We're on the cusp of the readathon, guys!

Everyone getting excited?!

message 54: by Kassandra (new)

Kassandra | -1 comments I'm totally excited! I was hoping to stay up late to get a jump on the reading but it's been a long week. Is anyone else going to start right at midnight and read through for a few hours?

message 55: by Melissa (new)

Melissa Coyle | 1557 comments I'll start about 5 or 6 a.m. What book are you starting with?

message 56: by Holly, That Geeky One (new)

Holly (hollycoulson) | 1949 comments Mod
I might, depending on how tired I get from uni work! For some reason, I've been going to bed really late, so it probably won't seem late for me! Plus I get to have a lie in tomorrow, so most likely!

Either that, or I'll get up early and read for a few hours before my lectures start.

message 57: by Kassandra (new)

Kassandra | -1 comments Holly - I love the new picture!!!! Did you dye your hair?

Melissa, I have to narrow it down but right now I'm going back and forth between Nightmares! and Dracula. The first seems perfect because it will be a light and easy one...but the second has been getting such rave reviews from this group that I'm really excited to start it! What are you starting with?

message 58: by Polly (new)

Polly Clarke | 56 comments Just waiting for the midnight hour to start reading 'The Raven'... ooooo shivver

message 59: by Amber (new)

Amber (amberterminatorofgoodreads) I'll be finishing Angus Macbain and the Island of Sleeping Kings today as I got 94 pages to go and will go from there.

Just finished off Romeo and Juliet, but I literally read it for like 15 minutes. Sitting in bed with Heat Wave!

message 66: by Heather (new)

Heather | 97 comments Woo hoo! It's 1.15am, I've just got in from work & I've just remembered that the readathon has officially started!

That means I have a valid excuse to stay up for a few more hours! Now hand me that book....

Kassandra, I'm thinking of starting with some shorties, The Tell-Tale Heart and The Pit and the Pendulum. In between shorties I'll keep reading chapters in Frankenstein.
You will enjoy Dracula. Happy reading!

message 69: by Kassandra (new)

Kassandra | -1 comments Melissa, I loved the Tell Tale Heart. I hope you enjoy it. Happy reading!

message 70: by Dana (new)

Dana (danachewy) | 36 comments I'm excited to start! Might only read one or two books, though. Some people on here look as if they'll be on a reading frenzy!

☼♎ Carmen the Bootyshaker Temptress ☼♎ | 104 comments Hi everyone. I've starting reading The Great Escape at 6:30am. I don't really have a list of books that I'm going to use but I do have a few that I will read this week.

message 72: by ♞ Pat (new)

♞ Pat Gent I've cracked open my first title, and I'm already enchanted with the characters. We've got an out of town wedding today, so I'll be reading while hubby is driving. :-)

The Hurricane Sisters by Dorothea Benton Frank The Hurricane Sisters

☼♎ Carmen the Bootyshaker Temptress ☼♎ | 104 comments Pat I do that all the time. I never go anywhere without a book. If I drive I'll put an audiobook in. Have fun.

message 74: by Alessandra (new)

Alessandra (chibisuke) | 266 comments This reminds me that I wanted to get some audiobooks for my car! I'm finally going to start my readathon in a few hours. Yay! :D

70% into my first book. I love when you read a relatively easy book after reading a whole load of Shakespeare etc!

message 76: by Kassandra (new)

Kassandra | -1 comments Wow, it looks like everyone is doing a fantastic job already and we're only a few hours in! I'm trying to get some reading done today but between working and prepping the house for the birthday party tomorrow - I don't hold out much hope that I will get much done until Sunday.

message 77: by Kimberley (new)

Kimberley Ash (kimberley_ash) | 35 comments Late start for me because of school, but I have begun! 40 pages in so far.

message 78: by Melissa (new)

Melissa Coyle | 1557 comments Since I had to take puppykins out this morning at 5 a.m., I started with a couple of shorties and finished The Raven and The Tell-Tale Heart by Edgar Allen Poe. Since I'm on Poe, I might just read The Pit and the Pendulum next.

message 79: by Amber (new)

Amber (amberterminatorofgoodreads) I found a short story collection on goodreads for free called A Murder of Crows so I'll prob read that one this weekend and stuff.

message 81: by Polly (last edited Oct 24, 2014 03:08PM) (new)

Polly Clarke | 56 comments It's been a long time since I read any supernatural/horror and I've already made a good start with The Ravenwhich was a short read to get me in the mood. Started reading it just after midnight which is highly recommended giggle. Today I've finished Mortlockwhich had everything I wanted from a ghostly, ghoulish story. I'm having great fun! I'm not into anything too serious and my next read over the weekend will be The Supernatural Enhancementswhich I'm really looking forward to! Listening to Absolute Radio most of the time otherwise it's in between family stuff.

Brenda (aka Grandma) | 278 comments Woohoo! I just got back from the library with an armful of presents-- that's how it feels when I pick up library books. Now I'm ready to relax with Sky Coyote. It's part of Kage Baker's Company series, which I've read most of over the years, but I want to read it again straight through in order.

message 83: by Kimberley (new)

Kimberley Ash (kimberley_ash) | 35 comments First day is just about done! Finished my first book and started the second, currently totaling 385 pages.

Lucy Mason (lmason17) | 174 comments I've only just started - have a terrible cold, so when I got home from work last night, reading came somewhere further down on the list below 'SLEEP'. Here's to all us late starters!

message 89: by Renee, Mistress of the Mini-Challenge (new)

Renee M | 4795 comments Mod
I'm with ya, Lucy. I thought I'd start last night but exhaustion won over desire (to read). Just picked up The Abbots Ghost by Louisa May Alcott. It's supposed to be a light, quick read. :)

message 90: by Kassandra (new)

Kassandra | -1 comments Wow, you had an awesome first day, Melissa! Great job.

Melissa Coyle | 1557 comments I think Carmen, Kimberley, and Becca all with over 500 pages are the inspiration. WOW! Super Readers!

Brenda (aka Grandma) | 278 comments Super Readers! Maybe we should all have capes. Or cloaks or masks... :)

message 97: by Kimberley (new)

Kimberley Ash (kimberley_ash) | 35 comments We should definitely have capes! :)

And I honestly don't know how I've managed it, with a short attention span, school yesterday and a bad stuff happening this morning...

Dianne (dianeterry) | 39 comments I started at midnight with short stories by M.R James, on chapter 7 of The Haunted Book Shop by Christopher Morley audio book while cleaning.
