Tamara Agha-Jaffar | 425 comments I finally read The Heart Is a Lonely Hunter by Carson McCullers. I've read a few of her other books but never this one. It was absolutely amazing. I can't get over the fact that she was only 23 years old when she wrote it.

ERIC | 2 comments I've just finished 'Alice' by Christina Henry, literally had to force myself to put it down to sleep and eat etc! It's certainly not a kids book though :-)
Alice (The Chronicles of Alice, #1) by Christina Henry

and now I'm half way through 'Recursion' by Blake Crouch, a real mind-bender, very clever and a great read (I am keen to whizz through it anyway so that I can get to the next book in The 'Alice'series which is 'Red Queen' and is already sat on my Kindle waiting!)
Recursion by Blake Crouch

Tamara Agha-Jaffar | 425 comments I read The Red Sofa by Michel Lesbre, translated from the French by Nicole Ball and David Ball. It's a quiet, unassuming novel about a woman's internal meanderings while on the Trans-Siberian Railway and the lasting impact of her friendship with her elderly neighbor.
I thought it was very good.

Elizabeth Merry (merryelizabeth) | 12 comments I am in the middle of "Iron Lake" by William Kent Kreuger and I love it. I'm happy to say it's the first of a series featuring Cork O'Connor and I'm looking forward to reading more about this very attractive hero! It's a really good thriller with a lot of depth and a strong narrative.

Tamara Agha-Jaffar | 425 comments I re-read Cry, the Beloved Country by Alan Paton. A beautiful story, beautifully told about South Africa during Apartheid. Although it's been years since I last read it, I think this is the third time around for me. It is as powerful and as beautiful now as ever.

I've actually read that book three times myself. If I take it down from the book case right now, I'll be hooked again!

Tamara Agha-Jaffar | 425 comments I read Antigone Rising: The Subversive Power of the Ancient Myths by Helen Morales. She deconstructs some classical myths by interpreting them with a feminist lens and demonstrating their relevance to today. Some of the connections she makes are fascinating.

message 2840: by Victoria (new)

Victoria Zigler (toriz) | 2898 comments I finished the 6th “Outlander” book (A Breath Of Snow And Ashes) and I really enjoyed it, despite it being a lot more slow-paced than the earliest books (with the last couple in the series, it has helped that I am interested in the historical and medical aspects of the story). Now on book 7 (An Echo In The Bone).
