Book 5 sounds really, really good. Walt undercover should be pretty interesting! I'll be ready whenever it's time. I've plenty of other books to read in the meantime.

(view spoiler)[I really liked learning about Walt's time in Vietnam. He's mentioned it in previous books, but this time we get the full story. It's like a two-for-one bonus story. Johnson does a great job with those scenes, too. I could really feel his frustration after a period of time. (hide spoiler)]

I got about halfway through Another Man's Moccasins last night. So good! (view spoiler)[Really loving the Vietnam memories. It adds a layer to Walt's personality, and Henry's, that I didn't have before. I love, love, love that they have such a life-long friendship.

I assume that the dead girl isn't Walt's daughter. He clearly tells Henry there isn't a chance, but I haven't gotten far enough to really know what is going on. (hide spoiler)]

I liked how Cady didn't overreact to the photo, either. It's interesting that Walt has hidden how much Vietnam affected him. Cady seemed surprised that he had issues after the war. I am thinking he didn't really share how he was feeling with Margaret. Their marriage is still a puzzle to me.

I'm still not happy about Walt and Vic. I don't like them together, and Vic is definitely pursuing him still. The scene in the jail shows that Walt is on the fence, but he's definitely attracted to her. I wonder how Cady would feel if they started a relationship? I know they are all adults, but I think she would not be ok with it. (hide spoiler)]

Chapter 8ish

Michelle...I feel the same way. (view spoiler)[Walt's marriage is another big difference compared to the TV show. I think book-Walt loved his wife, but the loss didn't devastate him like it has in the show. In the first episode he was carrying around this wooden box labeled "TEA", even in the Bronco. Later we found out it was his wife's ashes.

Vic is seriously ticking me off. Get a clue woman! He's freaked out by sexually aggressive women! I know Cady is close to all of the women at the station, especially Ruby, but I agree that she'd be a little weirded out by a relationship between Vic and Walt. The only thing they really have in common is the job. (hide spoiler)]

First of all, I am absolutely terrified of snakes. #1 phobia for me. So the ending was pretty much the scariest thing written.
Walt's flashbacks to Vietnam were enlightening. It shows that he has always been a good guy. Interesting that Ruby thinks he cares more about the dead than the living. There's a lot of truth to that, I think.

And Sancho. I just love him, and when Walt walked into the hospital room I thought he was going to be dead and I am so glad he's alive!
There still seems to be a little tension between him and Walt, so I hope they work through it in the next book.

Glad Cady and Michael seem happy. I hope their relationship puts a stop to the Vic/Walt nonsense, but I guess we will see. (hide spoiler)]

On the waiting list for book 5, so I might not be able to start for a while.

The jumping timelines are throwing me off a bit--they are really close together so I really have to pay attention to the time jumps.
(view spoiler)[Walt undercover is interesting. He isn't very good at it! No surprise. Walt is such a straightforward, honest person that I think staying undercover would be a stretch.

Loving Henry, as always. When Walt found his name on the fight list, I laughed. Typical Henry.

And I liked the small glimpses into Walt's past. The ranch, the setting, his old family friends. This one reads a little bit differently, but I still like it. (hide spoiler)]

Looks like I am next in line for the library ebook of Another Man's Moccasin's. Maybe I'll get it this year.

I'll catch up to you, Michelle! I'm trying to finish The Winter Sea and Magic Breaks before. I have another BR starting the 20th, so I'm hoping to get to this one over the weekend. It's been a crazy week and I just haven't had as much reading time as I usually do.

No worries! Becky, it's another good one. They really are all great mysteries, and I love Walt and Henry so much. Their friendship is one of my favorite things about the series.

These really are great books, Michelle. Totally agree with you about Walt and Henry's friendship, too. If it weren't for other challenges, I'd probably read these back to back. I use to do that with series and then got out of the habit.

(view spoiler)[Since Walt is out of town undercover for most of the book, we get limited interaction with some of my favorites, like Ruby and Lucien. And really limited with Henry, although he is around somewhat.

I like how the seemingly little details come back and mean something later, like the call box on the pole, and the conversation at the beginning. They are all really well-plotted books. I should have caught the fortune in the rifle bit, but I didn't.

Oh, and Walt is reelected in a landslide? No surprise there. I want Walt to be my sheriff!

I assume Cady will say yes to Michael. That's good--I like them both.

I don't know if my library has the 6th book, so I may be waiting. Let's look at starting the next one in January so the others can catch up with us.

For some reason I read this series out of order. Probably due to library availability so I had read several in the series already and the next up for me now is Hell is Empty.

Walt sure does manage to get into a lot of situations

I liked this one. I liked that Cady was in this book. I would like to see more of her.
I didn't see Joe's involvement until the end. Johnson lays out a well crafted mystery!
Walt shaves his beard at the end of this book, should have seen that coming with the references to his beard at the beginning.
Not so sure what I think of Vic kissing Walt at the end. I would prefer their working relationship to a romantic relationship (hide spoiler)]

Oh....Laura...this is a good book. So emotional...more so than the others. In Chapter 1: (view spoiler)[I just loved the scene with Walt reading Red Rose/Sleeping Beauty to the children. I thought it was a bit telling, especially knowing Cady would be attacked at some point. Did you catch that it was her favorite fairy tale growing up? (hide spoiler)]

Love how Johnson weaves those little details in. ENJOY!

I am now slightly over 100 hundred pages and I think this is my favorite one so far.

Totally agree with you, Laura. (view spoiler)[I STILL haven't resolved what happened between Vic and Walt in this book. Part of me thinks that she's just a modern woman, secure in her sexuality and a bit aggressive. I think she was trying to comfort him, but the whole thing kinda creeped me out. I agree that she cares for him, but I'm worried she's on the rebound. It's too soon after her divorce.

As much as I like Vic, I don't think she's the right match for Walt...at least not right now. I keep thinking back to the first book and their conversation in the squad car while they waited on the forensics team to finish collecting evidence on the second body. THAT is the kind of relationship I want them to have.

The author seems to have a purpose for everything so maybe we'll understand what's going on with her in a few more books. (hide spoiler)]

I viewed their relationship as more father-daughter and I am curious to see what Cady will have to say about it when she finds out. Because she will, and I don't think she will be happy.

Not to mention the reaction from Ruby. Man, makes me nervous to think about it. This is the kind of thing that will cause people to judge Walt and lose some respect from his team (I'm thinking of Sancho and Ruby specifically. Lucien would probably give him a high five, and the other deputies won't care).

Wow, this was definitey my favorite Longmire book so far!
I think I figured out the same time as Walt that Jo's daughter was also William White Eye's daughter.
I totally love that the small time Sheriff solved the case.
I loved the ending. I thought it was appropriate that Walt was reading to Cady her favorite fairy tale.

What is Double Tough's name? For the life of me, I cannot remember.

I was wondering when Johnson would get into Henry and Walt's days in Vietnam. The victim: (view spoiler)[I can't remember her name off the top of my head and probably couldn't spell it anyway. I wonder if the victim was the daughter or grand daughter of the prostitute from the Boy Howdy Good Time bar that Walt was teaching to speak English. I'm thinking that the mother told her about Walt and maybe she things Walt is her father (or grandfather) or the mother told her that Walt would help her in some way (hide spoiler)]
