Book Synopsis:
Set in Victorian London with characters real and imagined, The Map of Time boasts a triple play of intertwined plots in which a skeptical H.G. Wells is called upon to investigate purported incidents of time travel and to save lives and literary classics, including Dracula and The Time Machine, from being wiped from existence.

What happens if we change history? The author explores this question in the novel, weaving an historical fantasy as imaginative as it is exciting—a story full of love and adventure that transports readers to a haunting setting in Victorian London for their own taste of time travel.

I got this book for Christmas last year, and I was hoping to get it read before Its been sitting on my shelf for a year!

When in November would you all like to start?

Karen, don't worry if you're running late. I have 4 November BRs picked out, so I'll be dropping in late also.

There are 4 copies of this book in my library system, but of course none of them are local. I haven't physically been to the libary in years, even though I've always got e-books checked out.

I'll drop by my local branch this week and see if they can have a copy sent over. If not, I guess I'm driving 20 miles for a book. (I should make a list. Oh, wait..I've got a library spreadsheet).

If I have to drive to Abita for it, I'll definitely be starting late.

I don't even really know how a buddy read works. What's the etiquette for spoilers when discussing the book?

Well, I think it is up to us. We can read a certain # of pages a night, read certain chapter, or just go commando.

Spoiler should just have the spoiler html code, so to hide in case someone hasn't gotten that far.

The 15th is perfect for me. I'm out of wifi range Thanksgiving week, and I'd hate to miss the discussion.

I requested the book today and should be able to pick it up Friday. I think the return date will be around the 21st, so it's a great time frame.

There is some confusion with the start date of this. The header says it starts on the 15th, but the list over in the request thread says it starts on the 1st. The discussion within here seems confusing, too. Some are starting on the first, some on the 15th. I'm just trying to figure out which date to let my team know about. Thanks!

At the top of our thread, the mods have it as the 15th.
So I would go with that date.

Sorry everyone, I am just trying to finish another Buddy Read real quick before I start this one.
I have been waiting to start, but I have had a crazy week last week, and didn't get to finish everything I started!

CHAPTERS 1 - VII

I've started too... I loved the introduction to Part 1 but the opening chapters weren't what I was expecting either. Although anything set in that era of Victorian England with its dark alleys and gothic undertones is my thing.

I like the writing and the way the author captures the feeling of the time. I think I'm going to like this...

Read a bit more - up to Chapter XIII.

The books taken a bit of a tangent but no doubt all the associated bits will come together to complete the tale.

This not my usual reading matter.. but I'm finding it refreshingly different.

I'm on Chapter 6. (view spoiler)[seems a little far fetched that he would fall in love with a prostitute after seeing a painting of her and then still be suicidal over her death 8 years later. But then this is a fantasy novel. I wasn't expecting the sex part. I mean they weren't like sex scenes in a romance novel. But it's been my experience that sex is only hinted at or not mentioned at all in these fantasy type books especially when written by men. But then I haven't read that many. (hide spoiler)]
