Eric Mesa (djotaku) | 63 comments If you do, what's your process for picking the books to apply for?

My process is not to select books I know I won't enjoy reading. Then from what's left I pick both books I'd probably buy anyway and books to stretch myself a little. So, I wouldn't NORMALLY buy this book, but I don't expect to hate it. (Similar to the process that guides whether I buy the Humble Bundle or Story Bundle books - when each books is essentially a dollar, the barriers to trying new things is lowered)

Erin *Proud Book Hoarder* (erinpaperbackstash) I do sometimes - I go by top favorite genres and usually pick ending soonest to filter. I only vote if I am genuinely interested in the story.

I only pick books that look like I would like to read. I usually go by genre. I also usually only try for books that are giving at least 10 away because I am not usually very lucky. I get really excited when I do win.

Melissa | 363 comments I haven't in a while but I just participated in whichever's ones tweaked my interest. It was a good way to expand the kinds of books I read.

Yeah, I've gotten some interesting ones that I wouldn't have ever read otherwise.

Stephanie Griffin | 13 comments I used to enter more often than I do now because it seemed that I stopped winning after Amazon bought goodreads. Now I only look at the list if the mood strikes me. First I'll look at the beginning of the whole list, just in case there's a book out of my normal reading zone that piques my interest, then I'll sort by genre.

I think that MAY be because, as you pointed out somewhere, you stopped posting reviews here after Amazon bought them and one of the criteria to win is writing reviews.

I see. Hmmm. Posting a link to the review probably doesn't count.

Yeah, I don't think it would because it reduces value for the site.

Taylor I faithfully sit down once a week and enter the giveaways for the upcoming week. I've won a fair few too. The problem is that it introduces me to books I otherwise may not have discovered and then I need to buy them too, which is probably part of the rationale behind the giveaways.

Karen M | 418 comments I enter for the genres I enjoy and there have to be at least 5 copies offered and it has to seem like a book I will want to read and review. Sometimes I'll only find one or two books that interest me. I have been winning over the last couple of years so guess I'll keep entering

Kathryn (sscarllet) | 72 comments I try to enter every day, but sometimes life gets in the way and I forget for a week or two. I've won several books in the past, but haven't been wining as much recently. I have found some books I would have never picked up, but I have also read a few things that I wish I hadn't!

message 13: by Tiffany (new)

Tiffany (herbtiff) I will go through spurts where I win several and then go through a major dry spell. I am with Kathryn where I have found that some of the stories wouldn't have caught my eye in the store, but am I ever glad I did win. But, there have been a few that I push through because I maintain it is the only fair thing to do as that is part of the winning agreement.

I know what you mean. I have one sitting on my nightstand that I won and I just don't want to read it. I know I have to because there is an obligation to read and review because that really is the point of the giveaway although the rules state you're not obligated but I feel I am.

I feel obligated to review as well. With my last win I wasn't feeling it, but ended up deciding to give it 50% of the book. 50% of the book for me to get into it is a little too much for me because it takes away from so many other things in life. But, it did end up ok. I gave the book 3 stars and feel like I never need to read the book again.

Well, I went ahead and finally read the book and I did enjoy it. Even when it's a subject you don't want to read about if the book is well written you can still enjoy it

Kirstie Ellen (kirstieellen) I often enter the giveaways, I find the options are slightly limited for Australia however and the genuinely good books are often limited to the UK or USA etc. however I've won quite a few over the years and some were really good. I do like to enter them because there's always some good books that crop up and sound really interesting to read. And hey, free books for a review? I'm in.

Karen M | 418 comments Just an update. I read and reviewed the book that I kept putting off reading and it was very well written and now I'm glad I finally read it.
