Not only did I actually complete the June pick before the meetup, last night's bookclub saw us, inspired by Updraft, unsuccessfully attempt to echolocate via mouth clicks....apparently humans *can* actually do it, so we just need practice....right? Right?
It also saw Veronica draw this explanatory illustration of Updraft (for James who hadn't read it)!

Next month's meetup is Monday, July 25.

I think all who helped you get to your poker tournament should get a cut of those winnings, Bob: Veronica for being jet-lagged and us other attendees for allowing you to get out of Borderlands in time. ;)

You should come talk about it with us if you can :-)
We had a good-sized group, including Jasper's return and some new folk who I hope become regulars, lots of Witcher and Witcher-inspired video game talk, Stranger Things-insipred 80s/story use of nostalgia talk, and more. I'll have the next meeting date up in a bit.

Fresno Bob, I met a friend right after, so I don't know - did any of the rest of you go out for drinks afterwards?
And the next book is Vernor Vinge's A Fire Upon the Deep (yaaaaaaaaaay!) (spoiler: I may be a fan of that book.)
James, you pulled yourself away from Hamilton!? :O
I put the RSVP link for the next meetup up too soon - double-checking date with Borderlands, and will update soon...

OK, sorted out the date (there were some funky conflicts):
Next bookclub is Tue, Oct 4th!

A Fire Upon the Deep is frakking awesome!
Next meetup is Monday, Oct 24 ! (edit: this date has changed - see below!)
This meeting will also officially have a "let's now go to a local bar to drink and continue discussing" portion (meaning we're *finally* bending to Fresno Bob's wishes).

Ok since we have 0 yes's so far (beside myself), I'll see if Borderlands has an alternate night available soon. Stay tuned...
OK! New date: Wed, Nov 16!

Hopefully more can make it that day. The Supreme Sword will be there, you should be too!
With the crazy holiday season coming up, it will be our last Borderlands bookclub meetup of 2016, with the regularly scheduled program resuming in January. But we'll keep a lookout for author events, etc regardless - Sky, I can't make that Oct 25th event, but if you want to post an event to see if S&L'ers can make it, please do!

There's a book? I am moving this weekend, so I won't be finished either. You will not be alone!

I'm 73% done and will definitely finish by Monday.
Unless I'm the only one who finishes, James, you will get to join, and Veronica, you get to re-join, that illustrious club-within-a-club: Those Temporarily Excused From the Table So the Rest Can Dish Spoilers. (I've been a proud member of that club-within-a-club twice so far.)

Most of us finished.
It was almost Binti, till we read the blurb and it turned out to be science fiction.
Some books I think look interesting and short since it's a short month are The Girl with Ghost Eyes, Rebel of the Sands, and The Bird and the Sword. I've not read them, but they all sound intriguing.
Shoot, thank you, this was on my list of things to do today and I totally forgot! I'll get it done tonight!
Next meetup is Monday, Feb 27!
