Tony Sunderland | 328 comments I have had only one ‘dream revelation’. This occurred about eight years ago and actually inspired me to get out of bed at 3 AM and write it down. Put simply, I realised that there may indeed be progressive plan for humanity as bequeathed to us through evolution. There may also be a superior intelligence that permeates the universe and that this divine presence exists in all living things. Like the ancient heretical dream of illumination, this pantheist vision of the divine rests upon the idea of evolution as a progressive and natural force that will ultimately result in the perfection of humanity—the Omega point and the perfect squaring of the circle. The most ‘evolved’ component of a pantheist vision of the divine resides within the human mind and is independent of the confines of linear space and time. I now realise that this revelation is by no means unique and that it is probably at the heart of most enlightened spiritual traditions. For me it was a personal ‘wakeup call’.

An enduring theme that permeates Freemasonry, the ancient mystery religions and even some of the more abstract doctrines of Christianity is the search for the ‘God within’. This makes any attempt to understand the divine a personal journey inwards which is mediated by each person through their own thoughts and actions. This pantheistic vision of religious belief negates any conception of an external god that rules over all things. Existentially, all a person really has is themself and their intrinsic bond to humanity. Any quest of illumination is a personal journey and ultimately one that is taken alone. This premise would obviously be frightening to people who see the divine as a protector and guide in life, and also a pathway to paradise in death. It is not surprising that a pantheistic image of religious belief has been almost universally rejected by mainstream Christian faiths where man is made in the image of God but will never be God.

However, exponential improvements in technology and the advent of new virtual and augmented realities now place humanity in the position creating our own sacred geometry; a digital universe bounded only by the mathematical ‘code’ of the machine – a matrix of artificial perfection. Our intelligent design copied from the natural code of creation.... The result ….I now research and write about it!

What if space, time and even reality are interdependent. As Richard Dawkins declares with regards to his ‘God hypothesis’:

“any creative intelligence, of sufficient complexity to design anything, comes into existence only as the end product of an extended process of gradual evolution. Creative intelligences, being evolved, necessarily arrive late in the universe, and therefore cannot be responsible for designing it. God, in this sense defined, is a delusion and, as later chapters will show, a pernicious delusion”.

Ironically, Dawkins in his comprehensive dismissal of organised religion as a man-made construct may have given us a pathway for the ultimate perfection of humanity. Dawkins is a strong believer in evolution as a process where organisms become increasingly complex over time. This premise infers that evolution is not only adaptive to different environments but that it is also a progressive force increasing in complexity towards some form of material perfection. Charles Darwin himself boldly proclaimed that ‘natural selection works solely by and for the good of each being, all corporal and mental endowments will tend to progress towards perfection’.

If as Einstein suggests, time itself is relative, then what we achieve in this life impacts on events across space and time. This idea may give further credence to Teilhard’s vision of a spiritual faith that purses perfection at the omega point. When Einstein was told of the death of a close friend, he replied: ‘Now he has departed from this strange world a little ahead of me. That signifies nothing. For us believing physicists, the distinction between the past, present and future is only a stubbornly persistent illusion’. (Hence the sense of déjà vu and the presence of Jung’s archetypes over time B)
Einstein also invokes Spinoza as his guiding light in his pursuit of a form of spirituality that does not compromise either his own values or the laws of science. He gives us a form of pantheism that expresses a belief in a divine presence that exists outside of our current understanding of material reality. In this worldview, there is absolutely no place for the incarnation of a singularly divine and human Jesus as the supernatural saviour of humanity. For Einstein, the divine exists in the superior and mysterious works of nature.

‘This firm belief, a belief bound up with deep feeling, in a superior mind that reveals itself in the world of experience, represents my conception of God. In common parlance this may be described as “Pantheistic” (Spinoza)’.

I've thought the same thing re Jordan Peterson, Tony. Quite like most of what he's saying, but also strongly sense he has gained some type of secret knowledge from somewhere (maybe he's a Freemason?) and tends to talk around in circles politician style whenever he's asked anything about spirituality or Man's ultimate origins...

https://now.northropgrumman.com/is-ou...
Are we living in a computer simulation? Is everything in our universe — from the smallest atom to the largest galaxy — nothing more than a computer science project on some omnipotent being’s hard drive? At first glance, the notion of simulated reality seems ludicrous, but consider advances humankind has already made in computer gaming, virtual reality and robotics. Are we inadvertently strengthening the case for simulation theory?
