Agree. I saw Never Let Me Go too a couple of months ago and, although I did like the idea and the setting, I found it quite...not what I thought. I usually like dramas but this...I couldn't connect with the characters enough to really care, actually.

D.D. Chant (DDChant) | 125 comments I liked Inception but yes I'll need a few years to pass before I would watch it again! District 9 was clever I thought but didn't need the gross stuff; the premise was interesting enough without it. And maybe enough time has passed for me to be able to say that I hate, hate, hated Titanic! First off the sinking of the Titanic was a terrible disaster, not a back drop for Leo Decaprio and Kate Winslet to make sheep’s eyes at each other! And second, the hero was as pretty as the heroine! And I didn't really like either of them.

I havea very big dislike of Titanic for a different yet similar reason! Remember the part where Leo introduces Kate to his free world by showing off drawings he made about the prostitutes he met in Paris? And this is one of the biggest films of all time? I left after 20 minutes! I felt just awful!

message 57: by Cary (new)

Cary (vortigern) | 344 comments Prostitutes are an interesting underground group. Generally they are very colorful people. I have lived with prostitutes, and dancers before. There are all different types of them. I don't understand your intense dislike of Leo showing his drawings of street people to Kate. Not all prostitutes work the street. But most do and they range widely in personality. I did not like Titanic because I thought the whole plot was bad. Hey this is a book club isn't it. LOL.

D.D. Chant (DDChant) | 125 comments I agree that it wasn't a very good chat up line, Edward. I watched it at home and left the room several times, trouble was it was so long when I came back it was still on!!!! Another thing, why didn't she take it in turns with him to float on the driftwood? Couldn't have liked him all that much could she?!?!?!

message 59: by Cary (new)

Cary (vortigern) | 344 comments Yeah it was to long. The part about Kates boy friend chaining Leo to the jail was just stupid. Except for a few scenes it was poorly written like I said before. They were counting on people to be astounded by the special effects. I trend very much depended on by film makers these days. Well we will so astound them with the spectacular effects. They won't miss the thin or non existant plot. OK back to books. : )

Valerie | 266 comments I finally just watched the George Clooney movie, The American.... I am SO GLAD that I didn't pay to see it in the theater!! Ugh!! Of course, he's nice to look at.... but the movie was B-O-R-I-N-G!!!!! Very little dialogue, which I can get over... and the plot was very predictable. I kept thinking "it's going to pick up & get better", but it never did! Don't waste your time with this one...

Cary (vortigern) | 344 comments This is supposed to be a book club but I ghottah say something about The American. I don't pay to see any movies. But I saw The American twice on DirectTV. It is great. It's about an older hit man who is being betrayed & set up. He has an afair with a really cute Italian prostitute, and after a few action packed secenes he gets himself shot. Just before he is going to run off with the prostitute and a ton of cash. He has decided to settle down with a good looking girl and chill. But he is mortaly shot and meets her at the rendevous and leaves her the cash. The only hoaky thing about it. Is the amount of bodies that pile up in this little Italian town, and the police don't snag the obvious suspect. The strange American who just blew into town. Clooney offs about three hit men who are after him and one inocent guy on a scooter gets shot in the cross fire. The Italian police would have been all over Clooney. But they seem to be oblivious of the presence of a strange American in their little town. That is the only part of the show that was unbelievable. It was far from boring. It had great violence, sex, pot. Ok it had some not so believable parts. But what movie doesn't. I watched a 2009 or so Austrailian version of H.G. Wells Time Macine that was killer. Peace, Cary

Michele | 3 comments I thought Skyline was incredibly bad. It was such a waste of time. Also, The Mothman Prophecies. My mother and I decided to watch this for some reason, and we were bored to tears by the end. We kept debating whether or not we should keep watching it. We still make fun of it to this day.

Parvathy | 12 comments I hated Cowboys Vs Aliens. May be I expected too much. It was a boring let down.

message 72: by Cary (new)

Cary (vortigern) | 344 comments I just saw John Carter of Mars taken from the first book by ERB A Princess of Mars. It's a great movie I think. Allot of people think it is a Starwars Cowboys & Aliens Rip off. However being written in 1911 it predates both these books by years. It is just an interesting Romantic Fantasy Adventure. Very minimal violence. Another reason I think for it's poor reception. Like Dune you really need to read the book before seeing the movie. So you understand what is going on.

Keryl Raist (kerylraist) | 66 comments Okay, just saw the newest incarnation of Conan. Now, let me start out here by saying, I wasn't expecting all that much, and my husband tells me that if you liked the stories Conan was based on this should be right up your alley, but it was just killing me.

Bad, flat dialog. The worst pre-sex scene dialog I've seen in a long, long time. Action scenes where the victims explode in gouts of gore like water balloons filled with high pressure blood.

And the thing that really got me, is scene after scene where all 200+ pounds of Conan run around over rickety wooden scaffolds and bridges, bounding and leaping about. Then his 90 pound female love interest goes running about as well, and she's constantly crashing through (resulting in the need to be rescued) the same bridges and scaffolding that just supported him.

Urgh!

message 75: by Cary (new)

Cary (vortigern) | 344 comments I liked some of the Conan books. In the original Conan with Arnold Swartsneger. His dialogue amounted to only a few lines. As a matter of fact his love interest Sandal Bergman had twice as much dialog as Arnold, LOL. Sandal also won best new break out actress that year for her role in Conan. I just love that sword & sorcery stuff. I did not see Jason Mamosa's new version of Conan. I don't go to the movies much. I went to John Carter because I read every one of the John Carter books. It leaves allot of stuff out. John Carter is immortal in the books. The Therns are a Martian religeous sect. Not a bunch of aliens that go around pillaging other worlds. I do want to see The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo real bad.I like odd ball punky chic's like the girl portrayed in the trailers. Maybe Hunger Games as well. This weekend I will flip a coin, and see one or the other. I love that TV show Once Upon a Time.

Luce (luce87) I have a few to add to this, I work in a shop that sells films and constantly become the victim of " the box and the blurb look awesome"
1. Hatchet - billed as the best hack & slash in years.... Terrible film!
2. Last house on the left - wes craven should not be a reason for you to watch this, it's truly awful.
3. Tin man - tv series. If you love the wizard of oz, just dont!!!
4. Necromentia - gory and horrible in a disturbing uncomfortable way.

And this is just the beginning of terrible-ness.

Not all negative tho, I recently watched blood diamond and found it highly interesting & very moving.

Have a good day peoples!

Huh. I watched Tin Man. Why would they hack the Wizard of Oz up like that? It's like what they did with Pride and Prejudice, when they made that mini-series Lost in Austen. Just...why?

I really liked Lost in Austen, right up to the point where the heroine ended up in the book

message 81: by Fauuzzie (new)

Fauuzzie (faize) Yeah, I guess that'd be right when things started going downhill. I nearly turned it off when they showed Elizabeth Bennett with hacked-off hair, a leather jacket, and skinny jeans!

Cary (vortigern) | 344 comments I am not into slasher fright films. Vampires is what I like straight up. Not were wolves, or witches. Straight up vampires. Any decent vampire is a witch as well anyway. Dracula was a Necromancer. I don't like Freddie Kruger films, Texas Chainsaw, Halloween or any of that crap. Besides this is a book club. So I only talk about movies made from outstanding books.

It's graphic for the sake of being graphic. Disturbing to watch... can't believe people actually rate that falsely advertised, drawn out, not one for the faint hearted movie... and thats coming from a true horror fan.

message 88: by Mawgojzeta (new)

Mawgojzeta I just saw "Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close". I was certain I would like it. The director has worked on several great movies, Tom Hanks and Sandra Bullock are in the film, and the story sounded so interesting. There are issues with the movie throughout, but one really stands out as a movie-killer for me. In fact, it was insulting to viewers.

message 89: by Nicky (new)

Nicky (raggamuffin) | 93 comments I have a few in the movies that are so bad it's funny category.
They are only good when watched amongst friends and mocked repeatedly:

Top of the list
* Jeepers Creepers: only the first, the second is not even funny anymore. "Let's go back to investigate" -facepalm moments taken to the max!

* The Mist: I didn't care for it at all

Others that I just didn't care for and weren't even funny:

*Captain Corelli's Mandolin: I like the setting, but that movie is plain boring

*Battle Royale 2: *snore*

*Don't be afraid of the dark: Usually I like Guillermo Del Toro's 'darker' movies... this one was rather ....meh

I'm sure there's more...

T. Browder (tjosephbrowder) | 10 comments 1.) Hunger Games - Horrible. I guess I just expected more from a bestselling novel. The cast seemed to have their minds on something else while filming and the plotting seemed off to me. It was as if someone thought "Let's take Stephen King's 'The Running Man' and re-write it for the YA market." Maybe I'm just too old.

2.) Snow White and the Huntsman - BLAH! I don't know why but I keep thinking Kriten Stewart will one day develop some depth as an actress. I guess I'm too optimistic. I find her to be the female equivalent of Keanu Reeves (even though he hit the mark with 'The Matrix' films) in terms of being a weak performing, emotionless, just there for a paycheck actor. The film had great visuals and stunning special effects, but Kristen Stewart's lack of performance blew it for me.

3.) Suckerpunch - What the heck was that?!? The film is a mishmash of music videos, one having little to do with the others. The plot is so convoluted as to be completely senseless. The music, though...AWESOME!
