I like this idea a lot. Aside from Audiobooks I by almost all of my books second hand. And I have bought so many that I have over 300 unread books on my shelves! Of the books I have planned through the end of the year at least 7 of them are used books. The others are rereads or audiobooks.
1. Downbelow Station
2. Women of Wonder
3. Ballad of Beta 2
4. The Joy Luck Club
5. Cloven Hooves
6. Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance
7. Girl with a Pearl Earing
I'm in! I have quite a few books from second hand bookstores and thrift stores waiting to be read. Let's see how many I can read before the end of the year.
@ Elle great! I hope you read lots of them. @Catherine I put them mostly in these mini libraries on the road or I bring them back to the thriftstore.
This sounds like a very interesting challenge. Most of my books these days tend to be from thrift shops etc. I don't buy many new ones now compared with even a year ago.

I adore those mini roadside..."
I thought about doing on too in my front yard, but I dont know it would give me anxiety.

Great challenge idea! I'm in. I'm glad it lasts until the end of the year because my September is already booked up (ha ha) with library loans for the most part. I hope we do this again in 2020 because I intend to work through a lot of my owned collection in the new year, and I virtually never buy books new (except as gifts/for my kids, or anything by Grady Hendrix from now on). My most common source is huge tri-annual book sales at my public library, at which I volunteer so I can get first crack at what's available. I will try for a conservative 12 already-owned bought-used books for the remainder of this year:
Format:
- Book/Author
- Where I bought it
- Cost
- Current challenge score
I have a boatload of secondhand books I've bought and some apply to other challenges for the rest of the year, so I'm gonna concentrate on some of those, 4-5 at the most. Over the course of a whole year if you decide to do this in 2020, I'm sure I could knock out a lot more than that. :)1. Due or Die Jenn McKinlay
Amazon Marketplace, $5 and some change, 1 pt.
I probably got it on eBay for less than 4 bucks, 1 pt.
Amazon, $6, 3/22/17, 1 pt.
Great idea! I have so many books that fall into this category!1. Bloody Crimes: The Chase for Jefferson Davis and the Death Pageant for Lincoln's Corpse
2. Can't Buy Me Love: The Beatles, Britain, and America
3. Dust and Shadow: An Account of the Ripper Killings by Dr. John H. Watson
4. A Favorite of the Queen
5. Girl on the Magazine Cover: The Origins of Visual Stereotypes in American Mass Media
6. Across a Star-Swept Sea
7. Midnight Rising: John Brown and the Raid That Sparked the Civil War
8. A Feast for Crows
9. The Young Elizabeth
10. An Improper Widow
11. Mayflower: A Story of Courage, Community, and War
12. Lady Hathaway's House Party

Updated message 6-- 2/15The 2 books that I read so far for this challenge are from a library book sale. If anyone is in the W. Mass or Southern Ct area, I have to recommend this sale. It is the Belchertown Library and they do it twice a year-- Oct and April. It is very worth driving to. It isn't a cart or a few tables-- it is two entire floors, and takes hours to look through. Best-- each hardcover is $2.00 and each paperback is $1.00 except the last day. On that last Saturday every book is half price, so $1.00 and .50. I get tote bags full of books for so cheap!

I am aiming to read 3 books this month... Two of which are second-hand ^_^
1. Slaughterhouse Five by Kurt Vonnegut
2. Naked Lunch by William S. Burroughs
I'd love to join if it's not too late? I picked up a few from a book fair recently, so this is good motivation to get through a couple of them.
Angie wrote: "I'd love to join if it's not too late? I picked up a few from a book fair recently, so this is good motivation to get through a couple of them."Welcome, never to late :-D
I'm starting my first read for this challenge... Stephen King's It. See you all in 1100 pages! I won't say how much I paid for it (rhymes with thrifty bents) because y'all are gonna be jealous XD.

22.***Belledonne kamer 16 from Anke de Vries. I bought this book in the local thriftstore for 1 euro.
Amy wrote: "Updated message 6-- 6/15"You're killing it! What are the books and prices? I am 2/5 of the way through my first book for this challenge... but on the plus side I have the fewest number of library books checked out that I have had in many months, so will soon clear my plate to tackle these used books. It won't be enough to catch up, but you know.

Thanks! 2/5 is pretty good too! I got lucky-- I am dog-sitting for a friend so for 7 straight days it is just me and 4 dogs in a house surrounded by woods, so lots of time to read.
If you look up at my original post, 6, it shows all of the books and prices.
Hi All, I think this is a great. I love getting second hand books from library sales and charity shops. Normally, I only spend £1.00 on a book or less. I have a big stash of them of them waiting to read . I'm definitely going to make a genuine effort to go through them now.
Sarah wrote: "Hi All, I think this is a great. I love getting second hand books from library sales and charity shops. Normally, I only spend £1.00 on a book or less. I have a big stash of them of them waiting ..."
Welcome!
Sarah, charity shops are the bane of my existence! I can’t seem to resist going into them and if they have anything I’m really interested in, then I can’t resist buying them. It’s only £1 after all! I console myself with books for my son mostly though, but then if I find 2 for him I have to find a 3rd because it’s 50p or 3 for £1!! Oh dear.
I'm definitely in! Used books are the best books! I'll go for 7, to be revised upward if I finish before then. (1 point so far)1. Death Comes for the Archbishop by Willa Cather
I bought this book at 2nd and Charles (A national used book chain in the United States, run by the same people who run BAM. Cannot recommend it enough!). Cost was $3.29. I finished it yesterday, started on the 3rd.

I know Diane, I can't resist them either, there are just so many too, The three for £1 is really good . They have lovely children's books in too. I don't have children but I'm a big fan of Children's and YA fiction. I recently picked up Lucy's Magical Winter Stories which is a lovely book. It was only a £1 from a cancer charity shop and I often pick up copies for my book group too.

My daughter will be happy if I cover up the clown face with that stuff, if I don't keep it out of plain view she has to flip it over and put something in front of the spine (which has the same picture in thumbnail size) to avoid looking at it.
@Marc you daughter maybe would like it!Yesterday i went to a church market and came back with 8 books. I am trying to clear out my book cabinet so it is not working. LOL
Updated message 6-- 8/15-- Nineteen Minutes-- I am not sure where or when I got this book. It has been on my shelf forever. I know it is secondhand though--there was a plane ticket from 2008 Gatwick Airport London tucked inside. Sadly, that ticket was not mine.
