tanner: An Eclipse Novella last night, nice and short for 5.2 I'm now reading J is for Judgment for 5.7, plus Emma for 20.8
Hot Six!! Great book..Great series! The new one is coming on 6/22/10! Whoo hoo!!! Mansfield Park is really good, too.
I've just joined the group and I'm going to start The Glass Castle for the first part of 15.1, it's new and borrowed!
I've just started Demon Thief at work and I'm a few chapters in already! I know they're kind of young, but I loved the first one. :P I don't actually know if it fits into a challenge though, hehe. Forgot to check.
I'm reading Killing Floor by Lee Child for the must read list task. At first I was thinking I was crazy for thinking of this as a must read because the first 50 pages were not doing anything for me. I had heard such good things about the "Jack Reacher books" from someone I trust for good reads in a wide spectrum of genres so that was my reasoning behind picking it for this task. She was right by 100 pages I am now hooked.
Finished Tess of the D'Urbervilles for 20.3. I started Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter which I got from the library and is a 7 day book so had to start it right away. I didn't think that I would like it but I am enjoying it. It is a quick read. I am also still reading Rose's Garden which I am having a problem getting into. Good thing it is on the shorter side.
I am currently reading The Wolven Moon. It is my husband's first published book. He wouldn't let me read it until it was printed. So far it is great. If you like horror you should check it out!
Stephanie, how are you liking Tess of the D'Urbervilles? I had seen the movie before I tried the book; I'm glad I did. It helped me to picture what was happening as I read it, otherwise I might have found it a bit dry. Sad, but dry.

I always have multiple books going at once...something to do with book ADD...currently:Case Histories: A Novel by Kate Atkinson for 5.5
All Jacked Up by Lorelei James for 5.10
Just One Of The Guys by Kristan Higgins for 15.9
Lucca by Jens Christian Grøndahl (originally translated from Danish) for 25.3
Persuasion by Jane Austen (audiobook) for 20.8
The Silver Pigs by Lindsey Davis (audiobook) for 20.2
Delicious Dee, that's quite a list! I can't have more than 3 books going (and one of those has to be an audio), otherwise I start feeling under stress and reading isn't much fun anymore. At the moment, I'm reading:
Doctor Margaret's Sea Chest, which is turning out to be quite good. A bit melodramatic but a good story with a few good twists already (I'm only about 100 pages into it).
The Surgeon (the serial killer mystery is interesting and intense but some of the stereotypical portayals of the characters is annoying). I'm listening to this one on audio.
I am currently reading my first book by Canadian author Lori Lansens. It is called Rush Home Road: A Novel and was recommended to me by a friend. I am reading it for Task 15.9 because the title of book describes my love to be at home. Whenever I am gone, I always Rush Home.
I just have a really short attention span sometimes...so I start multiple books, then i'll get cuaght up in one and finish it...or i'll bounce back and forth...lol!Petra wrote: "Delicious Dee, that's quite a list! I already posted this book and a few others have said that it was not Hardy's best work. I will give him one more try if I don't like the second book I will not read anything else by him.
Finished Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter. I really enjoyed it. I am going to finish Rose's Garden hopefully tonight and then on to In the Presence of Mine Enemies.
Currently reading The Namesake for 25.5 (my favorite genre is modern fiction). Next 25.5 book will be The Sunne in Splendour, because my second favorite genre is historical fiction.
I'm reading Atonement for 20.9, A Wrinkle in Time for 30.2 and Mansfield Park (pdf at work while I'm bored!) for 20.8.
Sue, have you seen the movie based on this book (same name)? I just checked it out from the library and enjoyed it.
Cait wrote: "Finished Tethered, now on to The ABC Murders."How did you like Tethered? It sounds really good.

It was pretty good; I ended up giving it 3 stars. The writing was great and the story intriguing (I read it in one sitting), but the end was a bit of a let down. I think that comes down to a matter of personal taste though, and I would still recommend it to others.
I'm readingTender Is the Night which is very good, but would probably be better in the evening with a glass of beaujolais. It bugs me though that this is the fifth book I've read this month where a beautiful woman walks like a dancer. Has anyone read a book where a beautiful woman walked like a soccer player, black belt karate expert, tae kwan do artist, gymnast, athlete ... anything except a dancer??
I just finished Red Land, Black Land by Barbara Merz for task 10.9. She is the author of the Amelia Peabody mysteries under Elizabeth Peters. I loved it! I learned so much. I recently finished reading the 19th book in her series for task 25.3 for a country I've always wanted to visit (Egypt of course!). For the second part, I am about to crack open Jules Verne's Around the World In 80 Days.

I just started Confessions of a Shopaholic, and I'm hoping that I'll be able to find a place for it in the challenge. I don't have a lot of time to read lately but I've heard this is a quick one!
Jessy - congrats to your husband - is he going to put a description of his book or anything up - I just took a look at the page, and that would def. help me decide...I don't want to enter the giveaway, maybe win to find out its not a genre I read...Jessy wrote: "Liz wrote: "Jessy wrote: "I am currently reading The Wolven Moon. He has also posted a brief synopsis.
I should be able to finish The Case of the Missing Servant today. It's a fun mystery with some memorable characters. I'm enjoying it.I'm also listening to Shanghai Girls on my commute to/from work. I've just started and I'm enjoying the descriptive scenes of Shanghai and its food.

Yeah, me too! It seems ridiculous it took me so long to get to the book. I am very glad I have finally read in now though.
Right now I am reading Three Cups of Tea: One Man's Mission to Promote Peace... One School at a Time and, I know I will likely upset a lot of people BUT, holy bad writing Batman!
