Review: When one of Sookie's co-workers is murdered and left in a police detective's car, whom Sookie knows didn't do it, she feels she needs to help clear him. However before she even starts looking she is attacked in the woods near home by a supernatural beast. Near death she is saved by vampires and in their debt, no a good thing. When they ask for a favor she ends up in trouble in Dallas. Several plots intertwine to make a satisfy addition to the series. More of the rules and world of the supernatural are explained. Good story.

Review: Dresden is in the winter court and recovering from injury. During his recovery, he is reminded daily of the fact that he is the winter knight and must do everything the lady says. But he is surprised with her request. He must kill an immortal to save all of Chicago and his daughter as well.
While Dresden is expecting to go this alone due to the danger of this, his friends have other ideas. Dresden finds out about the big secret that the winter court ensures is kept and meets again the "Gatekeeper" who plays a significant part.
Halloween is the only time all this can happen and of course that is very little time from now.
This one has great twists and turns and some surprises and has Dresden's brand of humor that I find very funny. Although there were a lot of characters in this one and it was a bit difficult to keep them straight, I really enjoyed Harry's character building and fight to stay his own man. Another enjoyable story...

Review - I want to take a moment to thank Sapphire Flames' amazon page, specifically the 'Customers who bought this item also bought' section. ;P I don't think I would have picked this book up if I'd stumbled across it any other way. S. Young is Samantha Young's new paranormal romance pen name. I actually read and loved On Dublin Street (5 star read too!). But thinking back on it... all I can remember is this uncomfortable, reader nauseating drama and angst. I don't read much new adult because that just isn't what I want when I read. I want my drama in the form of danger and magic and intrigue. I never continued on in the On Dublin Street series and honestly never planned to pick up that author again.... I loved War of Hearts. It was perfect for me. Thea was an amazing heroine, Conall was absolutely her equal as a hero and, uggghhhh, the story line and romance was SO GOOD. (There is definitely a good amount angst that I could personally have done without but it was very well done and very palatable with the paranormal backdrop.)
I highly recommend picking up the amazon sample, it includes the first four short chapters. It hooked me completely. I never buy self published hard copies but I'm eyeing the hardcover O.o

Review - Only six more books in the series before it's over!! ;( I really dragged this book out to prolong how much I'm loving the characters, world and story. I'm SO disappointed that I'm just now reading these for the first time. I love the anticipation of waiting for the next book to come out.
I won't talk story at all, honestly I think the summary gave too much away. I loved the book. It was sooo close to perfect for me but I'm very worried about the romance portion. I get very invested and want a couple to root for. I'm not a big fan of the YA trope in books where a hoard of men like the leading lady and she has to decide. I'm afraid that's where this series will be going.

This coming Wednesday could be a winning shelf call for us! Military, Fae, Free Space, Tortured Hero and Auto Buy.

Book: Fire Touched by Patricia Briggs
Series: Mercy Thompson #9
How it Fits: On the first page of the Popular Fae books - #46 on the list
350 pages
Rating: 4 stars
Read: 11/30/19
Review: When The Pack is called to stop a rampaging Troll escaped from the Fae, Adam, Mercy and the rest of the pack find themselves confronted also by a boy running from the Fae. They destroy the Troll and take on the boy despite opposition on all side. Beside protecting him from danger and kidnapping they find he is fire touched, a constant threat for burning everything around him. Most of the Fae have hidden ulterior motives and trying to create a neutral territory that can hold humans, fae and werewolves is not easy. Lots of action and adventure, slowed slightly by the need for constant explanations about the true motives and powers associated with new characters.

Review: Sophie Lundgren met Sam Kelly when he was undercover investigating her father, an unscrupulous arms runner. When he gets a tip about a deal going down he takes off and doesn't look back. Sophie makes her bid for freedom from her father and takes off with a key to his fortune and secrets. Then her uncle takes over and comes after her for the key and Sophie finds out she is pregnant. After 5 months of running she decides to go to Sam for protection. Soon Sam is trying to save her, his unborn child and his whole family from annihilation. This is a fast paced, suspense-filled thriller, well written, with a bevy of brothers all waiting for their own story.
I'm all caught up. Yeah!

Book - Escaping from Houdini by Kerri Maniscalco
Shelf - Immortals (Alternative Reader's Choice Option - Book by an author with L, M or N in first or last name)
Pages - 416 pages
Date Read - Dec 2
Rating - 3 stars
Review - I am super disappointed that Escaping from Houdini has been my least favorite in the series so far. I love isolated settings - we're stuck on a ship making its way to America in this one. I love troupe casts, especially circuses - a murderer is killing people in tarot-style deaths using the circus' shows to exhibit them. Sounds exciting and unique! Too bad our daring heroine had little to no brain cells and took so many steps back in character growth. She was basically useless the entire book. At one part she decides it's a good idea to be blind folded and participate in a behind-the-scene knife throwing act because 'it might help her solve the case to have first hand knowledge'. Really? Watching him throw knives several times isn't enough? Instead you're going to be nearly alone with the man you think murdered a women and then repeatedly stabbed her? I wanted to shake Audrey Rose the entire book. She repeatedly hurt Thomas. She made terrible choices. She did nothing to move the case forward. Had this been the first book, I would never have picked up another.
I did still enjoy the murder-y portions of the book and Liza and Thomas and Mrs. Harvey were fantastic.

I have picked out my book, should it be called.
If not ours then it is likely to be a shelf that will have a potential BINGO. There are a lot of teams waiting, although some have shelves to catch up. But there are a few that are up to date. Game is going to be over soon.

Rating: 4 stars
Review: Ryland Miller and his team of soldiers have volunteered to be involved in a military experiment to enhance psychic powers and create a new special forces team. But his team members are dying in very strange ways. Lily Whitney has been asked by her father to consult on this experiment to see if she can help to reverse the damages. But more death comes to the people involved with the experiment and Lily must struggle on alone to find the answers.
She realizes that she must put a stop to the experiments and help the men cope with their new abilities while also getting the people in charge to admit the wrong doing.
This was a good book and highly recommended to people interested in books containing the expansion of the psychic abilities in man.
