Shannon, if you like Neil Gaiman, you should try "American Gods". That was the first book I read by him and I felt the same way you did. I will be reading more from him. They adapted a television series from it too.

The Graveyard Book by Neil Gaiman is a favorite of mine :-) I plan to finally read American Gods this year.
I'm currently reading a couple of J.R. Ward books plus The Long Walk by Stephen King. Yesterday I got a used copy of The Bad Place in the mail so I'll be reading that soon. :)

ELIJAH: A Suspense Novel I am rereading ELIJAH. Frank Redman wrote this under Dean Koontz's mentorship, and it's a great mix of suspense, humor, and the supernatural. It addresses the issue of human trafficking as well. Frank Redman is a brain cancer patient who was also the inspiration for ASHLEY BELL and had SAINT ODD dedicated to him.

That is fascinating. Hadn't heard that tidbit before. Might have to check out the book :-)

I am currently re-reading the Chaos Walking series by Patrick Ness. I recommend them. They are published by a children's book publisher but I would definitely categorize them more appropriate for teen/young adult due to the disturbing content. It's a trilogy set on New World and book one features a talking dog.
I'm currently reading The Key to Midnight, and I admit the female MC is driving me nuts. I'm not sure I like her, and it's not really anyone's fault. She's nuts, but she has no real reason to be, that she knows of, and for some reason that, and her attitude, is grating on me. *shrugs* I'm not halfway through it yet, so we'll see how I feel toward the end. My next book to read is March: Book One, which I'm reading for another book group.
Currently reading The Haunting of Hill House. Then it's on to Beyond the Ice Limit by Preston & Child.

Isn't The Haunting of Hill House a current group read in another group like Horror Afficionados or Stephen King Fans? I belong to those groups but rarely participate - the groups are a bit big for my taste but I'd like to read The Haunting of Hill House someday.

Have you read The House of Thunder or False Memory? Similar story elements. I do find The Key to Midnight intriguing in it's own way, taking into account when it was written in Dean Koontz's career.

I think I have only read a couple Preston/Child books. I might need to consider them in the future.

Ha, I needed a happy change and I am getting it. Although I find myself a bit embarrassed to post this on Koontzland---but then not really. Koontzland really is a "safe space". HA HA this one's for Matthew!

That's good :-) Sometimes I find myself needing a buffer - I have overdosed on Dean Koontz before.

Because I remember being terrified by that one! And I really connected with her more, than in this one, as I recall.
I haven't read House of Thunder... yet. It's on my shelf!

Read my review before you decide to read Hill House. Just saying.

Good Luck! :-) It's one of Dean's lengthier novels & one that is always a tough one for me to get through. I'm planning to finish this week & start Sole Survivor as soon as I do.

This one gripped me right away! The only thing holding me back, is that I'm also reading How to Write Best Selling Fiction right now too.
Sole Survivor was good. I read that several years ago.

The Hound of Baskerville. Since I've seen the movies and watch the TV series Elementary the characters all have voices. I am reading a Sherlock Holmes audio book. LOL

I am starting
by Brian Coffey. We know him as Dean Koontz. It always makes my day when I can purchase one of his early works for a decent price. Do people actually pay the crazy amounts I see for older books?
Dustin Crazy little brown owl wrote: "I'm currently reading Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil :-)"Good one. A rarity in that I liked the book and the movie.

That said, I own almost none of his books from the 1960's and haven't looked up the prices for them yet.
I just bought his first book on writing for about $20.00 on Amazon. How to Write Popular Fiction.
His second writing book is over $150.00 so I've not made that purchase, but am debating it as an expensive birthday present to myself, which will likely not happen this year. lol. I'm only considering it because the book is actually very good. But I did take notes when I read a library copy recently. :-)

I just cannot spent that kind of money for a book especially his early works. Those books are more like novellas instead of novels. There is something wrong with the pricing system when a 160 page used book is over $100. I would understand if it was autographed or a collectible. For now, I will just have to keep on checking and hope I get lucky and find his early works for a practical price.
Jim wrote: "Jordan wrote: "Jim wrote: "I am starting

So, not all of his stuff is over $100. I agree, that high price is ridiculous. the writing book went as high as over $1,000.00 the last time I checked too. But $35 is totally doable.
The problem is that these books are now seen as "collectible" by fans willing to pay a lot of money for something that's pretty much rare and out of print.
