My name is Laura Remson Mitchell, and I am posting here in hopes of getting some advice.
My science fiction novel, The Reality Matrix Effect, was published as a Kindle book in 2013 and in a Smashwords edition in 2014. The book posits a fictional scientific premise that I call "reality matrix theory." This theory is based on the idea that subtle oscillations of strings and/or branes in the human mind are correlated with one's orientation toward/attitudes about the world in which we live (a person's "reality matrix").
According to this theory, a spike in psychic energy can generate harmonic vibrations in compatible reality matrices and cause a version of reality compatible with that reality matrix to branch off, carrying those with the applicable reality matrix into the new reality.
Obviously, this is pseudoscience, but I did do research in an effort to make the idea seem believable and compatible with quantum mechanics (specifically, with the Many Worlds Interpretation). I continue to find the concept intriguing.
Now I am considering a sequel (either a novel or one or more short stories) tentatively titled "Matrix Jumping." The idea here is that in at least one version of reality, the scientist from the original novel (a controversial counter-culture figure named Alec Zorne) has found a way for someone from one reality to "jump" into a different reality. My challenge is to come up with a plausible explanation for how this might happen.
My current thought is that the oscillations associated with a given reality matrix vibrate harmonically in the same direction. That's why only those with the same reality matrix are carried into the new reality when a psychic surge stimulates those vibrations. To jump from one reality to another, reality matrix vibrations are isolated (perhaps through some kind of polarizing process) within a crystal. The crystal is then used in some kind of device through which a "jumper" can access the version of reality generated by the crystal-borne reality matrix "waves."
This idea probably sounds ridiculous to most of the scientists in this group, but remember, it is for a science fiction novel. I just want the concepts I'm using to be plausible. Then I have the challenge of trying to write the story in a way that incorporates the idea without losing the reader.
What I'm asking for is some advice regarding the believability of the "matrix jumping" mechanism. I would appreciate any constructive suggestions you might have.
