message 103: by Tony (new)

Tony (paigetheoracle) Our consciousness is our consciousness, no matter how limited or extensive it is - without it we are just mindless zombies, wandering around aimlessly as in George Romero movies.

We could be actor's on somebody else's stage, directed by them, yes but it would be a co-production, with us as willing participants at some level as has been proposed elsewhere

James Morcan | 11378 comments This video covers one of the earliest expressions (at least in the Western tradition) of the matrix:

What is Gnosticism? | Stuff They Don't Want You to Know -- https://www.goodreads.com/videos/9756...

Outside of the West, the Hindus seem to be saying much the same (only many centuries earlier) with their sacred texts and the world of Maya being illusory.

So again, I ask: could the matrix be real?

James Morcan | 11378 comments Would the amazing technology shown in the video below be compatible with holograms? Can holograms be made to look like real humans in our everyday world?

New Software Set To Bend Reality (and create fake news reports?) https://www.goodreads.com/videos/1008...

If this technology is in the public domain now, how many years (or decades) has it existed within the classified arena??
Classified science is likely to be so far ahead of mainstream (known) science, that we probably couldn't even begin to imagine what's really going on...

So, again, I ask: Could the matrix be real?

Lisa, I totally agree with your description of atheism simply being a rejection of something for which there is no proof, therefore no reason to believe in. I do think that life and history offers far more proof of there not being a God. I say this after decades of being an evangelical Christian, and now a Naturalist~ one who believes that nothing exists outside the natural world.

message 111: by J.D. (new)

J.D. Lovil (jd_lovil) | 85 comments There is a philosophy that the world rides on the back of a giant turtle. When asked what supports the turtle that supports the world, one of the old gods said "It is turtles all the way down." There is no information as to whether said god may have been a rapper, hence the 'Yo!".

The world may not only be an illusion in holography, but it may also be an illusion within an illusion, in a series of illusionary regresses that extends infinitely. Who the heck knows?

Did it occur to you that the need to believe in a god may have been artificially built into our species? Do we have a Creator which is not a god?

message 113: by James, Group Founder (new) - added it

James Morcan | 11378 comments Oh yeah I remember the world being on the back of a turtle reference - but when you start rap you lose me JD!

A lot of ancient peoples, like the Hindus with their religious texts, and the Gnostics, appear to have believed this world was no real

So if that is true, then what is real???????

message 114: by J.D. (new)

J.D. Lovil (jd_lovil) | 85 comments James, it may be that we show a human bias in this and other subjects. If we set the baseline for reality to be whatever we see, then it is all real. If we use a baseline of solidity, then physics tells us that the world is not real under that definition.
We all think that we have Free Will, because we think that we make real choices in life. It only takes a moment's thought to realize that our experiences, natural proclivities, and circumstances determine the actual choices we make. That means that we have 'Functional' Free Will, meaning it feels free, but not actual Free Will. It is an illusion.
Our whole world consists of this sort of paradox. In the final analysis, it is the world we have. In the same way that Free Will can be Functional or real, is a functional universe real enough, or is it an illusion, because it is not made of the material we thought it was?

And that if you took all the matter in the entire universe it would be about the size of an orange...

Say what?
Did I hear this correctly or was even what I heard an illusion?

message 116: by J.D. (new)

J.D. Lovil (jd_lovil) | 85 comments It was an illusion, but it was a fine illusion. When Maya swirled her veils, and created the illusion of what you heard, she created some of her finest, even if illusionary, art. Just remember, before you reduce the universe to an illusionary orange, that you will also create an illusion of a powerful black hole, which will pull all of the illusions in this illusionary universe into some other illusionary place.

message 119: by Jim (new)

Jim (jimliedeka) The concept in the movie was closer to the Hindu/Buddhist idea of Maya.

Western mysticism (and Sufi) has the concept of several levels between God and the earthly realm. Each succeeding level is lower in frequency and higher in density. You see this in Gurjieff's lightning of creation, the Kabbalah's tree of life, Hermetism, Neoplatonism, and Gnosticism which hold similar ideas. It isn't that the world isn't real, per se. It's farther from God and therefore less real.

James Morcan | 11378 comments Undergrounder Harry Whitewolf returns with a book that states that the matrix is not only real, but that he's seen it in all its glory...

Matrix Visions

From the strange dark side of visionary spiritual conspiracy secrets, this poetic book of enigmas and brand new discoveries is much more than a collection of curious verse concoctions - Matrix Visions is a sneaky glimpse into the hypnotising matrix itself.

You’ll come across cryptic but plain poems like: The Malicious Magicians, Red Snake Rules, The Devil’s In The Detail, Alien Acupuncture and The 11:11. And you can discover hitherto untold secrets in: The Pentagon’s Hidden Half, Dollar Bill Devils And Dogs, The Secret Art History, The QR Code Code, How To Get A Face In Advertising and The Secret Sphinx, with plenty of picture examples along the way.

The red matrix is staring you right in the face. You just haven’t seen it yet.

Do you think anything exists that has not been proven? Are some things true that can't be proven? How did people live before formal "scientific proof" was invented?

The necessity of proof of anything and everything is simply one of those false beliefs given us by the controllers. It is necessary to keep us from waking up from the brainwash, waking up to 5D thinking, and most of all, from allowing the use of our newly developed intuitive capacity.

I've been learning how reality is created and to purposely effect my own. Each person has his personal reality, and they overlap, sharing large parts, by agreement. Thoughts, emotions, beliefs, intent and imaging create reality. Those are the elements that must be controlled in Matrix creation.

Existence of the Matrix has become obvious to many people now, if one defines it as what seems to be the ONLY reality, the same for everyone, with limited space, and lock step in time. Such a reality cannot exist, but is manufactured and controlled--taught to people who are brainwashed throughout their lives.

No worries, Rosalie, I know what you're saying and tend to agree.
I personally lean toward the matrix or something like it being real, but all I meant was usually guys like CEOs of major tech companies only comment when something is scientifically proven. So it's interesting they are commenting beforehand - perhaps they have confirmed the matrix is real in their own personal lives or perhaps by using their companies advanced gadgetry?

Rosalie DeGregory (rosaliedegregory) | 27 comments James Morcan wrote: "perhaps they have confirmed the matrix is real in their own personal lives or perhaps by using their companies advanced gadgetry?."

Or they may be part of the Matrix creators. Zuckerman stole the software for FB, the settlement for which was, I've forgotten, but some huge number for a young kid to be able to pay. Later he was offered billions for FB, and turned it down!

Also, FB is obviously a tool for gathering all information about a person that could be used to track them, were they to decide to drop out of the Matrix or need to hide from the controllers. FB wants to know everywhere they've lived or worked, everyone with whom they've ever been acquainted or connected by six degrees of freedom, what and how they think, so what groups they may contact.

My conclusion is that Zuckerman is a part of the Matrix controllers. I got off FB for awhile, but now, since the Matrix is already being dismantled, I'm back on.

message 137: by Harry (new)

Harry Whitewolf | 1745 comments The idea that we're living in a holographic universe has just stepped out of whacko-land and has been 'confirmed' by scientists!

From Yahoo News:

"The universe could turn out to be a "vast and complex hologram", meaning that life in 3D is an illusion, astrophysicists have said.

Researchers from the University of Southampton, working with colleagues from Canada and Italy, say they have found substantial evidence of a holographic universe - an idea first suggested in the 1990s.

They reached their conclusion after investigating irregularities in the cosmic microwave background - otherwise known as the "afterglow" of the Big Bang.

Evidence for the theory matches more traditional explanations in strength, they have said.

Thus, what we think of as our 3D world may be an illusion.

Professor of mathematical sciences at Southampton, Kostas Skenderis, said it was similar to watching a 3D film in the cinema.

While we perceive the pictures as having height, width and depth, they do in fact come from a flat screen.

In a 3D universe, Professor Skenderis said, the difference is that we are able to touch objects, and the "projection" appears to be "real", even though it could be an illusion.

He also compared the idea to the "hologram on a credit card ... however, this time, the entire universe is encoded".

"Holography is a huge leap forward in the way we think about the structure and creation of the universe," Professor Skenderis added.

"Einstein's theory of general relativity explains almost everything large scale in the universe very well, but starts to unravel when examining its origins and mechanisms at quantum level.

"Scientists have been working for decades to combine Einstein's theory of gravity and quantum theory.

"Some believe the concept of a holographic universe has the potential to reconcile the two.

"I hope our research takes us another step towards this.""

Harry Whitewolf | 1745 comments O.K, so this is a blatant plug for my book Matrix Visions but I do find it very interesting that those astrophysicists in the article above actually said "While we perceive the pictures as having height, width and depth, they do in fact come from a flat screen" because the universe actually being flat is a core element of my book.

Some of us already know we're living in a holographic matrix of course. But it's good to see the scientists are catching up. ;)

Virtual immortality: an atheist heaven.....
Could it be possible, in a bizarre and ironic twist, to create an atheist heaven on earth? Those who do not believe in an afterlife may wish at some stage to plug in to a virtual world where their mind escapes the mortality of the body. This virtual world would be dynamic because more and more people’s minds would enter it. The world would grow with people and expand with new technology applied over time. It could be possible for someone who enters the virtual world to have relationships with their great-great-grandchildren as they in turn transition from the material to the virtual. The virtual world would be there to serve the needs of the individual mind that is fully aware of the artificial but dynamic nature of his or her virtual life. It would be the job of those living in the real world to support the immortal lives of their deceased companions.

our universe has performed since the Big Bang — basically, every event that has ever happened. To repeat them, and generate a perfect facsimile of reality down to the last atom, would take more energy than the universe has.

The computer would have to be bigger than the universe, and time would tick more slowly in the program than in reality

“So why even bother building it?”
