Sophie, it looks like tarot was seconded already, so feel free to suggest or second something else!
A book recommended by an influential person or group (e.g. celebrity/public figure, YouTuber/Blogger, family member/friend, library, etc.)
Influential can be based on the individual member’s definition and what’s considered influential to them.

I'll second this! A good way to an author prompt on there.

I'm considering a guilty pleasure to be something (movie, television show, food, book or music genre, etc) that you enjoy despite being slightly embarrassed about it.

E.G. A book related to Christmas. It doesn't necessarily have to be a Christmas book per se, but it could be set around the Christmas period, or have a few chapters that include the Christmas period. Works for any traditional holiday!
Edit: Slightly changed my suggestion!

If you would be willing to expand this to include any holiday (as in "a book related to a traditional holiday") I'd second it!

I am thinking that this can be fiction or non-fiction, any genre, main or side-character. The pregnancy can be "real" or paranormal/alien or even a fake pregnancy. Here are some links:
Barnes and Noble pregnancy/birth fiction

Adult pregnancy fiction

Historical romance
Sci-fi pregnancy
Paranormal Pregnancy

I can't second this but I hope someone does! The Fireman immediately sprang to mind and I loved the pregnant main character in that.

I only picked Christmas because that's my all time favourite holiday, but that is a good idea! I've edited my suggestion post to include any traditional holiday

Thanks for being willing to broaden the prompt Alexx. I think (hope!) that will make it more appealing to more people!

This is a fun list that is chosen by middle school students in Texas. So not hard reads but something, as adults, we wouldn't necessarily pick.
Description of program: Each year, 20 books are chosen for the Texas Bluebonnet Award Master List. Schools and libraries around the state participate in the program, encouraging students to read a minimum of five books from the list. In January, students vote for their favorite title.

Would you care to elaborate more on this prompt?

An atmospheric book is a book in which the setting really comes alive and gives you a sensory experience. It could be a book that feels really spooky, it could be a book set during the winter that could make you feel the coldness even while reading it during the summer. It’s basically a book that does a really good job of transporting you to the setting and making you experience “the atmosphere” of it.

Thanks, Michelle. That is a great definition and a fantastic prompt. I was browsing the listopia and had read several at the top. It will be a definite upvote for me.

Thanks for updating, dalex!

Ann, you can always suggest something with some examples (like you gave with Avi and Shakespeare), and other people can find suggestions and examples... you don't have to make a list of them in order to suggest!
Nadine, according to Encyclopedia.com, "domestic fiction" is a term used to describe a body of popular narrative literature written by, for, and about women that flourished during the mid-nineteenth century.
From the same article: "These women writers, including Susan Warner (1819–1885), Fanny Fern (pseudonym of Sara Parton; 1811–1872), Harriet Beecher Stowe (1811–1896), Maria Susanna Cummins (1827–1866), E. D. E. N. Southworth (1819–1899), and Elizabeth Stuart Phelps (1844–1911), widely known practitioners of the genre, treated the so-called woman's sphere—the home—with gravity and even realism."

I'm not sure if this is what Charlotte meant when she suggested it, but that's what Google turned up!

Avery, I honestly think that would work. In the definition, it says popular narrative literature written by, for, and about women that happened to flourish in the 19th century, but I think your options would also fit that definition.

The list of topics, sorted by type, may be found in message 2 of the Introduction & Announcements post: https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...
A little reminder of how things are done around here:
How it works:
- The topics for the 2020 reading challenge list will be determined by a series of mini-polls, the number of which depends on the number of prompts winning in each mini-polls
- Suggestions for each poll will be opened until 15-20 suggestions are received and “seconded” (this number can change, which will be announced in each suggestion topic)
- We'll wait for one day between the end of the suggestions and the start of the poll to allow for research and discussions
- The poll will be opened for voting for one week
- Each user has 8 votes to spread between their favorite (top) and least favorite (bottom) prompts
- The prompts with the more "positive" votes (top - bottom) will be added to the final list (between 2 and 5 depending on how the votes are spread)
Rules:
- Each member can only suggest OR second one prompt
- Suggestions close after 15 total seconded prompts
- If the categories are not balanced enough at some point, the mods will add rules to encourage variety
- Multi-week prompts may be suggested
- For now, we won't limit polls to new suggestion only, but that can be considered in the future
- For now, members who have suggested or seconded a prompt don't need to wait for 24 hours before doing so again in the next poll. That may change in the future if members express a need for this rule to be reinstated
As always, please express any and all feedback (respectfully, of course), either here or in The Wild Discussion
