Yue | 135 comments Hi, I am looking for funny YA contemporary books with nerdy/geeks/otaku MC. Preferably male MC; coming-of-age/slice of life kind of book.

Something similar to:

Life in Outer Space
Know Not Why

Thank you.

Alan Mendelsohn, the Boy From Mars totally funny book, and the 2 main characters are kind of nerdy/geeky/nebishie type characters.

Michele | 2488 comments You might like Only You Can Save Mankind or Secret Diary of Adrian Mole Aged 13 3/4, The.

Also, take a look at Goodreads' Best Geek Book Lists. Tons of good ideas there.

Peter Meilinger | 469 comments I second the recommendation for Alan Mendelsohn. Pinkwater is one of my favorite authors, and my favorite book of his is The Education of Robert Nifkin. Nifkin is a nerd in the old-school sense, in that he doesn't fit in more than he's super smart and into geeky things. Great book, though, and very funny.

Another book that comes to mind is Ready Player One. The main character is a huge nerd and an expert on late 20th century pop culture. This is because he lives in a mid-21st century hellhole and is desperately trying to be the first to discover the clues hidden by an eccentric billionaire, whose will states that the first person to decipher all his riddles and puzzles will get his entire fortune. It's a great read and manages to be a coming of age story, a dystopian science fiction story and a love letter to geekery all at the same time.

Michele | 2488 comments How did I not think to mention Fangirl?! Great one :)

Holly | 4 comments I second Fangirl. The main character is a college aged female so it doesn't exactly match what you want, but it's so so good! :)

The problem I have with this list is that almost all of them have a female MC :S
