SOLVED. Fantasy Book - Young boy named Felix is transported to different world. [s]

I read this book around 2014-15. The main character's name is Felix and I remember he suffered from some sort of health condition (possibly a heart problem). He is transported to a new world near the beginning of the book where there is a hierarchy of humanoid species that run the place. I remember Felix had encountered a creature that would contort its face and make jokes to get its victims to literally die from laughter, upon which time it would eat them. There were also these creatures that would appear from these types of pebbles thrown on the ground.
That's all I can remember. Sorry I wasn't able to include many details, I was young when I read the book. Hopefully one of you can help me out.
