~Leslie~ (akareadingmachine) | 1224 comments Why couldn't you read it? I haven't even started it yet. I picked up the other because I was in the mood for a light HR and I realized it would work.

But I really like this series (Drakon) but I know that some people didn't like this book. Just curious!!

What Happens At Christmas (Millworth Manor, #1) by Victoria Alexander

Review:
Cute, frothy holiday historical romance. It's a kind of comedy of errors and the characters are interesting, the dialogue witty and the romance sweet.

Sandra | 25911 comments I've finished my A book. I went with Alcandian Quest (Alcandians, #1) by Mary Wine but I'll review it in the morning :)

message 306: by Dragana (new)

Dragana (diaryofthebookdragon) | 2441 comments Leslie I am thinking about reading that same book for A shelf. Looking forward to hear your impressions. :)

message 307: by ~Leslie~ (new)

~Leslie~ (akareadingmachine) | 1224 comments I will let you know! I actually started it as I needed it for another challenge. I like it but I can see why some would not. There's very little action and a great deal of prose. But since I love this author's writing style it's ok with me.

Sandra | 25911 comments Alcandian Quest (Alcandians, #1) by Mary Wine
Shelf: A
Date: 30/11/14
Rating: ★★★

Alcandian Quest is your typical alien menage abduction series, however, with the added benefit of the Government helping them keep everything under the radar.

Our h, Jessica, 28 yrs old, catches her soon to be ex boyfriend and her friend romping in her bed, he thought a threesome would be a good way for Jessica to lose her virginity. Jessica didn't think so.

So she decides to go to her cabin in the mountains to get away from them, remember, they were in her bed in her apartment. When she gets to her cabin her brother Cole, who works for some mysterious govt department, is annoyed she came as he has a couple of aliens with him. Jessica of course just thinks they are hunks but due to her very recent breakup she isn't interested. But she keeps getting these flashes in her head that look to be from Dylan the hunk.

Dylan is astounded to have found his true bond mate but is disappointed she isn't leaping into his arms yet, even though he knows her body is ready.

The majority of the story is Dylan and his companion Jett trying to convince her that she is their one. And that gets a bit tedious, and then there is the govt doublecross to contend with.

I'll probably read the next one to find out how they rescue Jett's sister from our bad govt.

Terminated (Revivalist, #3) by Rachel Caine
11/27/14 4★

Review:
Final book in this trilogy and it gets off to a fast start, gets bogged down somewhere in the middle and then finishes strong. The zombie elements are quite strong in this one, so be warned. I like the arc of Bryn and Pat's relationship throughout the whole series and all the supporting cast make a strong appearance. Overall, I really enjoyed this series.

~Leslie~ (akareadingmachine) | 1224 comments Finished The Treasure Keeper (Drakon, #4) by Shana Abe and I actually liked it quite a bit. I am a huge fan of Shana Abe's writing and this book was beautifully written in my opinion. It is very slow to build but by the end, I could not put it down. It is a very atypical romance, but then - other than the first book in the series, all have been.

Sandra, there were quite a few negative reviews. I don't think you were in the minority in not liking it. I have a high tolerance for slow moving books if they include lyrical prose. But maybe it will be better this time around.

message 321: by Sandra, Kindle Operator Licence Required (new)

Sandra | 25911 comments Well, I'm not into lyrical prose, so we'll have to see. That is the sort of thing I skim straight over.

Gravediggers by Cindy M. Hogan

SOURCE: ARC
DATE FINISHED: Dec 01
RATING: 3 stars

REVIEW:

At the first glace, this blurb of the story comes across as a mystery with a dash of action, and I was intrigued. At first. Now that I've read it, I must say that I'm a bit disappointed.

Billy is a seventeen year old, whose father had been killed in a hit and run when he was seven years old. Billy and his mother miss his father constantly and Billy daily works and studiously to get into the FBI, so that he can investigate his father's murder as would then have proper and full authority. (Really????!!!) Billy and his friend Henry work part time as gravediggers for their small town of Halls. During one such digging, Billy comes across a green army fatigue bag buried in the place he is digging, which starts a series of strange events.

The plot seemed to take a few twists, but in the end, became too predictable. Billy also sounded more like a twelve year old rather than seventeen year old. There were also times when the book became a bit too preachy.

However, I did enjoy the book as a whole. If the book were tightened and made crisper a bit, it would have been much more enjoyable. As it was it was a good read, but it left me unsatisfied.

This is my first book by this author and I may try out other books too. Sometime later.

Burn for Me (Hidden Legacy, #1) by Ilona Andrews

SOURCE: Library
DATE FINISHED: Nov 30
RATING: 5 stars

REVIEW:

I heart this book. Absolutely, totally love this book.

Ilona Andrews duo do it again. They have created another intriguing world and magical system, totally awesome hero and heroine, and interesting secondary characters in this book.

Nevada is my kind of heroine. She is actually my idea of a perfect heroine- totally sensible, logical, reasonable, forward-thinking, no-nonsense heroine who knows her what is good and what is not for her. Nevada has officially become my MOST FAVORITE BOOK HEROINE till date.

"Mad" Rogan is an interesting hero. There was this sense of smug superiority about him at the first glace. But he grew on me so fast as the story progressed. You'd think with all the power he has and with his attitude with killing in general, he had no regard for others. But, his rare side is shown, especially at the end when he warns Adam Pierce,

We don’t kill civilians. We don’t show off in public and scare people. We don’t abuse our power, you fucking moron....

When anybody else says something like,

"...You want me, Nevada. You thought about it, you imagined it, .....You won’t just sleep with me. You’ll be obsessed with me. You’ll beg me to touch you, and when that moment comes, we will revisit what happened here today..",

my feminist side would rear to life and I would be fuming and mad with that person. Every time. But, in this book, Mad Rogan utters this exact thing to Nevada, and it did not trigger my bad side, which I am convinced, no one else other than Ilona Andrews can accomplish- this is no minor feat, let me assure you!

Another aspect I loved about this book is the importance given to family. Nevada loves her (crazy) family a lot and will do anything for them. It seems rare for books these days to bring out the importance of family in them, and I'm so glad Burn For Me accomplishes this quite brilliantly.

I loved Nevada's family and Bug. The story as a whole is also well written and moves at the perfect pace. I loved every single thing about this book.

Untitled, the second can't come soon enough! I can't wait to continue with Nevada and Rogan's adventures in the next book.

Sorry I have been so quiet. Leslie, you must have had your hands full with four under 6, I had 3 of them that young once and that was enough for me :)

The kids Christmas stuff is really keeping me busy, I hope to read my G book tomorrow. I finished my A and I'll put my review up in a second.

Loving all your reviews!

Blood Assassin (The Sentinels, #2) by Alexandra Ivy

Author name, ARC via Netgalley

Read: 2/12/14
Rated: 4.5 Stars

My review: Like Alexandra's GOE series the first book proved to be really different from the second book in the series. Yet again I went in to a book thinking I knew what to expect and I was really surprised with what I found. I am truly enjoying these though, I spent most of the book shaking my head and wondering what I was going to find on the next page, it's a fascinating world and I am loving all the little revelations that are occurring. The world building was immense although she refrained from any really annoying large info dumps which was a bonus.

I really liked the main pairing but I loved the little insights into Wolfe & Lana, the Tagos & Mave respectively. I think I am going to enjoy getting to know the leaders better but I highly suspect Alex will make us wait a few books for that. Can't wait for the next one!

Week 6:
Shelf #1:DE
Shelf #2: P

Looks like DE shelf call would give team 6 BINGO.

message 333: by Michelle (new)

Michelle (michelle_mc) | 2158 comments :( Oh well, I'll pick books just in case.

message 334: by Sandra, Kindle Operator Licence Required (new)

Sandra | 25911 comments Sorry to be so late but hubby worked till 2am so he was on stand down time this morning.

So, looks like Team #6 will win. You have the choice to read or not. Remembering that the idea is to reduce the tbr pile, I'll be reading :)

For P I think I'll try Primal Instinct (Pendragon Gargoyles 0.5) by Sydney Somers not sure on DE yet.

message 335: by ~Leslie~ (new)

~Leslie~ (akareadingmachine) | 1224 comments Congrats to Team 6! I think we did pretty good, however!!

I'll look for books, just in case. And like you posted, Sandra - the purpose is to reduce the TBR pile!

I'll read Concealed in Death (In Death, #38) by J.D. Robb for DE. It's a library book.

And On the Prowl (Alpha & Omega, #0.5) by Patricia Briggs for P. Gift card on Amazon.

Dragana (diaryofthebookdragon) | 2441 comments Sorry for being quit. My kid got sick so we were stuck in a hospital until today. And wi-fi on my phone didn't work.

And congrats to team 6. :)

Concealed in Death (In Death, #38) by J.D. Robb
12/6/14 4.5 ★

Review:
I really loved this one. Roarke discovers 12 bodies of young women in one of his buildings and Eve systematically goes about solving the case. I love her interactions with Roarke, I love her friendship with Mavis and Mira and I love all the little quirks about Eve we've come to know through all the books.

Dragana (diaryofthebookdragon) | 2441 comments Thank you all for your concern. Yes he is feeling better now. He got sick in one afternoon: fever, coughing etc. So I didn't have time to let you know.

I'll post my review tomorrow. And my choices for the rest of the shelves.

Wow In Death series has 38 books? It's so intimidating. :)

message 343: by Michelle (new)

Michelle (michelle_mc) | 2158 comments I forgot to say my choices. Creation in Death (In Death, #25) by J.D. Robb for DE, library book and I am still not sure of P.

~Leslie~ (akareadingmachine) | 1224 comments There's still one more to read!! I'm so sad - I'll have to start all over again. Can't do without my Roarke fix once a month.
So glad he is better. It's scary when they get sick so fast.
