What are you currently reading (or just finished)?
I'm reading a book for a review group and because I have so little time to read these days between the books I read and review, and writing my own book, I've been listening to books on audio while I drive, cook and clean. It certainly passes the time nicely. Right now, I'm listening to Where'd You Go Bernadette by Maria Semple. Can anyone shed some light on why this has so many positive reviews? am I missing something? I almost gave up on it by the second chapter. Something I rarely do. I am sticking it out and, it's getting a little better, but marginally.

Hi, David, it's Catriona McPherson. I thought as the author's name appears if you let your cursor hover over the link, I wouldn't clutter my post!
Finished Dark Space Universe and The Day I Died. Still working on Welcome to the Apocalypse.
Started reading The Theta Patient.
Listening to the audiobook of Toward Yesterday.

Wow Keith! You've been busy! :-)
Just started Gone, But Not Forgotten to get in
a Halloween mood.
Finished People of the Whale
by Linda Hogan--a lovely novel about a family from the A’atsika Nation on the Pacific Coast. Hogan blends Native American mythology and folklore with daily life. One of the main characters enlists in the military and is shipped off to Vietnam. He returns to his village many years later, a fractured human being. The novel addresses the themes of wholeness, reintegration, and the interconnectedness of all life. I gave it 5 stars and highly recommend it.

I am currently reading Structuring Your Novel: Essential Keys for Writing an Outstanding Story by K.M. Weiland. It's taking me a while, because I am reading it at the same time that I am re-reading my own book, The Guardians of Eastgateand re-writing it for a second edition.
Finished Kate Vaiden by Reynolds Price. I read it because it was recommended in another group as being similar to An Unnecessary Woman. Unfortunately, it wasn't anywhere near as good. I found it disappointing. My review:

Alif the Unseen, by G Willow Wilson. Really interesting genre mash-up, of sorts. A lot of fantasy-meets-technology. It's a unique experience and I'm really enjoying it.

Ah, reading your own novel can be so much more difficult than non-writers can understand. I've been there! Best of luck in your re-writes.
Also, I've been wanting to read a non-fiction author guide recently, but there's so many out there I'm not sure which ones are worth reading. Would you suggest reading Structuring Your Novel?
Read number 6 in the Jayne Castle Ghost Hunter/Harmony series - Obsidian Prey - and reviewed it - https://www.goodreads.com/review/show/2169952866.

I finished Golden Hill by Francis Spufford. A delightful book--one of the best I've read. From my 5-star review on goodreads:
A wonderful combination of adventure, mystery, humor, historical authenticity, and social commentary flavored with scintillating dialogue, well-developed characters, and a charming hero, all of which are deliciously wrapped in a package of well-written 18th century diction.

Read Anne McCaffrey's Dragonflight and reviewed it - https://www.goodreads.com/review/show/1444115513.
Just finished L.A. Requiem, by Robert Crais and always enjoy the Cole/Pike novels. Also finished Gallowglass, by Gordon Ferris. Again a book from a series of 4 set in late 1940s Glasgow. If you can keep up with the written brogue, then you're away and into a good book.
Finally, just started Naked Heat, by, well err, Richard Castle? Ok the wife got me into watching Castle, the books were cheap and innate them a go. To my surprise, I'm actually enjoying this one!
Finished The Theta Patient, Carl Sagan's Hunt for Intelligent Life in the Universe and Toward Yesterday.Started reading Gold Shadow and listening to The Atlantis Gene.
Read The Grey Horse by R A McAvoy and reviewed it - https://www.goodreads.com/review/show/1649453442.Also read The Changeover by Margaret Mahy and reviewed it - https://www.goodreads.com/review/show/2186487449.
I just finished Independent People by the 1955 Nobel Prize Winner in Literature, Halldór Laxness. It's an amazing novel about an Icelandic sheep farmer at the turn of the 20th century. But it is about so much more than that. It's about life and aspirations and the sacrifices a person is willing to make to achieve his dream. It is beautifully written, long, but well worth it.

I just started reading Twenty-Seven Tiered Almond Cake by Amber Laura. Oh, man, this is a fun read about a woman not wanting to plan her sister's wedding but doing it anyway. The characters, dialogues and scenes are so vivid, you feel you're standing right in the middle of it all! Awesome. Twenty-Seven Tiered Almond Cake
Read a couple of supernatural tales lately, The Pet by Charles L Grant - reviewed - https://www.goodreads.com/review/show/2198127903 and The Fetch by Robert Holdstock - review - https://www.goodreads.com/review/show/2198127903.
I finished Orfeo by Richard Powers. I have mixed feelings about it. I thought it was an ambitious book, loosely based on the myth of Orpheus. Because it is saturated with references to musical compositions and the ins and outs of a musical piece, one really needs to have some background in musical theory to fully appreciate it.

I recently finished
The Little Blue Book for Authors
and reviewed it here. It's a great book, reasonably priced, and the author is very active here on Goodreads. She knows what she's talking about and her books give practical advice.
I just finished The Remains of the Day by Kazuo Ishiguro, the 2017 Nobel Prize Winner in Literature. Absolutely amazing. My review: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
I read a new translation of Beowulf. This one is by Stephen Mitchell whose translation of Gilgamesh: A New English Version I loved. I enjoyed his Beowulf since he captures the spirit, essence, and tone of the original. My review on goodreads:

Lexie, please leave author name next time, After The Armistice Ball. Sounds interesting!
I am about to start reading, "Lucky" by Alice Seabold. I heard Garrison Keillor reference this book on a recent NPR broadcast of "Writer's Almanac."
