I still disagree about the book being a dog turd, I gave it 5 stars after all. But again, that doesn't mean I'll deny that Pat is being shady af with his continued promises and projects. I don't get how people have been suckered, as you say, though. I mean, if you bought his soap and funded his kickstarter, sure, you were suckered. But simply waiting for a book that you're pretty sure you'll enjoy?

Again, they were marketing it as a continuation of the saga at the time. It was a bait and switch for a Kingkiller or Epic Fantasy story that turned out to be a character study of and exercise in cleanliness. I'm honestly taken aback that fans of Kingkiller relate so much to little girls.

I read stuff that resonates with me. Little girls finding soap doesn't. I can only kind of think like, I wonder what would have happened if Tolkien would have said.............Ok, here comes the return of the King..............hah, got ya, don't be mad snowflake people like me and here's a side character female who likes to stay clean poetically.

He probably wouldn't be remembered in the same way.

Okay, sure. I ever saw it marketed as 2.5 in Kingkiller, so I figured it would be something small. That makes a difference in my expectations going in I guess.

You only read stuff where that resonates with you? Sounds pretty boring imo. People are different I guess. Who would have thought.

Fohgetdatshit When I was a kid most guys I knew played with Transformers, He-Man, GI Joe, Star Wars, Atari, Nintendo, and D & D. There was probably a rare kid here and there who went into their sister's rooms and played with Barbie, Cabbage Patch, wore their sister's clothes and put on make-up. Where I came from the latter was more rare. Same or similar thing here, probably less in the extreme. I suppose there's guy's out there who may not realize they identify more with people of alternative persuasions. Perhaps, it's wake up call, or maybe not. To each his own. I likened it to when they sold me She-Ra when I was a kid as a He-man toy and its the same thing. I knew a Barbie when I saw it and it didn't matter that they called it She-Ra.

Øystein You are very insightful. Anyone that likes something that isn't immediately and obviously relatable to themselves is a closeted something or other. So I secretly want to be an ocd ridden little girl for liking TSRoST. Got it xD

Fohgetdatshit It's a factor of why I don't like it. I've outlined others. Why another does is up to them. That's a personal set of circumstances I'm not qualified nor have the desire to analyze. But usually, walks like a duck, talks like a duck...............

Øystein Sure, it's completely legitimate to not like a book because you can't relate to the main character. But then turning around and saying people that do are most likely struggling with some repressed shit is a bit of a leap imo xD And justifying it with "walks like a duck, talks like a duck" lmao. Not saying you can't say it, just that you're wrong.

So how about this for a reason; people are interesting. You already know yourself pretty well, so it's interesting to try to put yourself in someone else's shoes. See what the world looks like through their eyes for a little while, then stepping back and thinking "huh, that's different". Being interested in a character doesn't mean you want to be said character.

Fohgetdatshit If you say so and that works for you go ahead. I know what I like and don't need to reflect on how others perceive the world. I like the kind of work that got me into P. Rothfuss' early work. When he veered into territory that I know I don't like I was very disappointed. I'm not so much anymore except the guy keeps proving me right. Read the early posts. I didn't know the future then, but it seems to have gone much the way I addressed. I'm adding now 4 years later what I believe has transpired and looks to transpire, no more, no less. Sorry to drop this on you, but its really not about you.

Øystein Lol, I know it's not about me. You are posting on an open forum, so you're inviting people to comment/argue. But I can only comment on my viewpoint with any authority, so my comments are naturally pretty me-centric. Also, I'm just pointing out your errors. It's funny that you say that you don't need to reflect on how others perceive the world when that's exactly what you're doing though xD

I do agree that TSRoST was a very new and unexpected angle though. And I understand why people don't like that. I've been put off by similar stuff many times. Like I've said earlier as well, we're pretty much in agreement about Pat acting shady. I just don't know if he's doing it willfully or if he's completely delusional.

Fohgetdatshit I'm glad to see you are starting to come around. It's likely given enough time and experience with this Rothfuss debacle you'll agree more and more with my assertions. Time is a great teacher. We can see I have been right about the first 4 years worth of future and now I have chimed in to predict how the rest of this goes. Nothing to do, but sit back and watch from here. Obviously, you have evaluated your stance and that's a good thing. Just watch as more will be revealed by P. Rothfuss whom I have called out as the "Hack", and "Coward", that he is. I know there are loyalists. I was one too, once, but I saw the writing on the wall a long time ago, and it has come to pass. Now, it's only gotten worse as P. Rothfuss's comments are revealing even more what is actually going on...........

Øystein Cool beans

Holy Crap. I'm really old now. This book still hasn't seen the light of day. Patrick Rothfuss is the debbil.

Øystein Stopped caring a good long while ago. Will probably still read the next book, but I'll borrow it from a library. Rothboi ain't getting my money unless he releases 4 good books in quick succession. And that's super likely...

Fohgetdatshit Boredom here. It's hard to get "into" standard fare fantasy and I've read the greats with great repetition. As I remember back, there was this "almost" great one story that came out..........but alas, twas forgotten......fogged and neuron synaptically re-engaged as resentment towards the hack author. All enjoyment lost to new neuronal pathways of resentment.

The pandemic boredom allowed my brain to re-engage with the memory of what "almost" was. A bit of a foggy reflection of what could have been. It's Pandemic nostalgia at its worst. I'm interested in finding something new that doesn't suck......and taint easy. I'm Harry Potter and LOTR out at the moment. Any ideas for something that isn't run of the mill garbage?

Øystein I recently found this book. The Lies of Locke Lamora it's the first in a series where I'm sure the author will release the next book very soon. I also read A Game of Thrones and the following books several years ago, they were pretty good. The next book wasn't out yet when I finished, but I'm sure it has to be by now.
( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

Joking aside:
Empire of Silence
Blackwing
Cold Iron

I never managed to get into that series @Twerking, but I've been thinking I should give it another try.

EDIT: Not saying these are particularly different, especially not Cold Iron. But they are all pretty good.

Fohgetdatshit PR likes a little ballsack to the face.

Øystein Damn, time flies. I turned 30 and then some since I looked at this thread last. Did you get around to reading Empire of Silence @Twerking?
