Tara | 1259 comments Also, I'm just pulling these from the Books Read Thread...so as long as the completed date date is between Jan 3 and Jan 18, I'll pick it up from there.

I saw a few books posted yesterday that were finished on Jan 2 and before so I didn't include those, but all others I'll get from there so no need to post anything anywhere else.

Erin | 376 comments On our spreadsheet we have officially 161-450 and 451-600

message 503: by Erin (new)

Erin | 376 comments So I went and looked at the spreadsheet for the other light teams and the darkness teams and here is what we have finished so far (the number is teams who have finished that category out of 3 teams):

Light:
- 100-160: 2
- 161-450: 3
- 451- 600: 3
- 601-750: 1
- 751-900: 1
- 900+: 0
For a total of 10 categories done

Darkness:
- 100-161: 2
- 161-450: 3
- 451-600: 3
- 601-750: 1
- 751-900: 1
- 901+: 0
For a total of 10 categories

Light has read a total of 29 books
Darkness has read a total of 35 books

message 504: by Tara (new)

Tara | 1259 comments Okay cool....so is it all Light Teams combined need to have at least one in each category? Or each individual team has to have one in each for any of their books to count? Maybe I misunderstood that. I was thinking each individual team needed the individual tasks.

message 505: by Erin (new)

Erin | 376 comments I believe each individual team has to read one from each category. But to win light as a whole has to read more total book than the darkness teams

message 506: by Sunshine (new)

Sunshine (sunshine22222) | 804 comments So, we have -751 to 900

I just PM Tara. This book has 882 pages and has been on my list to read The Encyclopedia of Creative Cooking by Charlotte Turgeon . ;)

882 pages.

Instead i can read 6 - 7 books

Are the numbers the same for light and dark for each category?

Light and Dark have the same number of teams. There's 2 elements with 4 but they're battling each other.

Tara | 1259 comments Kelly - since you're around can you verify if cookbook is acceorable? I just posed in general question thread too....thanks.

Kelly (ladykatala) | 5020 comments Tara Jo wrote: "Kelly - since you're around can you verify if cookbook is acceorable? I just posed in general question thread too....thanks."

I'll check in the morning to see if anyone answered. My gut feeling is probably not. I answered something similar for another person and unless the cookbook is mainly text (like an instructional one) then it probably doesn't have the word count to justify the pages. We might be able to do the same thing we do with poetry books and adjust the pages based on estimated (or actual) word count.

The reviews mention something about looking at it for the pictures so I'm doubting you'd get full page credit.

message 513: by Tara (new)

Tara | 1259 comments Okay thanks! Wasn't sure as I didn't see a lot of guidelines on what was or wasn't acceptable so thanks for looking into.

Lizz (Beer, Books and Boos) | 705 comments Right now I am reading
Nightfall Pages 327
The Vicious Deep Pages 372

Sounds like this may be a no-go....response from Mod in Q&A thread:

We would need to be able to verify the word count for cookbooks as I would generally put them into the category of "graphic novels", which also includes books like coffee table books. A question was asked in the captains group about a specific book so I think that one was looked into and wasn't able to be verified as enough words, but I'm not sure if your book is the same one

Shilpa, if your book has 752 that would be great if you're planning to have it finished by Jan 18! Keep us posted when you can!

Same here! Last weekend I wasn't feeling to great (achy, congestion, sneezing, etc) so I decided to just lounge all weekend and read. My husband all these things planned and I just wanted to relax. If he wants stuff done around the house, he can do it! LOL!

Same here. I've got January planned out and a tentative list for February, but that's assuming I can stay on top of it! I've already had to forgo the Name of the Wind BR, plus the Shadow & Bone and Blade Itself BRs from December, and I'm not doing myself any favors by continuing to get things from the library when I should be reading what I've got at home lol.

At least you're getting it from the library and not buying more like I seem to manage to do! I told myself when I started doing these challenges I WOULD NOT buy any books specifically for challenges! I've got over 400 books on my kindle right now that I've either bought or gotten for free that I've not read....surely I can find a book to use in those 400 that I don't need to buy any more (or even download any free ones).

But then I hear of a new series or book I want to try....and the wait list at the library is too long and I'll miss the BR! Or my library doesn't have it...or...whatever. So I buy another one (what's one more??!!). I've mostly managed to keep up with the books I've committed to (I think I missed out on 2 I planned to read in December) but on target so far this month!

message 526: by Ashley Marie (new)

Ashley Marie I got an Amazon card for Christmas that I still have yet to use shock! awe! but I'm most likely getting books 2 and 3 of the Croak trilogy, a play, and Patti LuPone's memoir.

Monica (nutz4reading) I am so sorry I haven't been in here that much but real life has been busy. I finally finished a book for 2015. Hoping to get a few more done this week.

Juliana Rodrigues (julianamfrodrigues) | 1748 comments Hello Lightning Crafter team!

I'm glad you guys are working your way in the Light x Darkness read-a-thon duel!

We from Lightning Hound have completed 5 of 6 categories.

Lets give our best to defeat the Darkness. :)

message 529: by Tara (new)

Tara | 1259 comments Hey team....just a quick update. I've updated the posts-to-date on for the Light vs. Dark....we have 3/6 done. Here's the ones we have left:

■between 601 and 750 pages
■between 751 and 900 pages
■over 901 pages

Does anyone have a book they are planning to read/finish in the next week (deadline is next Monday Jan 18th) that fit into any of these categories? I know a few of you mentioned you were working on it, just need to know if anyone can commit to any of these? We've done awesome in the mid-range categories, but need these last few for any of our books to count! Keep up the hard work and we can do it!

AWESOME!!! That's great news! Thanks for the update. That will knock out that category, so then we just have the two monsters!!

message 534: by SandyC (new)

SandyC (sandyc88) | 1193 comments I'm reading the kindle edition of The Hero of Ages which has 772 pages, but the hardcover has 572 pages. The MM paperback has 748 pages. Am I allowed to count the higher page count? I'll definitely be done this week.

I didn't realize this little contest was going on. I've been out of the loop!

Great news Erin!!!

Sandy wrote: "I'm reading the kindle edition of The Hero of Ages which has 772 pages, but the hardcover has 572 pages. The MM paperback has 748 pages. Am I allowed to count the higher page count?..."

It should be whatever version you are reading, so whatever version is in the higher category (if it's 772 hopefully?) that would work! If you mark what you're reading the Kindle Version, I think that's what counts, but we can confirm! Otherwise, if it's the MM Paperback version, that would cover the 601-750, then we'd just need one more for 751-900.

message 536: by Erin (new)

Erin | 376 comments @Sandy and TaraJo - I think it is whichever you mark so you should probably mark the 772 because we need that category

Tara | 1259 comments Erin wrote: "@Sandy and TaraJo - I think it is whichever you mark so you should probably mark the 772 because we need that category"

I agree that's the one we really need! HOpefully that's the version Sandy is reading too....I remember there being a question on a previous month BOM regarding page length and which would be used because they were so different. I was thinking we could ask in the Q&A thread to confirm if we should use the version that is being read or what, especially since depending on the version it could put it into 3 different tiers!

Bummer....cuz there is a 772 version (Kindle Version)!!!

So looks like we still may need one book for the
■between 751 and 900 pages category.

If anyone has one in the works, let us know so we can know it's covered!

YOU ROCK ASHLEY!!!! That is exactly what we need! Doing the happy dance here!!! So Sandy just did the 601-750 slot, and Erin has the 901+ slot....if you can knock out the 751-900 that will be it!

You guys are awesome and so glad you were able to pull this out! Monday the 18th is the deadline, so keep us all posted, Ashley and Erin on your progress!

I'm doing a happy dance here....can't post pics from my work computer, but picture a happy dance .GIF here!!!
