I have literally been reading all day for this challenge because I have no work to do until I get my thesis edits back. *Sigh* I have no life lol

You can, but I'll also be checking it regularly and will update it if not everything's in there. Like today, I already added your book because I saw it in your special shelf.

Logan (loganturner) | 1643 comments I'm teasing out the end of The Lies of Locke Lamora. I don't want it to end!

I have so many books to read this month it's just silly. SILLY. At some point I know I'll have to choose but it's like picking favorites and I hate it. Why can't my job just be reading and playing on Goodreads?

message 504: by [deleted user] (new)

Kristin wrote: "I finished Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone today. I have to finish The Gunslinger before I pick up any other books."

I'm also working on both of those.

Btw, joining two new buddy reads......

The Clash of Kings (which will go onward in the series)
The Discworld Series read (which includes like a million books)

I have to start reading that too. It's been sitting an office forever because I've been too lazy to go and get it. But I better hurry up and read it so I can catch up with all the buddies on the Buddy Read lol

message 506: by Jenn (new)

Jenn (engelsigh) | 1339 comments Working On Harry Potter...just finished I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings... it kind of just ended abruptly in my opinion.

message 507: by Kristie (new)

Kristie | 3595 comments Logan, I wish that was my job all the time! Unfortunately, I don't have any time to read at work and I tend to work long days. I read in little bits before bed and on weekends. Currently listening to Big Little Lies on my commute and loving it.

message 508: by [deleted user] (new)

Is there a place where they put up the team scores that they update every two weeks or something? I'm interested to know what's happening all over the place. Wish I could read faster lol

message 509: by Jenn (new)

Jenn (engelsigh) | 1339 comments Krisrin I liked parts of it here and there but overall not so much. I tried not to be too hard on it because its the story of someone's life experiences...but...the front says something about it being the great life story. Well it talks about her childhood, though it seems all out of sequence in some spots....and then she has a baby thats it. So did her life stop when she had a baby? If this is here life story, then wheres the rest of it?

message 510: by Jenn (new)

Jenn (engelsigh) | 1339 comments I have not read Sula. I did read Their Eyes Were Watching God, and really liked that one. Better written and had more heart.

message 511: by Jenn (new)

Jenn (engelsigh) | 1339 comments I haven't done a buddy read before. I read Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's stone and was commenting on the thread. IS that considered a BR or a BOM? And how do I count it for points?

message 512: by [deleted user] (new)

Jenn ~ Nemirdis wrote: "I haven't done a buddy read before. I read Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's stone and was commenting on the thread. IS that considered a BR or a BOM? And how do I count it for points?"

Yup commenting with people who aren't on our team (which we did) means you get points for a Buddy Read. You get 30 extra points in addition to the page number points. BOM means book of the month, which is chosen by the group mods. You do the same thing as a buddy read, just you get 20 points instead of thirty.

Cool. Thanks. I saw something in a thread about posting if you want to read a book with someone and got confused.

Jenn ~ Nemirdis wrote: "Taryn wrote: "Jenn ~ Nemirdis wrote: "I haven't done a buddy read before. I read Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's stone and was commenting on the thread. IS that considered a BR or a BOM? And ho..."

All the scheduled buddy reads are listed here, but if you are reading something that you want to make into a buddy read, you post in the same thread, asking around to see if someone from another team (or not in TTIII at all) wants to read it with you. Then the mods set you up a thread (like the one we had for HP). So they probably meant that middle part.

But it's a good place to pick up points. If you're reading something now anyway, you can ask in that thread if anyone else is interested. If someone is and the mods make you a thread, you get 30 extra points.

message 515: by Jenn (new)

Jenn (engelsigh) | 1339 comments Can I ask if it is something I already finished during TT Reads 3? Or does it have to be something I haven't finished? I would like to discuss the Namesake with someone.

message 516: by [deleted user] (new)

Jenn ~ Nemirdis wrote: "Can I ask if it is something I already finished during TT Reads 3? Or does it have to be something I haven't finished? I would like to discuss the Namesake with someone."

I have no idea lol I think they want it to be something you are reading at the moment, otherwise people would be going back through all the completed buddy reads and just adding comments to the threads to get points. But really I don't know since yours is so recent. Wait for a mod or someone more familiar with Tower Teams to answer.

message 517: by Kristie (new)

Kristie | 3595 comments Jenn- Typically people suggest books that they would like to read, then read them at the same time as the people they are discussing the book with, so you discuss as you read. I don't think there are rules against reading it first, but I don't know that either.

I just wanted to note that I have finally finished a book!! Woot! It is not on my shelf yet because I'm on my mobile, bit I'll take care of it in the morning. I need some sleep!!

Christine | 0 comments I just signed up for the BR for The Rosie Project scheduled to start December 15.

message 519: by Kristie (new)

Kristie | 3595 comments Will you be joining us for The Rosie Effect in January too?

Which reminds me, Logan, we changed the date of The Rosie Effect from November to Jan 7th.

message 520: by ~Melissa~ (new)

~Melissa~ Woohoo - I finished my BR of Little Lies by Liane Moriarty it was fabulous - my first by this author. 4.5 ♥'s rounded up on GR to 5 :D
I have The Husband's Secret by Liane Moriarty that I'm totally looking forward to now. Not sure when I'll get to it.

message 521: by Logan (new)

Logan (loganturner) | 1643 comments From what I've seen the only requirement for the buddy reads is to discuss the book - when you finish the book is up to you. Having already finished a book may make it a tougher sell, however, to find someone to discuss it with. But it doesn't hurt anything to put it up on the thread - it's possible there are a bunch of people waiting to read it!

I was fairly active on the buddy read thread before the challenge, and it always surprised me that no matter what book it was, there was ALWAYS someone willing to read it. I think that's the benefit of having such a large group.

message 522: by Logan (new)

Logan (loganturner) | 1643 comments I did another round of book checks and it all looks great, except for two things:

~Melissa~, Big Little Lies wasn't tagged on your TT shelf;

Taryn, the date read wasn't entered on Harry Potter.

FYI, we have about 1,000 points and we're closing in on the first week. If that turns out to be the average for most teams, we'd be on pace to finish the challenge in 20 weeks (though I doubt it will go that long).

message 523: by [deleted user] (new)

Oh opps okay! I'll fix it.

I will fix that now - oops!

message 527: by Logan (new)

Logan (loganturner) | 1643 comments Awesome! So that means I'm up to date on book checks, still need to confirm all BR discussions.

I'm also going to update the BR thread on the main page.

I posted a link to our points thread on the main page as well.

I'm not sure yet - I'll have to see how January looks as far as time is concerned once it gets closer. I hope so! :-)

message 529: by [deleted user] (new)

I looked through my read and reading list and realized I am totally using this challenge as an excuse to catch up on all the fantasy reads I've never had time for (and a couple that I've been meaning to reread forever). I am reading nothing but fantasy right now....and I'm a classics gal...this is an excuse for me to enter more reading challenges and say, "Just broadening my horizons!"

message 530: by Kristie (new)

Kristie | 3595 comments I'm really enjoying this. I feel like all my reading is suddenly important. :)

I joined another buddy read. What Alice Forgot on Jan 11th.

You guys are killing me with the fantasy reads. I wish I had time to do all of them!

Logan (loganturner) | 1643 comments Christine wrote: "I just signed up for the BR for The Rosie Project scheduled to start December 15."

Do any of you have a link to this BR? Or have the mods not set it up yet? I couldn't find it on the BR list. If they haven't set it up, you may want to give them a nudge on that thread.

message 535: by Logan (new)

Logan (loganturner) | 1643 comments FYI, I'm going out of town this weekend, so my check-ins and check-ups may be delayed/limited. I've updated the spreadsheet and BRs to here. We'll be doing our first check-in on Sunday so we'll be able to see how we stack up against the other teams.

message 536: by ~Melissa~ (new)

~Melissa~ I've joined more BR's for Dec and have to switch one to Jan but I put them all on our Spreadsheet and will add links as they start. Do you want them here also, Logan?

message 537: by Logan (new)

Logan (loganturner) | 1643 comments GOOD NEWS! ALERT! RULE CHANGE!

The mods have decided that the points given to buddy reads and BOM participation will be THE SAME AT 30 POINTS.

I think this only affects Taryn so far, but keep that in mind going forward. You will still get 40 points for writing questions, but if you want to participate in current/old BOM posts those will now count the same as a BR. So hop on in!

message 538: by Logan (new)

Logan (loganturner) | 1643 comments PS - I updated your points in the spreadsheet, Taryn. I also updated the points breakdown in our spreadsheet.

I don't need links here, but if you just tell me which ones you're doing, I'll add them to the first page. I don't know that it's useful, but I like seeing the list of all the buddy reads we're doing in one place. :)

I'm not sure. Logan or Sonia would need to answer but I think you would have to do a discussion of it somewhere?? Maybe????

My reading might slow down a little now :( Got thesis edits back and now have to prepare for my defense. I got a lot of things on audiobook so I can listen while I work (I have to multitask anyway or else I'd go crazy). But in case I go a little AWOL just wanted to cheer everybody on and say I'm having a great time.

Elves of Deep Shadow kick butt! Everyone is doing such a great job!!! It's our avatars ;)

Yes, but as with old BRs, you need to interact with someone. Usually there are people with notifications still on the thread that may pop in and talk, but it's probably best to find another buddy just in case.
