HOW TO PLAY:
Aim: Be the first team to finish with the highest points, to win.
Disclaimer: It is easier to play than it is to explain. Read ahead, but don't worry too much if it all seems complicated. You'll get the hang real quick!
The RLftCI Mods (aka, The Bouncers :-p ) have made a few changes since the third round, so to get up to speed, here's How it works:

The Timing:
1. The game will last approximately 6 weeks from the first song being called. Sign-ups are now open HERE. When signing-up, please SUBMIT FIVE SONGS. (Yes, if you are excited to get your foot in the door now, you may tell us later, but please note #2 below.) These may be any songs that have been in the top 50; songs from the 60s until today may be used. If you could provide the link to the YouTube video, or an on-line site listing the lyrics, or both, that would be wonderful, but not mandatory. Sign-ups will close on the January 22nd. Songs MUST be in English.
2. Closer to the start date, and once you've posted your songs, you will be sent an Event Invitation from the DJs asking you to confirm your place in the game. You will NOT be told your Team assignment until you have replied to this event invite. Cut-off for confirmations are the January 22nd.
3. Teams will be formed and Team Threads will be up by the January 22nd. (No secret groups necessary for this Team Challenge.) This will give you a couple of days to meet you other Team Members and make GRs friends with your Team Captain. You can also choose a Team name, if you wish, as long as it includes your assigned color.
The first song will be posted on Sunday, the 25th of January 2015.
Now that we have the beat, get your dancing shoes ready!!

The Venue:
4. Once the sign-up thread is closed, we will randomly appoint Teams based on the number of members who requested to play. Each Team will be given their own Team thread (AKA The Venue) for general chatter, Team strategy, choosing books, discussing links, and posting your review for each week. It is understood that ALL members will post AT LEAST ONCE A WEEK on your Team's venue to keep your Team updated on your reading progress.
5. Once all Team Members have signed into their venue, they will need to make sure they are friends with their Team Captain and/or Co-Captains. The role of the Captain/Co-Captain is to keep track of the group's progress, scores, and to communicate the weekly song to Team Members. Each Team will be a different colour for scoring purposes, so choosing a Team name is optional this round.
If Team Dancers have NOT visited their venues and made friends with their Captain/Co-Captains, by Monday, the 26th of January, they will be replaced.

The Music:
5. For Round III there will be the new addition of a Jukebox from which a shortlist of six (6) popular songs will be selected. These are a collection of the five songs that EVERYONE submitted upon signing-up.
6. For the Playlist, the Team finishing first will select three (3) songs; the Team finishing second will select two (2) songs; the Team finishing third will select one (1) song. We will then post the title, artist, year of release, a link to the lyrics, and the YouTube video(if available), in the Now Playing thread. For the first two weeks only, the DJs will post a list of possible links between your book choice and that week's song. This will affect your individual score as outlined below. After Week 2, only the shelf will be linked.
7. The Teams who finished first, second, and third from Week #1 will get to choose the Playlist of six (6) songs from the Jukebox for Week #3. The first and second to finish for Week #2, will choose for Week #4, as so on. However, the choosers will do so only by seeing the shelf pertaining to the songs available, NOT the name of the song, etc. For the first two weeks of play, the Mods will submit the shortlist and the final song. Again, any songs that have been in the top 50 from the 60s to today can be used. Songs MUST be in English.
Now we're ready for...

The Score:
8. Individual points that the players would accrue through the competition each week:
(by link to song)Shelf = 1 point - (only the shelf linked under that week's song counts)9. Team points accrued when ALL players finish Read, Rate, & Review posts each week:
Cover = 2 points - (item on the cover links to the title, video clip or lyrics)
Plot = 3 points - (one of the plot points links to the song)
Title = 4 points - (song title & book title have matching key words {i.e. not a preposition})
Name = 5 points - (first or last name of author, artist or character matches)
Setting = 6 points - (first published date matches release date or place matches lyrics)
(by finish date)1 Day after song post = 7 points10. Bonus Album Title or Item Points:
2 days after... = 6 pts
3 days after... = 5 pts
4 days after... = 4 pts
5 days after... = 3 pts
6 days after... = 2 pts
7 days after... = 1 pts
8 or more days after... = 0 pts
(1 point per player)
Instead of an occasional “bonus word,” some weeks (43 total), we will include an album cover connection. To earn an extra individual point for that week, find something on the album cover that connects with your book. It could be a word, or an item on the album cover and the bookcover. If it is a word, post the page number/ ebook location along with the quote, at the bottom of your review. If it is an item, be sure to explain.
We mods have discussed it and decided you may choose two (2) categories from which to accumulate points.
Still, within each category you will only get one match. So, if you have two names that match two in the the "name" category, you would only get five (5) points, not ten (10).
EXAMPLE ONLY. Player Review & Points
♬ Week 1 Song: "The Safety Dance" - Men Without Hats (1982)
Book: A Long Way Down, by Nick Hornby
Rating: ★★★★★
Finished: Jan. 27, 2015
Review: This was an unexpected surprise. The cover doesn't do the book any favours but once I started reading, the characters hooked me right in. I'm not usually a fan of the suicide attempts, but this book broke the mold and pulled at the heartstrings. Love the bonding of the characters.
*Link: SHELF - Humorous
*Names: Ivan & Colin
Individual points for this player:
[shelf (1) + names (5)] = 6

The Moves:
11. Players must find a book that can link to the song and read it before the end of the week. Team members may all read the same book, all read different books, or somewhere in between. It's all good, as long as you can reference HOW the book links to the song.
12. Book choices: Any genre is allowed. Re-reads older than 6 months only. Books must have more than 150 pages. If Goodreads does not have a page count for your book (eg. new ebooks with little publisher info), you must choose ANOTHER book. Let your Team know what book you will be reading and what the link is to the song. You may certainly ask for help from your Teammates in how your book connects to the current song; however, please do NOT expect your Team Captain to figure out the link for you, nor leave it for them to figure out.
13. If your book doesn't fit any of the above criteria, one of the bouncers will let you know in your Team thread. Please assume you can start the book unless you get told otherwise.
14. When Team Members finish their book for the week, they must rate and give a minimum-2-sentence REVIEW saying what they liked or disliked about the book. See an example here.
15. When ALL team members have finished, Team Captains head to the Hey Ms. DJ thread and request for the music to be turned up :-) When one of The Bouncers have verified the song completion, your Team's Dance Card will be groovified, and your Team score posted for that week. The Team with the highest score, WINS THE GAME and enters the Dance Party Hall-of-Fame!!!
Think you've got it? Oh, just one last thing...

Q #1: The Playlist will consist of 6 songs and will be posted on Thursday evening, and the weekly song will be one on those. But it won't be announced until Sunday? Then, we can not start reading early, right?
A #1: Correct. This gives you time to strategize. So, no, as you can see, you can NOT start reading until Sunday of each week, as you will not know the song called. However, you may take as long as you like to complete your book. Nevertheless, your Team’s Dance Card will NOT be “groovified” (updated) until all Team Dancers have completed the books for that week’s song.

Good question, Melissa. We Mods are going to go with the official video whenever possible. However, sometimes there just isn't one. In these cases, we'll use live concerts or one we consider the best to of the lot. We are making a jukebox, which will (eventually) link you to the video we are using for images, covers, themes, etc.

Thanks! I found that with at least two of the ones I picked there were no music videos so I linked to ones that were either concert footage or seemed to look the best of the lot.

I have no rhythm. ; )

This helped tremendously, LK! It's like a theme challenge on steroids. Fun, fun, fun! Thanks for the link!

Can I get a clarification on the "Setting" points? I understand the date aspect, but the "Place matching the lyrics" has me thinking too hard. Maybe it's just ridiculously early. ; )
If the lyrics state "USA" and the book is set in Houston, Texas, would that work?
OR
My book is set in a fantasy world and the video contains clips from The Hobbit. Can the video content be used for the Setting, or does it go under the Cover category instead? Or is "Fantasy World" to vague to begin with?
Sorry to be so "out there." I haven't had my morning tea.

As far as The Hobbit, that would be on an individual book basis, determined jointly by the Mods. We would look at the Fantasy world of the book in question and compare it to The Hobbit book. If, however, it was set in New Zealand, where the movie was filmed then, yes, it would count.

Also, A Song in Stone for Stone Temple Pilots match

2}in the shelf do I have to find a book that connects to the song or any book from shelf can be used.

It hasn't been done before, but the mods are discussing it. Whatever is decided Dancing Queen will let you know.

Thanks.

*slinks away quietly*

Teresa...The Martian is on that list. ; ) I did a mental backflip when I found it! Obviously, I haven't read it yet.

Another question for mods: If one were to read "Republic of Thieves" by Scott Lynch would it count for the "Name" (One Republic)category? No
Also, would "Angela" count for "Angel"? No
For "Interstate Love Song"D. I was thinking Betraying the Highwayman The Ladies of Deception book #3. (has both lies and Interstate connection).
Also, A Song in Stone for Stone Temple Pilots match No
Rule : The words in title of the song should match the title/series of the book for the title point to count , and singer/band name should match the name of the characters or the author for the name point to count.
Does this rule answer your questions , Chris ?

You don't have to but you can . You'll get 1 point for choosing a book from the shelf given.

Thanks I had forgotten about that. Unfortunately I'm not a fast reader so I'm gonna suck for my team on that one.

for example
♬"I See Fire" - Ed Sheeran (2013)

Published June 4th 2013
I See Fire
Released 5 November 2013
Fire Inside (Chaos #2)by Kristen Ashley 2013

Setting = 6 points - (first published date matches release date or place matches lyrics)
Do we have to match the exact date or month or year ?
please can anybody clarify?
