Amanda (amanda_p) One of my students is looking for "the only book I ever liked". He read it around the year 2014, so published then or earlier. He thought it might have been called Flashpoint, but I've looked & cannot find it, so I think he's probably wrong. In the novel, "the guy" is killed in a car crash. After the crash, he moves through time differently than the living people, so he can see what's going to happen before it happens to them. SPOILER (maybe)

He sees his uncle rape his sister. (Not 100% sure about the sister part, but a younger girl, close to the protagonist.)

My student doesn't have many more details. There is someone else with the dead character - a guide maybe? - but that's about it.

THANKS in advance.
Amanda

Rant by Chuck Palahniuk? Some Goodreads reviewers mention "Rant joins a disenfranchised part of society forced by law to stay in their homes during the day and who get their kicks by crashing cars into each other. After his spectacular fiery death..." and "He wouldn't mind ceasing to exist if he could prevent his mother from being raped."

Amanda, how old is the boy? Is he like a ghost (e.g., cannot move physical objects, people can't see or hear him)?

Does he time travel to before he was born or to the distant future?

Who/what caused the car crash?

Amanda (amanda_p) Thanks - he says this isn't quite it. Here's more information: The boy is a ghost (after the car crash). We think he's already dead when the book starts or maybe he dies right at the beginning. He switches from the dead side to the living side, and time works differently in the two places. So if he's two days on the dead side, it's like two weeks on the living side.
Not quite sure about the car crash. Maybe two cars crashing into each other; maybe he flipped it in a drag race.
Am going to check out Rant anyway & see if my student likes it.

Amanda (amanda_p) THIS IS IT! Jesse, I wish you could have seen this kid's face today when I showed him the cover of the novel and the description. He is actually excited about reading a book. Now all I have to do is buy it.

THANK YOU!
