This one is only good for one month!
From October 1 to October 31.

Mission: Find and read one book with a word or words in the title that are somehow associated with the October experience. This could mean Halloween, Octoberfest, Columbus Day, Autumn, etc. Whatever October means to you. Also, the book doesn't have to be about theme. So, an "Octoberfest" book could be Beer in the Snooker Club.

Any genre is welcome. I'm going to create a spot just under this for words related to October as I think of them, but feel free to come up with your own. Finding the books is part of the fun! :D

Please include something about the "October Connection" in your post, so we can all enjoy your creativity. :)

I'll definitely try fit this in! Although it may be hard with Uni reading!

Right now, I'm considering either The Abbot's Ghost, or Maurice Treherne's Temptation A Christmas Story or Oranges Are Not the Only Fruit. Although, I might make it easy (or harder) on myself and finish Orange Is the New Black which I abandoned several months ago. I'd read about half before giving up.

October words would be: ghost or orange

Amber (amberterminatorofgoodreads) I read Halloween Night on Shivermore street earlier and it had to do with a Halloween party with mummies, vampires, witches and more. It was a pretty good children's picture book.

I could do a double whammy and do 'Orange is the New Black'. Or I could finally tick off 'A Clockwork Orange'... Decisions...

I was also considering A Clockwork Orange, but it's one of those books that I THINK I've already read. So many books, so little memory. :p

Kimberley Ash (kimberley_ash) | 35 comments Hmm, maybe I'll go for Operation Red Jericho for this. I need more books with October-related titles! :P

Must have been a page turner!

Melissa Coyle | 1557 comments So far my Creepy Crawly is The Witches by Roald Dahl.

Good one!

message 14: by Melissa (new)

Melissa Coyle | 1557 comments Finished The Witches today, so how about Dark Places by Gillian Flynn.

message 15: by Renee, Mistress of the Mini-Challenge (new)

Renee M | 4795 comments Mod
Yep! Personally, I'm still afraid of the dark!

message 16: by Karen (new)

Karen | 289 comments Finished A Discovery of Witches which I neither loved nor hated.

message 17: by Melissa (new)

Melissa Coyle | 1557 comments Dark Places by Gillian Flynn certainly fits the Halloween theme and a must read if you like a dark, thriller/mystery. I loved the no-nonsense Libby who was the protagonist and I was in awe in how she could get bitchy from 0-50 in a couple of seconds when people asked stupid questions. This was by far my favorite Flynn novel.

Great recommendation, Melissa! Thanks!

message 19: by Melissa (new)

Melissa Coyle | 1557 comments Finished Into the Darkest Corner by Elizabeth Haynes, this is a spooky relationship thriller. I was reluctant to turn the pages about the middle of the book and had to call my sister (who requested this book) and tell her my innards were in a puddle. Of course she just laughed and said, "just keep reading." Oh, sisters! Spooky!!!

message 20: by Melissa (new)

Melissa Coyle | 1557 comments Also finished A Monster Calls by Patrick Ness today. A child's worst nightmare indeed and a must read!

Moons do seem more October-y than suns. Especially when they're full!
Ow-ow-ooo!

(That was my werewolf interpretation.)

message 23: by Melissa (new)

Melissa Coyle | 1557 comments funny! :D

message 24: by Karen (new)

Karen | 289 comments And on that wolf-y note... I am reading Howl's Moving Castle which I keep thinking belongs here since I just have a mental picture of a wolf howling in front a full moon

Nice! That's two for you, Karen!
How is HMC? I've heard raves and raspberries.

Oh, yeah! Good catch, Sandy! Melissa has been having her own little Creep-Fest! Go, Elvira, Queen of the Night!

Done!
I read The Abbot's Ghost, or Maurice Treherne's Temptation A Christmas Story.

A fun read. Entirely predictable, but still delightful.

message 29: by Karen (new)

Karen | 289 comments Started an unplanned read of Dead Witch Walking

Tracey | 916 comments The Black Dahlia was mine

Renee M | 4795 comments Mod
What did you think of it, Chase? I've trouble getting into it.

message 33: by Tracey (new)

Tracey | 916 comments It was okay, but I also had trouble getting into it, especially the bits about boxing. It picks up more near the end.

message 34: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie | 106 comments Finished Chibi Vampire, Vol. 01. I think it fits the Halloween theme nicely. It has vampire in the title and the manga is focused on the life of a young girl and her vampire family.

message 35: by Renee, Mistress of the Mini-Challenge (new)

Renee M | 4795 comments Mod
Ooh! You've made me remember Vampire Knight, a manga series that I need to get back to. ;)
