Finished reading late last night. It certainly kept me engrossed from beginning to end. If you love post apocalyptic Grace Hamilton has lots of different series to read, and I highly recommend her.

Currently reading Chinese epic fantasy Grandmaster of Demonic Cultivation: Mo Dao Zu Shi (Novel) Vol. 1 by Mò Xiāng Tóng Xiù, which was adapted into the wildly popular action drama series "The Untamed" (available on Netflix). The novel is now a New York Times bestseller. I watched "The Untamed" twice and absolutely adored it.

I loved the insight of Raspberry Rainbows by Pinkie Paranya. But now I have started reading The Anthropocene Revisited by John Green. I am not convinced about this book; it seems to be a brag about how much random knowledge the author possess. That being said, he has made some interesting points. For example, here's is cautionary tale for writers: Fitzgerald's The Great Gatsby was not recognized until WWII when the State Dept. send 150 K copies to the troops in Europe. In 1936 Fitzgerald's royalties were ~$80. He died at 44, mostly impoverished and forgotten. By 1960 Gatsby was selling 50K copies and currently sells ~ 500K per year. These insights by Green emphasize the rapid change in Homo Sapiens in the 20th century. We are just a small cog in a massive machine.

A recent writing assignment for a blog takes me to Claire Stewart's "As Long as We Both Shall Eat: A History of Wedding Food and Feasts." (2017)
Claire's prose glides into the 20th century from the Gilded Age (which will grip us when HBO MAX starts its "The Gilded Age" series this January, 2022). We might think "wedding cakes," but this book is rich with richest fare from the sea to the farm and ranch. Royal and royal-ish weddings are covered (including Jumping the Broom in African-American weddings.
