Tamara Agha-Jaffar | 425 comments I read The Spare Room by Helen Garner. Loosely based on one of Garner's friends, the novel takes an unflinchingly honest look at the challenges faced in taking care of a friend with terminal cancer.

C.M. Halstead (cmhalstead) | 16 comments I am rereading Needful Things for its storytelling narrative style and as research for writing what is going on in several characters brain’s at the same time. He is a master at it and I do it often… So homework and fun read combined.

Needful Things, Stephen King

Molly | 4 comments I just finished Hex by Thomas Olde Heuvelt, do not recommend. Just started Finding Mrs. Ford by Deborah Goodrich Royce, only 14% in but really enjoying it so far!

message 3858: by J. (new)

J. Rubino (jrubino) I just finished the 4th book in Mick Finlay's "Arrowood" series. William Arrowood is a down-on-his-luck, slovenly private detective who resents all of the fame and fortune lavished on that fellow Sherlock Holmes.
Loved and bought all the books, but this one was a big disappointment. I posted a review.

message 3859: by Josephine (new)

Josephine Strand | 27 comments I just finished The Four Winds by Kristin Hannah and loved it. A historical novel set in the 30s. A thoroughly spellbinding and moving novel.

message 3872: by Rae (new)

Rae Toonery | 12 comments Just finished Summerwater which has a killer ending! Started Orlando - heavy going due to the tiny font and dense formatting (paragraphs a page long with zero line spacing) so I'm alternating with The Dinner Guest, which opens with a real bang!

I am currently reading, arguably, the worst book I have read in a very long time. Laurel K Hamiltons Guilty Pleasures, I suspect I am not going to get anywhere near the end it is so atrocious.

Hi Khalid, how are you? Are you looking for reviewers for your book? If so, I'd love to read and review it in exchange for a physical copy, as I don't really have a good way to read ebooks. My review would be published on Goodreads and my book blog. I can also be reached by email at: justabookishblog@gmail.com
Thank you!

message 3897: by J. (new)

J. Rubino (jrubino) Finished "The Conjure-Man Dies" and put up a review.
Published in 1932, it is a murder mystery set in Harlem, among the first, if not the first, to be written by an African-American author featuring a pair of African-American detectives (a police detective and a physician.) Despite some material and language that would be considered stereotype by today's standards, it's a very solid mystery, well-plotted. Before his untimely death at age 37, the author, Rudolph Fisher (doctor, dramatist, novelist, musician) had planned at least two sequels.
