I agree that District 9 is a love/hate movie. I can see why some would not enjoy it, but I felt it was the best SF film so far this year and that the special effects were amazing. That being said, I agree Vanity Faire was a bit boring and 1000 Corpses was pretty bad.
I loved House of 1000 Corpses. But I'm a huge horror fan. I'm not sure if I want to see D9. I like sci-fi movies but the previews are not doing it for me. I watched some of Vanity Faire a few months ago and got bored with it too.

I know some people who enjoyed House of 1000 corpses, but it grossed me out AND bored me. LOL Rare combination...

"What Doesn't Kill You". Should have loved it - Ethan Hawke and Mark Ruffalo star in it. I could not getting emotionally attached to the characters. Might be a personal problem, but that is my complaint. Has anyone else seen it?
William wrote: "Does anyone know if (500) Days of Summer is a worthwhile movie to see? I do really like musicals"I really liked 500 Days Of Summer, it's not really a musical, it just has one musical number, which is pretty funny. It's also not really a comedy-there is drama and romance along with the comedy elements. It unfolds in a weird way, sort of like Memento. It jumps from one point in their relationship to another.

So I'm either going to love this movie or be deeply confused. My friend said it is more of a guys movie so it made me interested. Thank you for taking time to tell me what you thought about the flick. It will definitely help me in deciding if I go to see it or not. Most likely I'll go see it.
I tend to like slasher/horror/buckets of blood type flicks, but I found Hostel boring. it's hard to put my finger exactly on why, but I think it's likely to do with the victim characters not being at all interesting, sympathetic, or compelling. If you care about the victims, the horror is more horrible.
Hostel was actually better than I had expected it to be. I prefer suspense in horror films but this movie kept me entertained. Before seeing it, I had expected it would be pretty cheesy and it wasn't so right there it had already surpassed my expectation.

I saw it. It was EXTREMELY depressing, but there were a few interesting aspects to it... I rated it a high C or a low B

I was very disappointed in the ending and so was the hubby. We kept seeing all of the trailers and thought it might be a good sci-fi film, but we were fairly disappointed. It wasn't horrible, but seeing in theater was a waste of money. People should wait for it to be on video or at a cheap theater...

William wrote: "Does anyone know if (500) Days of Summer is a worthwhile movie to see? I do really like musicals"It's a cute movie. Really quirky. Not a musical though.
District 9... I kinda liked it. It was confusing but I liked it.
one from Clive Barker really grossed me out. it came out a few yrs ago. I'm usually into horror, but Lord of Illusions was over the top!
Inception was grossly overrated.I recently saw Never Let Me Go and that was underwhelming. (view spoiler)
Hot Tub Time Machine. It's a spoof of an 80's movie with John Cusak, how could that be bad?Oh it was, it really really was!
I thought The Social Network was so overrated. I mean, it was a good movie but I wasn't foaming at the mouth "OMG it's so good" over it.
i didn't like The Social Network. All my friends were all over how the movie was great. Saw it & wasn't that impressed.

Oh that's too bad Keryl, it sounded kind of funny.

I saw the "House of 1,000 corpses" when it first came out. I went with friends and wanted to leave to get my money back, but they were my ride and wanted to finish the movie. I was bored and grossed out throughout the entire movie. I wouldn't watch it again, even if someone paid me to do it. Blah!

I just saw "Thor". Go see it if you're a big Marvel fan and are looking foward to The Avengers movie (extra scene at the end!). But as far as movies go, it definitely wasn't the best and was a let down.
^ I enjoyed "Thor". And that's big for me because I don't expect much from superhero movies and still a lot of them disappoint. The Thor actor could actually act... unlike that Avatar guy. But yeah, it wasn't anything special.

I really enjoyed Thor...of course I may be bias because 1) I really enjoy Marvel and 2) I really enjoy Norse mythology. I mean it definitely wasn't on Iron Man level but I thought it was still pretty good.
I really liked Inception... Social Network didn't do anything for me, and I hated Hanna... It looked like it would be a good movie, and the ending really sucked. I think it could have been so much better! I also really liked Thor, but I love the Marvel characters & looking forward to the new Avengers movie :)
Michelle wrote: "I really enjoyed Thor...of course I may be bias because 1) I really enjoy Marvel and 2) I really enjoy Norse mythology. If you're just an ordinary movie-goer (like, I saw it for Marvel, my parents saw it for just being a movie), you probably won't be blown away. I was expecting it to be amazing; it wasn't the story of it all, or even the effects or acting. It just moved too fast. Like, a day and a half passed between him shooting down from space and his falling in love with Jane. Much too quick! And at the end, I was still kind of waiting for the plot to start, even though I knew it was already kind of going.
Yes I definitely see what you are talking about, I did feel that the plot went a bit too fast. And I can say that I didn't like the ending or the bit after the credits. Cliff hangers are horrible inventions and it's going to drive me nuts.
It took me like, an hour to remember Nick Fury's name, hahhaa. But at the end, what I thought would just be another pointer at Avengers, was actually a...pointer to a sequel to Thor?! Uhhhh. It had SO much potential, but was just too quick for me.
i hated the modern Romeo and Juliet! ugh, update the language if the scenes are modern. this ticked me off!
Sonya wrote: "i hated the modern Romeo and Juliet! ugh, update the language if the scenes are modern. this ticked me off!"Agreed! It was cool but then it was really annoying at the same time. "Look at my long sword!" *pulls out a gun with 'long sword' etched in the side*
stormhawk wrote: "Inception was grossly overrated."I agree. I fell asleep the first time I attempted to watch it. lol.
Sonya wrote: "i hated the modern Romeo and Juliet! ugh, update the language if the scenes are modern. this ticked me off!"Me too! In theatre class, we were asked to compare R+J film to a French stage musical production. Most of the class gave a negative score to the film, except those Leo DiCaprio fangirls lol.
I probably won't see Inception again either.
No interest on Social Network. None whatsoever.
SOurce Code Pirates of the Caribbean:- On stranger Tides
SOurce Code:- I love Sci Fi, but this movie felt like it was trying to be too smart. Ended up walking out of it.....
POTC:-OST:- Jack Sparrow/Johnny Depp. Should have been amazing, instead I felt like the writers had said "What didn't we feature in the last 3 films? Ok, lets put that in and have something that vagually resembles a plot line. Ooh and lets have Penelopy Cruiz for the guys." Never have i been so bored!!!!
nada wrote: "really? i was looking forward to watching it."Do watch it ! Then, judge wheter it's worth watching or not (:
nada wrote: "i didn't finish Inception. i got a headache from watching the first half of it."I feel your pain. I did sit through it and I'm glad I did cause the second half is actually pretty good. The first half, though... The entire time I was sitting there wondering why that movie got so much hype, lol. Once they actually started going into dreams, though, it got interesting.
I like technical stuff, so I really enjoyed Inception. The hype over the characters was a little much; not like there was much backstory for Arthur, even if he was played by Joseph G-L. I really like the new Pirates. Coming from the girl who HATED/DETESTED the second and third movies. But I was preoccupied with the missionary guy and the mermaid, because I really like sweet love stories, hahahah.
Inception is fun if you like figuring things out before it's revealed. And it leaves to keep figuring, even after it's over. It makes you THINK and that's why I liked it so much; they didn't give you the answer and have you leave. I even spent time on figuring out if the end was really a dream or not.

List the movies you REALLY disliked!
Not in this order...
1. District 9
2. Vanity Faire
3. House of a 1000 Corpses
I'll add more later...LOL
