Oh cool...I'll have to check that out tonight...I can't access the Google Docs on my work computer (stupid network filters!) so I'll have to wait until I get home and check. Thanks!

message 52: by Kelly (new)

Kelly (ladykatala) | 5020 comments Bah, sorry. Linked the wrong spreadsheet. I'm going to see if we can make a public one with that information on to help.

This first buddy read requests page may help people find buddy reads they're interested in though.

Erin | 376 comments Ashley - could you post a link to the Maze Runner discussion?

message 56: by Tara (new)

Tara | 1259 comments Here's the 3 BR I've got setup...I'm not sure if everyone will be able to access the link as they are in a "restricted" group thread (adult content books).

Entwined With You - December 1, 2014

The Submissive - December 8, 2014

Captivated By You - December 27, 2014

eeep my bad I actually haven't started it yet bc I'm waiting to get it from the library. I can set up a group/discussion for it though.

Ashley Marie okay Erin here it is -- Maze Runner BR

Let me know if you need anything else....

message 61: by Steph Ann (new)

Steph Ann | 66 comments I haven't signed up for any buddy reads yet, but I do plan on doing so. I'm looking through my books to see what might make a good buddy read. :)

message 62: by Erin (new)

Erin | 376 comments @Ashley - alright cool, I was just about to say something. And as long as you have someone else reading with you then we should be good to go for the points for that!

Ashley Marie Erin wrote: "@Ashley - alright cool, I was just about to say something. And as long as you have someone else reading with you then we should be good to go for the points for that!"

question~ my buddy for this BR isn't a member of this group, hence why I originally made a different group for it. can I still make it count for TTIII?

message 65: by Erin (new)

Erin | 376 comments @Ashley - I'm pretty sure that they have to be a member of the group for it to count. But I think this group is public right so they could join and just participate in that one buddy read

message 66: by Erin (new)

Erin | 376 comments Also welcome to Elaine and Sandy!

message 67: by Tara (last edited Nov 04, 2014 08:16AM) (new)

Tara | 1259 comments From the rules, it states:

For NBRC Buddy Reads
Participating in a buddy read with a member from a different team, or with a member of NBRC who isn't on a Tower Team = 30 points

So seems like to count for the bonus buddy points they need to be part of the NBRC, but they don't have to be participating in TTIII. I'd say have them join NBRC....and maybe they'll get sucked in and have just as much fun as I'm having! :-)

And welcome, Elaine and Sandy! The more the merrier!

message 68: by Tara (new)

Tara | 1259 comments And how much longer before we can start???!!! UGGHHHH!!! Not like I don't have books I'm reading, but I want them to count! :-)

message 69: by Erin (new)

Erin | 376 comments @Tara Jo - I know right! I am so eager to start. I've started a BOM already for the challenge so I feel like it should have started already!

message 70: by Tara (new)

Tara | 1259 comments I find myself reading the "shorter" books on my list that I am reading for another challenge (i somehow need to read 9 more books this month, 13 if I can really find a way!). I'll get the 9 done for sure, but the other 4 I don't know about unless I can try to multi-task at work and listen to some audio books while I'm working!

message 71: by Erin (new)

Erin | 376 comments I need to read Bleak House (which is Dickens and it is 1000+ pages) by the end of Thanksgiving break for my english class and instead I keep reading books for challenges and BOM's and BRs

Correct, your other buddy must be a member of this group.

message 73: by Tara (new)

Tara | 1259 comments If it's being read in another group as a BR, but the participants are also part of NBRC, that still counts, right? This is my first challenge like this, and I've never done BR before at all...just want to make sure I'm following all of the rules!

So if we do a BR using another group's discussion thread, and participants in that are also doing TT, do we simply link to that thread and indicate a message on here saying "discussed with Jane Doe from Team XYZ" and that's all that's needed? Or do we need to put more details in there? Thanks.

message 74: by Kelly (new)

Kelly (ladykatala) | 5020 comments Tara Jo wrote: "If it's being read in another group as a BR, but the participants are also part of NBRC, that still counts, right? This is my first challenge like this, and I've never done BR before at all...just..."

Sorry, only accepting BR's within the group. If you want to set one up on this group that parallels another it's fine. We'd like to make sure all members get the same access to buddy reads to keep things more fair.

I think we'll be clarifying the rules a bit soon since there seems to be a lot of confusion in this area.

SandyC (sandyc88) | 1193 comments Hello everyone! I am so excited to be part of your team! I have been on Goodreads since 2008. I used to keep up with way too many groups and challenges, but for the last few months I haven't been so active on here due to real life complications. My favorite genre is historical fiction but I tend to read a little bit of everything.

I would like to say THANK YOU to Erin and Monica for volunteering to be our Captains!

Makes sense....thanks for clarifying. I'll probably message with those people I see on the other group read who are also here and suggest we setup a read on NBRC site too.

message 78: by Tara (new)

Tara | 1259 comments Never mind...disreagard....the one I was thinking of is still withing NBRC! I've got too much going on already...maybe I need to back off the Buddy Reads!

message 80: by Erin (new)

message 82: by Monica (new)

Monica (nutz4reading) Wow you are all getting into the BR. I always want to do one but I am not a fast reader and sometimes get sucked into reading the posts instead of the book.

Welcome to Elaine & Sandy!! IT is great to have you guys on our team.

message 83: by Monica (new)

Monica (nutz4reading) Okay, I may participate in some of the Buddy Reads. I know I have Pretty Little Liars on my night stand. I am not sure about the BOM yet. I think I have that book just need to find it first.

message 84: by Ashley Marie (new)

Ashley Marie With the state of my November TBR and the books I'm reading for other challenges etc, I'm opting out of BOMs and BRs with NBRC for the time being-- but each of my books will count for at least 20 points as it is, I don't think I have any on my TBR that are less than 200 pages lol

I haven't ever done BR before so I hope I didn't get in over my head! I usually a pretty quick reader so I figure if I was going to read anyway it may be fun with others. But November is already booked so I am not doing any of the BOMB! This month...we shall see about December I have another challenge that starts up December 1 and the tasks will be posted mid-level be so I will have to see where I can work in my BR I have committed to into that challenge

message 86: by Elaine (new)

Elaine (ofdustandstarlight) Hello, I'm new!

I'm a little confused right now cos it seems like there are a few things happening at once, but I'll read through all the threads during the weekends and hopefully catch up.

Will also try to participate in the BRs and BOMs!

Welcome, Elaine! This is my first time doing this as well, so hopefully all of us who are new can help each other out and draw on the experience of our teammates and the mentors! I'm just going with the flow here and plan to do whatever reads I need to do for other challenges (which is what drew me to this one is there's not set 'task' other than to read!) Looking forward to starting in a few days!

message 92: by Tara (new)

Tara | 1259 comments Hey everyone...are you ready to get started??!! Seems like either we have a quiet bunch, or everyone is just busy with other goings-on. I noticed a few of the other groups have done some 'getting to know you' type questions...anyone up for that so we can get so know our group a little better? I know a few people have introduced themselves briefly upon checking in, but here's a few "ice breaker" questions I 'borrowed' from another team.

1. How many books are you currently reading?

2. Which of these are you enjoying the most?

3. What style/genre of book do you typically enjoy reading?

4. Do you have any pets, if so what?

5. What is your favorite non reading hobby?

6. What do you do for a job?

7. What area of the world do you live?

message 93: by Tara (new)

Tara | 1259 comments 1. How many books are you currently reading? 2 Daughter of Smoke & Bone (Daughter of Smoke & Bone, #1) by Laini Taylor and Beneath the Secrets (Tall, Dark & Deadly, #3) by Lisa Renee Jones

2. Which of these are you enjoying the most? Daughter of Smoke & Bone (Daughter of Smoke & Bone, #1) by Laini Taylor

3. What style/genre of book do you typically enjoy reading?
I typically read a lot of romance (the spicier the better usually). However, the last few months I've started doing various reading challenges that have gotten me out of my comfort zone and I've expanded into reading other types based on the need of the challenge.

4. Do you have any pets, if so what?
2 dogs (Gia, an Italian Mastiff, and Dozer, a pitbull mix)

5. What is your favorite non reading hobby?
I read in pretty much all of my spare time, but I also enjoy watching TV to relax.

6. What do you do for a job? I work for a computer software company that works with Financial Institutions (credit unions)

7. What area of the world do you live? San Diego, CA USA

message 94: by Erin (new)

Erin | 376 comments I'd definitely like to get to know everyone better.

1. I'm currently reading 6 books, which is unusually high for me. Hamlet and Bleak House are both for school. And then The Lies of Locke Lamora, Loving Shakespeare, Code Name Verity, and A Storm of Swords.

2. Well I've barely started Hamlet and Bleak House so no opinion yet. And A Storm of Swords has been put on hold while I clear these others off my list so I'm not going to count that one. So I'm going to have to say The Lies of Locke Lamora.

3. Generally fantasy of various sorts. Occasionally some historical fiction and chick lit are thrown in for some quicker, lighter reads.

4. Yep! I have an English Setter puppy named Bandit. And two tabby cats named Piccolo and Pepper

5. It depends on my mood really. I really like knitting.

6. Well I'm a senior in high school so I don't really have a job....but this upcoming summer I am going to be a camp counselor

7. I live in Georgia, USA

message 95: by Monica (new)

Monica (nutz4reading) Tara Jo Thanks for doing this!! It is a great idea!

2. Which of these are you enjoying the most? Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix (Harry Potter, #5) by J.K. Rowling

3. What style/genre of book do you typically enjoy reading? I enjoy fiction the most. I read mystery, fantasy, romance, humor. Usually what ever I am in the mood for.

4. Do you have any pets, if so what? Yes. I have a Beagle Basset Mix named Samantha, an orange tabby named Blokus, a Calico cat named Whiskers. My son's dog is also here and he is a Plot Hound named Jax.

5. What is your favorite non reading hobby? Usually listening to music or playing games (video and computer)

message 98: by Steph Ann (new)

Steph Ann | 66 comments 1. How many books are you currently reading? Just one, The Immortal Crown (Age of X, #2) by Richelle Mead , which is odd for me. I almost always have at least two going, one to review for DFT, and one for fun. I'm trying to get caught up on my review books though since I got behind after the baby was born.

2. Which of these are you enjoying the most? I'm really enjoying The Immortal Crown (Age of X, #2) by Richelle Mead so far, although it's not a book I can read when I'm tired since there's a lot going on. I may have to start something a bit lighter soon for those 2am feedings lol.

3. What style/genre of book do you typically enjoy reading? I stick primarily to paranormal romance and urban fantasy when reading for fun, but my reviewing for the Dark Faerie Tales website has had me review some contemporary romance as well as a little erotica, which I've enjoyed as a change of pace.

4. Do you have any pets, if so what? 2 cats, Libby and Bear

5. What is your favorite non reading hobby? I'd probably have to go with either video games (rpgs like Mass Effect or Dragon Age) or watching movies, neither of which I've gotten to do much of since having my son in September lol.

6. What do you do for a job? I'm a research assistant for the research division of a substance abuse treatment facility. So my time is mostly spent proofreading research articles and grant proposals.

7. What area of the world do you live? I'm in the United States, in Central Illinois.

message 99: by Steph Ann (new)

Steph Ann | 66 comments Tara Jo, I really enjoyed Daughter of Smoke & Bone (Daughter of Smoke & Bone, #1) by Laini Taylor . I still haven't gotten around to reading the second book though. There are just too many books and so little time!
