The Blood of Olympus
question
Was anyone else angry?

When Percy had no point of view in this book and was pretty much non existent during the whole book?

Like I get that Rick put some Nico and Reyna chapters, So maybe he thought the book would seem to cramped with too many narrators, but I thought we should have had Percy chapters because A) He's pretty much the main character of the whole series, B) That kid literally escaped hell,he would have went through some kind of post-traumatic stress, C) The whole series began with Percy. The fact that he was barely in the book frustrated the hell out of me. I get he practically narrated the entirety of House of Hades, but I at the very least would have liked a few chapters of him reuniting with his friends at Camp-Half Blood.
I just composed a scathing review - sorry. I was so ready to love this book, but the conclusion left me feeling frustrated, extremely disappointed, and cheated. The plot was confusing, the points of view jumped around with no apparent pattern, and Percy Jackson, the hero we've followed for years, has a pathetic role. I understand that "they're a team; he's not the main character", etc, but the same argument can be applied to the overwhelming influence from Jason, Piper, and Leo. They suddenly dominate the team, bailing the other demigods out of situations in which the others are helpless. It's ridiculous.
Additionally, Leo dies. Nico confirms that he is dead, and yet the other demigods don't seem terribly affected. They have a highly unrealistic reaction to the death of one of their closest friends. It's bizarre, as is Leo's magical resurrection of himself, which seems a little fantastic. Which brings me to my third point - Leo. Throughout the entire series, Leo is a joking, relatively shallow character. Suddenly, he becomes thoughtful and overly mature; it's almost like the author wrote about reader's expectations for Leo rather than an actual, sensical character transformation.
The ending is also cliché and horrible. It's gag-worthy and weak. There is not much else to be said for it.

@Maddie
1:No one is saying he should’ve been the main character of every book. We are saying he as well Annabeth, Hazel, and Frank deserved more important roles in the last book.
2: The Seven IS a team! So why was It just Leo, Piper, and Jason at the end and through the entire book? The other 4 were completely excluded and we all were disappointed!
3: Okay Nobody is mad at Jason for saving Percy! We are mad because that happened in Percy’s domain! It made Percy look weak! You would’ve acted the same way if Jason was saved by Percy in the sky! It makes no sense and I would agree with you! But It was completely ridiculous and really stupid because obviously Percy should’ve had the upper hand and It idiotic that Jason saved Percy in the water!
4: If you actually read the Percy Jackson series you would know what kind of character Annabeth Chase is! She most likely would’ve had a meltdown after Tartarus, but it would not happen when she was on a mission! Her character has been built that way and when she broke down in the cave, It felt as if we were reading a different character altogether! The only time Annabeth ever cried in a mission was when something broke her heart not EVER at of fear! Annabeth Chase is a strong character who knows how to deal with fear, pain, loneliness, etc. Yes, she can freak out, but to completely shut down and want to run away in absolute fear is not Annabeth Chase at all!
5:??? What were you even writing🤣🤣🤣? Okay Yes, Nico been through Tartarus by himself but does that take away Annabeth and Percy adventure? And don’t forget Nico said he was captured immediately and was escorted out of there! He didn’t ever see Tartarus' body and It is unclear if he ever met Nyx! But He still went through Tartarus and that is very impressive! Just as Percy and Annabeth adventure through Tartarus is impressive!
6; I just find your last comment laughable! You are so hypocritical! Okay, you say they are a team of seven but Percy doesn’t deserve a part? Honestly, that makes no sense! Like sorry that Rick put him in three books but doesn’t mean he should be completely excluded from the last/most important book of series where they go against Gaea! All of the 7 should’ve gotten a chance to speak as they ALL did in House of Hades! We wouldn’t have cared that Jason, Piper, or Leo talked more IF the rest of 4 got at least one chance to speak!

What happened!!!!! Where was Percy! Where was Hazel! They just disappeared! It's like Rick did this
Rick: Ok so I'm going to bring Percy out of hell now.
Percy Fans: Okay! :)
Rick: And make him completely non-existent in the final book of this series.
Percy Fans: Wait what?
Rick: You know that final book to the series we all love so dearly?
Percy Fans: Yeah.
Rick: You know that character that you love so much and want to make sure he and Annabeth are okay and all?
Percy Fans: Yeah....
Rick: Well, neither him or annabeth will be in this book, and where they are going to be in it, they'll be weak and utterly useless. And while we're at it, why not just pluck Frank and Hazel out of the book too? Okay that's about it, bye now.
Or something like that.

I've been waiting for months for this book, and I was so excited to read it. In the first few chapters, all I thought was " where's Percy's point of view" and i thought oh its okay cause he's gonna have a part in the end, but then until the last page... what happened? No percy. and I totally ship percabeth, and so when there is a percabeth moment i wanna know it from their point of view, how they feel it, and not from a bystander. Besides, Percy and Annabeth have just survived Tartarus, the most dark and terrifying place. So, I want to know how they recover from that traumatic experience, but no, in the book they seem to be just fine, no problem, as if nothing happened. I mean, how can you be okay right after visiting Hell? Also, i was expecting the seven will fight Gaia together, not like this where Jason Piper and Leo fight her, while Percy Annabeth Frank and Hazel are fighting some... monsters? I don't even know, it wasn't clearly mentioned. they definitely didn't have enough part here. Aren't they supposed to fight together? Again, there's no Hazel and Frank point of view too. However, i love all the Reyna and Nico part, they're a great team, and I also totally love Reyna's character. In this book we learn much about her past, her fears, and her strength, and that makes me really respect her. Leo's part is great too. It is annoying that he didn't directly tell his friends that he's alive, but the whole love story with Calypso, its just so sweet. The only thing that i don't understand is that for Calypso to leave the island with Leo, doesn't she needs permission first?
I loved all the Reyna/Nico moments that were so cute. And so was the Hades and Nico moment.
BUT PERCY HAS BEEN THE MAIN CHARACTER! AND LIKE EVERYONE SHIPS PERCABETH!!! WHERE WAS IT.
***sobs*** but at least they get a good education, right?

What disappoints me more is that this was the last book. I do not know what it is. Is Rick running out of ideas about Greek or Roman mythology adventures? Or does he think they are just getting old. We all love Percy and the rest of the main characters and I don't think there would be a decline in interested readers if Rick created a third Percy Jackson series.
2019
Okay I am annoyed right now, here is why
1. Percy is not the center of the universe. He doesn't need to be the main character in every book.
2. The seven is a team, not just Percy, he is NOT the leader.
3. OH NO! Percy got rescued by Jason! We will now all hate Jason for saving Percy's life. How DARE Jason not let Percy die.
4. News Flash! If you have been to hell and back, you are going t have emotional problems. It would be unrealistic if Annabeth didn't break down once.
5. "But Percy/Annabeth...they've been through Tartarus! They've been through things that no other demigod ever has been through." Wait, I thought Nico went through Tartarus too, by himself.
6. We have already had 3 book in in the HoO that have Percy in it, he doesn't need more.

In the past year I have changed my answer. I, for one, love Jason, Leo, and Piper, BUT, i now agree that Rick definitely needed more of everyone else. I was wrong in 2019. I guess I was just annoyed by some of my friends who hate everyone except Percy. Thank you for pointing out my stupid mistakes Rich.

HE SCREWED OVER THE FIRST AND THE LAST BOOK BY NOT HAVING PERCY, WHY RICK, WHYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY
People are getting angry that Percy nor Annabeth had their own chapters, but you have to remember, Percy has already had his own series! And plus, the first book was literally introducing new demigods so, the whole series isn't going to be about the same demigods that pretty much had their own series. And you people aren't satisfied that Percabeth just basically owned The House of Hades?
I was very disappointed because both Percy and Annabeth didn't even get one chapter. Obviously they're not the main characters, but they just went through Tartarus and back, and not writing them a POV is just weak writing in my opinion. If he couldn't voice their thoughts, I feel like he just isn't up to some standards. I absolutely love the PJO series but the HoO series was really just a let down. I wish that Frank and Hazel had more chapters in their perspective because it should be evenly spread out. Atleast in HoH every one of the seven had a POV, even if it wasn't very long. I know that a lot of people will say that it's not all about Percabeth, but we've been with them for ages and because they didn't get any chapters really upset me.

The book was WAY too happy. I know when characters die everyone cries, but that is what makes the book real.
When I read the final book I just about skipped some parts of the book because sorry to let everyone know but Percy is the main reason I read the series he makes it good enough to read
"Disappontment" one word to describe the Book after waitnig for a year now.....A. No Percy's POV B. Percy has been sidelined C.I thought Gods would acknowledge the Demigods for their Bravery and all D. Octavian gets to be a hero at the END as a noble sacrifice....list goes on.
I was disappointed, but mainly because I really wanted his perspective about Nico's confession to him. I think everyone's dissapointment stems from the fact that Jason really had no personality or depth up until his scene with Nico in House of Hades, and Percy is completely fleshed-out. We should be lucky that he was a main character in this series as well; when it was first announced I though he would be relegated to the background.
My thoughts on this subject very I loved this book the POV does not bother me in the least because the arc of this book needs the characters where they are. A Percy POV would have been just a different take on the scenes he was in which would have muddled them as the focus was on how the prophecy ends. You need to see things from the specific characters to understand why Leo does what he does at the end. Now do I think that after Gaea is defeated he could have had a small chapter for each character sure or for each of the remaining "Ships" plus Reyna and Nico Sure. That would have caused a bigger drag to get to the pay off with Leo and Calypso. As "But Percy is the main Character" he had a whole series this was a combo of Greek and Roman together be glad he went straight to this and did not do a just Roman series first because it would have been just a different POV of the Percy series. I would have still read it but am glad he did it this way. Now on to Norse Mythology!!
The book left me really disappointed. I don't understand why there wasn't a Percy or Annabeth POV, and I was really annoyed that Percy basically got downgraded to comedic relief throughout it. And what was up with Percy and Annabeth suddenly needing to be saved in the book? Rick built them up to be strong self reliant characters that could usually get the job done by themselves with minimum help, and then all of a sudden Percy needs to be saved by Jason and Annabeth needs to be saved by Piper. (I considered Piper the weakest out of the seven throughout the series.)
And let's not forget that it was the Prophecy of Seven, but we only got to read from three of the seven, I found it really annoying. Also, while I love Leo, I would have preferred Percy or Annabeth to have the final POV in the book.
The Nico and Reyna POV's were good, and while I do love Nico I love Percy and Annabeth more. I would have loved to be in their heads for the final book in the series in this Greek/Roman Universe.
Rick Riordan really disappointed with this book, and while it wasn't bad by a long-shot, it still wasn't my favorite book in the series, and it was also a letdown as the final book in the series and Percy Jackson Universe.

I also hate the fact that there was no Hazel/Frank or Percy/Annabeth's POV. Hazel just became pretty powerful character (chapter 1) and Frank has just become a leader. It seems like they're okay, but then again their character seems a little shallow. What's with that? Frank should have been a hero in that book. Hazel HAS to have something going on in her head. Those two are just too undeveloped. Now think to yourselves. What did Hazel do in this book again? I just remember the 1st chapter, and Nike.
But Percy/Annabeth...they've been through Tartarus! They've been through things that no other demigod ever has been through. And I just kinda wanted to see how they were doing. You know, check on them, give them a monster to defeat, save the world...but Percy's fatal flaw at the end of the series? There should have been a Percy POV for that. And I hated how both of them seemed so...useless. (And with Annabeth breaking down and all, and Percy getting rescued by Jason)

I...actually didn't realize Percy or Annabeth didn't have a POV. I was really looking for three things: Reyna's POV and backstory, Nico's POV, and Octavian's (preferably hilarious) death. I think I got what I wanted, with a bit more (I loved the part where Nico thinks about the Twelfth Legion in a drive-through).
I definitely missed not having Percy's POV. I would love to have seen more of how he and Annabeth got over their trip to Tartarus. All this build up about the 7 defeating Gaia together and now it ends up being just 3 of them?
So many moments we missed between Percy and Annabeth from their own perspective. What was the point of mentioning Percy's burgeoning claustrophobia or his lack of stamina due to breathing poisoned air if neither issue was going to be explored further? They are more like afterthoughts.

Yeah, now that you mentioned it, neither Percy not Annabeth had POVs, although I guess it's balanced out by The Staff of Serapis and the third crossover, which'll be from Percy's first-person POV.
As much as it frustrated me that Percy wasn't narrating, the book was still epic. Remember, it's the heroes of Olympus, NOT Percy Jackson; he isn't the only main character and pretty much the entire house of hades was dedicated to Percabeth (even if they were literally in hell) so you can't blame Rick for pushing them a bit to the sidelines in this one. I kinda wish the whole problem with the gods had been cleared up though (what happened t Apollo?) and then there's the fact that everyone thinks Leo's dead. . . .
