Erin | 376 comments I can't wait until when I go to college next year, for a number of reasons, but also because then I'll have access to that library and I can get a card for that county's public library and since I'll only be 30 minutes away from home I can still go to my current library

message 352: by Ashley Marie (new)

Ashley Marie I've got that trilogy upstairs too -- just picked up book 3 last time I was working at the library shop. I received book 1 as a Christmas present a few years ago and have yet to start it.

Monica (nutz4reading) Awesome job on getting all the slots filled in. I was planning to stop in and see if any of my books would fit.

To join in on the conversation about library cards. I have one library card but have access to many different libraries I can use. Plus I also use Overdrive for e-books and audio books.

Is there a way to do Overdrive for other sources other than the Library? I'm trying my best for this next year to NOT spend too much $$$ on books...there's worse habits to have, but I'm going to try my best to get books in a free way! I've looked at several of the "book club subscription" methods with a monthly fee, but most seem very limiting (only one book per month, limited publishing houses they work with, etc). Is there another free source (other than libraries) that anyone knows of to get online ebooks?

Feel free to message me if you know of other library-like options!

Lizz (Beer, Books and Boos) | 705 comments Right now I am reading
Mortal Danger and I'm loving it
Darkness Everlasting got to love vampires

Erin | 376 comments Tara Jo - if you could add that book you just posted in the read books to your tower teams shelf that would be great :D

Done...uggghhh...sorry...I even have it as a sticky shelf, but keep forgetting! I need to rearrange my sticky shelves so it shows up higher on the list!!!

Tara | 1259 comments ALL-
I'm going to update my profile to make it private...I've been getting tons of random friend requests lately for people I have NO CLUE who they are and not in any of the groups I'm in, so I want to make it private.

If you have any interest/need, feel free to friend me (or for the team caps if you need this to see my shelves). Thanks!

It's no problem, I've forgotten a couple times too

Lizz (Beer, Books and Boos) | 705 comments I have a new plan with my reading read one or two books for the library and then read two or three books I own. Maybe that will help me get to all or most of the books I own

Lizz (Beer, Books and Boos) | 705 comments Even though I just bought four new books lol

Lizz (Beer, Books and Boos) | 705 comments I am reading

Tara | 1259 comments Hey there...just checking to see if anyone else is planning to participate in the Maplecroft (The Borden Dispatches #1) by Cherie Priest BOM discussion this month? I had planned to participate, and it would count towards our Fix Santa's Sleigh task.

However, I'm looking over the books I've committed to for various challenges this month and not sure I can get it in comfortably. Or if I do it will be towards the end of the month, after the main read.

If anyone else is already planning to participate, would you be able to take over my assignment? If not, that's fine...I can make it happen. Just thought if anyone else was already going to do it, it would take a little pressure off me! Just let me know so we can change the list!

Thanks in advance!!!

message 364: by Erin (new)

Erin | 376 comments Tara Jo, I'm both participating and writing questions so we're definitely represented in that discussion

message 365: by Tara (new)

Tara | 1259 comments Okay cool.....I may still be able to squeeze it in and I want to read it for sure!! But glad to know if I fall behind and don't get to it till January the we're still covered!

Thanks Erin! And good for you for getting in there with the DQs!

message 366: by Ashley Marie (new)

Ashley Marie I'm hoping to start Sabriel tonight if I can tear myself away from Croak xD

Shilpa | 140 comments My shelf is : tower-teams-three

Also I've listed my books and points since 8th Nov HERE! :)

What is going on with the Christmas quest? Who's reading what? :)

Hey Shilpa-
Here's the link for the last post we did of who's reading what:
https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...

I'm not sure if there is a list of who's already read what or not (probably somewhere it's posted in the thread). I'll try to look later and see if I can find anything on the updated ones.

I know I've handled the GREEN as indicated with my name, but feel free if you have something to read that has my name by it to take it, and I'm sure everyone else would be okay too!

I think most people were trying to claim things in the Read thread as they finished a book if it fit somewhere, so jump right in girl! There's several people in our Tower Teams group that are also doing Hogwarts, so you'll see other familiar faces around as well!

message 377: by Shilpa (new)

Shilpa | 140 comments The Appeal by John Grisham ..can this work for orange? Then I can do that for "Find more paint".

Also I finished The Host (The Host, #1) by Stephenie Meyer on 6th. The female MC Wanda can be considered an inherently good girl..She helps the humans even going against her own kind and goes to the extent of sacrificing herself!Good enough?

And The Miserable Mill (A Series of Unfortunate Events, #4) by Lemony Snicket finished on 9th has a bad character called Count Olaf who is plotting against 3 children for 4 books now..Bad enough to suit the needs here? :P

message 378: by Shilpa (new)

Shilpa | 140 comments Can you explain how

Fix the Chimney
Pegasus (Ari)
The Raven Ring (Ari)
Guitar Notes (Ari)
The Big sleep (Ari)

works for the criteria given?

message 379: by Tara (new)

Tara | 1259 comments The fix the chimney works by connecting the words to form a square....

So if you write out:

The Raven Ring at the top of the square
Then down the left side from the T write out The Big Sleep
Then down the right side from the G write out Guitar Notes
Then across the bottom connect the P and S by filling in Pegasus.

Make sense? I can't figure out how to "draw it" here! Hopefully you get the visual there!

Sounds like those other items you listed above wood work out!

Erin, do you have an updated list of where we stand on the task? I can try to look at it later today if I have some time to see where we are on everything and what we still needed.

message 380: by Erin (new)

Erin | 376 comments I was just about to compile a list of what we still need. I'm going to go through and update the spreadsheet with the new read books posted and then I'll come back here and let y'all know what we are still missing

Monica (nutz4reading) Shilpa awesome on listing the books read since Nov 8th. Glad to see you know someone on the team. Tara is a great recruiter for a lot of groups!

message 383: by Erin (last edited Dec 23, 2014 12:17PM) (new)

Erin | 376 comments Christmas Quest Progress

What we still need to fill:
2 books with directional words in the title
GREEN and PURPLE book covers
all 4 bad/good books - either in the title or about a bad/good girl or boy
The last fix the chimney book which I believe Ari should be reading
1 book between 100-125 pages

I know most of those people had said earlier they could cover, I do have that written down on the progress report thing but in the end it doesn't matter who ends up covering them

message 384: by Tara (new)

Tara | 1259 comments My book of Entwined with You (Crossfire, #3) by Sylvia Day should have covered the green....

Do we think Maplecroft (The Borden Dispatches #1) by Cherie Priest had enough purple? I forget who was reading that one.

I've got one bad book for sure Reaper's Stand (Reapers MC, #4) by Joanna Wylde and sounds like Shilpa's 2 books could be used (one for good, one for bad) from her post #377 above.

That leaves 1 more good/bad and 1 short book. I probably could look back on what I read so far and at least one could hit the good/bad if needed. Not sure what we originally had planned for the 4 and if they are all still on target.

Thoughts?

You're totally right that will work for green. Sorry I must have missed it when I was updating everything.

I don't think it has enough purple but I will check with the head honchos.

Also thanks for pointing out her post I had missed that too....it's hard to see stuff when I'm working with my computer screen split between two windows.

message 386: by Erin (new)

Erin | 376 comments Okay so now we need 2 directional books, a purple cover (I'll still check on Maplecroft), 2 good/bad books, and 1 short book

message 387: by Tara (new)

Tara | 1259 comments Oh yeah...forgot I still have North of Need (Hearts of the Anemoi, #1) by Laura Kaye for directional (NORTH). And the book I'm currently reading Naked in Death (In Death, #1) by J.D. Robb can be directional (IN).

I don't read many short books since they don't count for some of my challenges, but perhaps someone else has one they can/have read??

SandyC (sandyc88) | 1193 comments Son of the Shadows (Sevenwaters, #2) by Juliet Marillier is about a good girl. I finished it yesterday. Will that work? The girl is 16.

Sure sounds like it! Sounds like the MC is one who strives for peace and wants harmony and will do what she can to keep that for her family/community! Sounds like a Good Girl to me!

message 390: by Erin (new)

Erin | 376 comments Both of those are good for directional and I just added Sandy's for good/bad

message 391: by Monica (new)

Monica (nutz4reading) For the good/bad girl/boy what exactly does it have to be?

message 392: by Tara (new)

Tara | 1259 comments Monica wrote: "For the good/bad girl/boy what exactly does it have to be?"

Definition is:

Check the List
[
Someone has tampered with Santa's list. This is terrible. Good boys are now bad boys, bad girls are now good girls and don't even look at Susan. Repair the list to it's former glory to ensure everyone their just rewards.

Read 4 books where the title contains the words good, bad or similar words or where the main character is a bad boy/girl or a good boy/girl. Earn 50 Golden Points when complete. (hide spoiler)]
