Anita | 104 comments Thanks for this posting. I never remember to listen to the radio, and forget I can find these on line. I find Sarah Waters' books fascinating!

Kirsten (kmcripn) Never start the day without my NPR fix! Love their author interviews.

Thanks, Kirsten. I've been very interested in this book, but the hardcover seems to be very expensive here. I'm sort of resigned to waiting for the paperback edition. I read Fingersmith last year, and loved it.

Thanks for the links, Kirsten! I don't get to listen to NPR on the weekends very much, so these links are great to have handy. And thanks also for pointing out Theroux's new book, having read a couple of his novels (The Mosquito Coast and Hotel Honolulu) and loved them I will keep this new collection of short stories in mind.

Terry Pearce Fingersmith was very enjoyable. It read to me like a modern Dickens in some ways. I was very pleased with The Little Stranger, too, even though some found it very different to her older stuff. I like the direction it took her in, it felt like she is maturing as a writer and doing new things rather than just churning out stuff her fans will like. This new one looks good.

Lacewing The Night Watch

Sarah Waters' The Night Watch is a gorgeous love story, interweaving relationships of many kinds. The ending is just perfect. For me, it's a meditation on the range of all the ways we care about each other, from passionate to compassionate, from honorable to less so.

I like re-reading it. And I like recommending it!

Kirsten (kmcripn) Jane Smiley was interviewed this morning on Weekend Edition about her new book Some Luck by Jane Smiley : http://www.npr.org/2014/10/05/3535280...

Terry Pearce The Night Watch is on my list. It's from between those two I enjoyed and you rate it highly, so I should get round to it.

Lots of interviews here, too. Authors talk (mostly) about their literary influences.

Kirsten (kmcripn) Marilynne Robinson has written a prequel to Gilead, Lila. She is interviewed by Lynn Neary on NPR's Morning Edition: http://www.npr.org/2014/10/08/3543073...

message 14: by Kirsten (new)

Kirsten (kmcripn) I heard an interview with Oliver Jeffers on NPR's All Things Considered --http://www.npr.org/2014/10/13/3548116... -- on his new alphabet book, Once Upon an Alphabet: Short Stories for All the Letters. Each letter gets its own story! It sounds delightful! I hope you will all agree.

Kirsten (kmcripn) Sad interview. One of his statements rung so true to me after my father's death in August of 2013 from cancer. He said if someone you love has cancer, it's like they're on another planet. How true.
