Sam (ecowitch) | 2354 comments Wow, great going guys!!! I'm only about a quarter of the way through my book but should be able to get more done this evening!

Keep up the good work all :-D

Esther (nyctale) | 5191 comments Problem with tasks like the nutty character is that most times, it is hard to determine until you've read the book.

Totally not the case but I wonder if we could switch tasks for a book currently being read... say a book that someone's reading for a task has a nutty character..... if this issue comes up, we will ask J'mon.

Esther (nyctale) | 5191 comments Annette,
I believe the Stephanie Plum series would fit the bill. Have you read them? it's a light and funny read.

message 306: by Kirila (new)

Kirila | 660 comments Nice work team! :)

I am reading my second book, but I have a test in my German class tomorrow so I need to focus on that tonight... But I am still hoping to finish the second book quickly and find time for a third.

message 309: by Debra (new)

Debra (debra_t) | 6542 comments Thanks, KimeyDiann. It helped to have an extra day off work this week.

I just finished Anonymous Rex and am starting m next book. Yay!

Helen Southall (hsouthall) | 181 comments Finished Roll #3 Joyland by Stephen King

Task 6 - mystery - This was not your typical SK but it was terrific. Listened on audio and loved it.

BTW Esther - I like you too!

Annette - How about Deliverance by James Dickey? There are some awfully "nutty" characters in that book.

I haven't heard of that series but I will definitely check them out! Thanks for the suggestion. It really is hard to tell if a character is "nutty" until you start reading the book.

That book is actually on my to-read list. If it's as harrowing as the movie I don't know if I'm up for it at the moment... but then again maybe a Toppler is the perfect way to read it. Get it done quickly without a whole lot of thought. :)

Viel Glück, Kirila!

I guess this team will be captainless for a bit. I am just poping in quick. I have my chinese exam tomorrow so i am offline studying. Still managed to get a bit of reading/listening done here and there. I will be back full steam tommorow eve.

20 + 22 = 42. 42 - 40 = 2

Am I feeling lucky? I will go ask jmom

message 316: by Sarah (new)

Sarah (sarahlou29) | 1302 comments I've just finished my first book. I'll start my second later today. Which will be for task 35 short line.

message 317: by Kazen (new)

Kazen So while I love the book I'm reading it feels like it's taking forever to get through. The most common edition here on GR is 315 pages, but I did a little more digging, and it seems that it runs closer to 450 (hardcover) or 600 pages (kindle). That explains a lot! Luckily my second book should be short and sweet, so no worries there. :)

I don't do scary movies, so I cannot say. I got through it easily enough. It's suspenseful, horrifying, and made me rethink any future North Georgia retirement plans!

KimeyDiann | 2174 comments I finished Mortal Fear yesterday! I'm 57% through Angelfall and so far it is pretty good. I'm not sure why I kept putting off reading it because I am enjoying it. :)

Good luck to Kirila and Esther on your exams!

Helen Southall (hsouthall) | 181 comments Esther and Kirila - ace those exams so you can get back to fun work - reading that is. Good luck!

message 322: by Annette (new)

Annette Olsen | 205 comments I think I have decided to read Care of Wooden Floors for my "nutty" character book. Oskar is a neatnik who has an old college friend house sit for him. Oskar leaves the place covered with sticky notes all over the place with detailed instructions about how things should be done. Sounds nutty to me!

message 323: by KimeyDiann (new)

I'm so glad you enjoyed Joyland! SK writes in many genres, but most think he only writes horror.

Helen Southall (hsouthall) | 181 comments Finished A Plain Disappearance for Roll 1.
This meets task 14 requirements - close to home - I live in central Ohio and the book takes place in central Ohio

Starting on GAME, an American Novel for Roll 4

message 332: by Helen (new)

Helen Southall (hsouthall) | 181 comments Just rolled again - got a 23 (20+23=43 -40=3)
Task 3 is "nutty as a fruitcake "
Got a good one on my kindle for that - The Christmas Note
2 nutty characters - Mom - abusive, reclusive, obsessive and paranoid
Daughter - reclusive and fearful

message 333: by KimeyDiann (last edited Oct 22, 2014 02:01PM) (new)

KimeyDiann | 2174 comments I decided to go ahead and roll for a fourth book since I should be able to finish Angelfall pretty quickly. I was on space 29 and rolled 14. 29+14-40=3 Fruitcake.

It seems like there have been a lot of people get the fruitcake category. Or maybe there was just a lot of talk about it before the toppler started. Either way, I have found the perfect book... Fat Is the New 30: The Sweet Potato Queens' Guide to Coping with (the crappy parts of) Life

I've read (listened to) The Sweet Potato Queens' novel before and thought it was pretty cute and have always been curious about Jill Connor Browne's other SPQ books. She is the definition of quirky/eccentric in my opinion. I mean, the woman who created The Sweet Potato Queens has to be a little fruitcakey, right? LOL.
(If you don't know who The Sweet Potato Queens are or what they do, a google image search will show you the nuttiness!) (Oh, and I think they have a webpage too.)

message 334: by Debra (new)

Debra (debra_t) | 6542 comments Finished The Shuddering for task 37. Rolled again and got a 1. That puts me on 38 = Luxury Tax – Read a book in a genre you haven’t read before, or one that you rarely read.

I'm going to read The Metamorphosis. I rarely read books of this type, if it even has a type. Doesn't really seem to fall into a specific genre other than classics.

Kirila | 660 comments My 3rd task is to read something with at least 50% purple cover. Since I take most of the books from the library, I currently have no idea, but I will start looking. Meanwhile I am throwing it in the pool. If somebody likes it, we can switch tasks.

Any purple cover suggestions are welcome!

Ooo, the book I'm reading right now has a purple cover!

Wallflower Gone Wild (Bad Boys & Wallflowers, #2) by Maya Rodale

The task you would be swapping for is 26, read a romance. But if you're not a romance person and would rather not take it I totally understand!

message 347: by Kirila (new)

Kirila | 660 comments Kazen that would be awesome! I read romance even if it is not very often, besides it will be much easier to find stg there than for a purple cover.

Thank you!

Esther (nyctale) | 5191 comments Good morning team.

I just reread the rules... Nothing againstyou reading 2 "1st roll" book. yes! so swap is done!

message 349: by Esther (new)

Esther (nyctale) | 5191 comments Thanks for the thoughts. She made it through the night. At some point I did not think she would. Honestly, I have been expecting this for the last 5 years. She was diagnosed with Alzheimer's 10 years ago. She has long reached the point where she cannot move by herself. The aunt that I knew and loved has been gone for years.
