That clever femme-fatale Phryne Fisher solves all kinds of crimes in these short stories, The Lady with the Gun Asks the Questions, by Aussie author Kerry Greenwood. One for fans of the fabulous Miss Fisher.

I saw on FB 'Trapper Road: Stillhouse Lake Book 6" by Rachel Caine and Carrie Ryan.it is listed on Amazon but not Goodreads nor NetGalley ~ Pub Date August 2, 2022.
Hmmm
Anyone know anything about this?
Finished one from my backlog, a great psychological thriller.
In the Deep by Loreth Anne White

A cute contemporary romance with interfering families.

Everybody deserves A Little Bit of Respect, and this delightful children's picture book from Claire Alexander shows even grown-ups how easy it is to slip up (and embarrass ourselves 😊 ).
5★ My review of A Little Bit of Respect with several small examples of the unique illustrations
Finished this one a week or so ago. I had to force myself to finish it. Stealing Infinity by Alyson Noël
1 StarI was feeling guilty 'cause I've DNF a few from NetGalley already, but I wasted so much time reading it, and avoiding it. Worse yet, doing so sucked some of my excitement to read anything.
I have got to push those feelings aside. If I have to force myself, I need to give it up.
Now reading Wild is the Witch by Rachel Griffin
Not NetGalley but it's an ARC worth sharing.Leavers, Schoolies, Spring Break - whatever you call it when kids on the brink of adulthood take off on their own - parents hope for the best.
Guess what? Town destination refused entry, so where to go? The Brink, Brink Island, an isolated island off the coast of Western Australia, of course. Western Australian author Holden Sheppard understands this place and these kids.
4★My review of The Brink
I only just missed Nikola Tesla's birthday (July 9) when I read the children's bio by Maria Isabel Sanchez Vegara. It's another in the great Little People BIG DREAMS series about historic figures.
4★ My review of Nikola Tesla with several illustrations
Upgrade by Blake CrouchI hadn't originally intended to read this. But I ended up doing so because I had I received an invitation from the publisher. This was very good, and I need to prioritize more sci-fi thrillers.

I love it when a favourite author is convinced to continue a story. Lying Beside You is celebrated Aussie mystery writer Michael Robotham's excellent addition to the Cyrus Haven (& Evie Cormac) series. But you can pick it up and enjoy the suspense and action straight away, because Robotham will fill you in.
5★ My review of Lying Beside You
Wild is the Witch by Rachel Griffen
so slow of a story it's stuck on a snail's tail. 2 StarsNow going to try Tune in Tomorrow by Randee Dawn
(I am reading another book from Netgalley; The Desecrated by John Gray, but Goodreads has yet to add it. *I have sent in a request)
Yours, Mine, Ours: The No 1 Bestseller by Sinéad Moriarty ⭐⭐⭐.6 https://sandysbookaday.wordpress.com/...https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
Chinese-born Qian Julie Wang was only five when she was warned she had to behave, be quiet and blend in - or they'd be deported. As she writes in Beautiful Country: A Memoir, it was hard for her to understand why her professor parents became menial workers,
3.5★My review of Beautiful Country
Old Friends Reunited by Maddie Please ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ https://sandysbookaday.wordpress.com/...https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
Dorie - Cats&Books :) wrote: "This amazing novel is also available on NetGalley : https://www.goodreads.com/review/show..."
Dorie, I can't see the title or the author on the tiny cover picture, and I can't hover over it on my phone. Can you just write the names of the books if you can't link them? Makes it so much easier! I always enjoy your reviews, but I don't usually check them unless I know what the book is (when I'm on my laptop and can 'hover'). 😊
An Artist's Eyes
by Frances Tosdevin shows through Clémence Monnet's beautifully clever illustrations that all artists (and we) see things differently. Gorgeous!
4.5~5★ My review with illustrations
Highly recommend this one
5* for this great thriller/police procedural :

I'll be surprised if this one doesn't win some more awards. Auē, by Becky Manawatu is centred around a contemporary Maori family. Loved it!
5★ My review
Tune in Tomorrow: The Curious, Calamitous, Cockamamie Story Of Starr Weatherby And The Greatest Mythic Reality Show Ever... Was a lot better than watching a reality TV show, or going to a bar to watch it live. But wasn't that great of a story.
2 Stars
Tinderbox by W.A. Simpson
is my next book
I'm ashamed I know so little about Alexander von Humboldt, who explained how important it is to know that everything is connected in nature. Thanks to Maria Isabel Sanchez Vegara, I know more. Get this into the hands of kids!
5★ My review with illustrations
Loved The 6:20 Man
by David BaldacciDavid Baldacci, I think my favourite author of all time and this book, does not disappoint. Baldacci's Back and this book's "Devine"!!
Here's my 5* review
https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
My Name Is Yip by Paddy Crewe is the off-beat 'memoir' of a most unusual character. Yip is like no one I've ever met (or am likely to meet), and I loved the way he told his story of early nineteenth century America.
4★ My review of My Name is Yip
Every Shade of Happy is a lovely intergenerational story featuring a grumpy old man, his estranged daughter and his unhappy granddaughter. Funny, sweet and very touching.review: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
Tinderbox
could have been a good story but the writing fell short. Wasn't descriptive enough to keep me intersted. 2 StarsUp next, The Heretic Royal
Jess Kidd has taken the difficult history of the 17th century Dutch ship 'Batavia' and tied it to a contemporary Australian story through two wonderful nine-year-old children. The Night Ship is well-researched and beautifully written, with a little bit of magical realism readers should love.
4★ My reviewStill available on NetGalley
This fun followup in the Finlay Donovan series is now available on NetGalley too 4+* for

The Heretic Royal
was a big disappointment. I could only give it 2 stars... The other 2 books in the series got 4 and 5 stars. This one, while it moved quickly, nothing happened. I kept waiting and nothing.... Up next The Spear Cuts Through Water
I loved
The Secret Life of Birds
by Moira Butterfield. it is an entertaining delight for kids and their grown-ups. The fact that it's full of information doesn't hurt either (meaning I learned things 😊).
5★ My review with several illustrations
Stopped reading The Spear Cuts Through Water at 7%. It starts off in 2nd person, and there's nothing that pulled me in. No descriptions and no action. But even when the 'main' story started, in those first few 'pages' there still wasn't anything that grabbed me. There were still no real descriptions. Not enough details for my little brain. I hated to do it, but Will Not Finish.
In the Shadow Garden
is next on my list.
The War Librarian by Addison Armstrong
Historical fiction transports readers into the past and unlocks portions of history. Addison Armstrong pens a novel that straddles the line between 1918 and 1977 where women are thrust into war while fighting against prejudice.
As pieces of the dual-linear puzzle emerge, the stories intertwine. Will the price of glory be too expensive to pay to survive? I love historical fiction and Armstrong's novel is one of the best books I've read this year. Filled with courage, determination and second chances, readers will step into the past to appreciate the future.

In the Shadow Garden
was a pretty good book. I had a few tiny issues, but it I gave it 3 stars.Up next, Storm and Flame
Just finished this great fast paced thriller which is available on Edelweiss and NetGalley !! 4++ * for
https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
Just finished How We Disappear: Novella & Stories. Each of these stories is interesting and unique, with memorable characters in settings all over the world. Tara Lynn Masih is an author worth watching.
4.5★ My review
Antarctica: Life on the Frozen Continent by Conor Kilgallon was a pretty thorough pictorial essay about the Great White Continent. I liked it a lot because it revived my memories of my visit there. My review -

just got
haven't read a gen historical love story in a long time... especially one that makes you cry....
I've just read and loved
The Queen of Dirt Island
by one of my favourite authors, Donal Ryan, who captures the sound and cadence of Irish speech better than anyone I can think of. His writing is the best!
5★ My review
5* for this thriller available on EW and NetGalley
My review:

The Partisan has everything: hot war, cold war, spies, assassins, history, and real people who fight, love, and care. It's hard to believe it's Patrick Worrall's debut novel. A great story about a dark time in Europe.
5★ My review
Storm and Flame
was an okay of a read. I gave it a low 3 stars. More descriptions would've helped this story. Now reading One Dark Window
, and I'm already 1/2 through and I'm liking this one! The author really thought this one out!
One Dark Window
was great, 4 stars, but it was also one of the worst types of cliffhangers, and there was nothing to alert the reader that it was going to be a series. Up next, Wrath
, a book I've had since April, but it's not set for publication until October.
John Boyne finally wrote an adult sequel to his much-loved The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas and it is terrific! All the Broken Places is older sister Gretel's 'autobiography' from when she was the 12-year-old daughter of a Nazi officer, then passing as French in Australia, and finally to the age of 92 in London. What a story!
5★ My review of All the Broken Places
Elizabeth Strout's Lucy Barton returns in her new book, Lucy by the Sea, where ex-husband William takes her to Maine to escape the pandemic which has brought New York City to its knees. It's American, real and current, but the relationship strengths and strains go beyond geographical boundaries and times. Families are families. Neighbours are neighbours.
5★ My review of Lucy by the Sea
Wrath
went where you'd think it would go, and it wasn't that great. Got boring towards the end. Now reading Desert Creatures
, and it's even worse. Very disappointed in this one. The book cover and blurb are the only things good about it. I would give up, but I'm almost done. (Didn't have a backup at work so I was stuck with it on break.)Up next is Big Bad
. They were nice enough to approve me Friday (16), but it comes out on the 27. grrr.
