2019 September Pick It For Me Challenge

Pickees
✱ To help your picker understand the type of books you like or are currently reading, please make sure your ‘read’ shelf is up to date. You can create shelves for books you DNFed (Did Not Finish) or authors that don’t work for you as well as favorite books and authors. In addition, you might consider updating your profile. You can include info about your favorite books, authors, genres, themes or tropes (or themes/tropes you dislike – i.e. secret baby).
✱ Please do not specify likes/dislikes in the sign-up thread. This information will not be included in the pairings and your pickee may not see your message and does not need to rely on that information when making picks.
Pickers
✱ Please remember this is primarily a romance readers group. Thus, most, if not all, of your picks should be romance. There are various sub genres within the romance category - Contemporary, Historical, Paranormal, Romantic Suspense, Erotica, M/M, Urban Fantasy. If your pickee reads a wide variety, you could add a non-romance as a choice.
✱ You will be using 8 picking rules to select books for you pickee. Choose at least 4 new titles for your pickee. These can be brand new to them (not found on any of their shelves) or a book found on their shelves if they've never read any of the author's work previously. The remaining 4 titles should come from your pickee's tbr, with a minimum of one from their preferred shelves if provided. Be sure to pick at least one book for each picking rule, but please limit your picks to no more than two books per rule as sometimes having too many options is worse than too few.
✱ Please remember when you are giving new recommendations, you are not limited to titles that you have read. You can choose books that are new releases, on your tbr, or titles you looked up on Goodreads or Amazon that you think your pickee would enjoy.
A few hints to help with book selection:
✱ Check the book’s publishing date. Select "date pub" from the checkbox selections and save.
✱ Check pickee's personalized shelves, especially their exclusive shelves. A personalized shelf is one the member has created. (e.g., 'to read next', 'favorites' ‘didn’t like’)
✱ Make sure the books you choose are not on their 'read' shelf. Just because it isn't rated doesn't mean it wasn't read.
✱ Look at your pickee's 'read' shelf and see what genres they have recently read or read the most. Reviewing their ‘read’ shelf might help you in choosing something they are interested in reading right now.
✱ If your pickee reads lots of books in a genre you are not familiar with (erotic romance, GLBT, YA, etc.) Contact the Mods or the month's organizer for guidance.
✱ Include a variety of books (e.g., shorter page count, new addition to their 'to-read' shelf, an older book on their 'to-read' shelf) This variety gives your pickee options when choosing the book or books they will be reading this month. Use the sort feature within their shelves to determine date a book was added, published or read; page numbers, ratings, etc.
If you want to volunteer to make repicks:
✱ We love that you want to help out, but please remember those who need picks have been waiting for a long time already. Please only volunteer if you are able to make the repicks within a few hours of the deadline. Thank you!

Please note that your preferred lists will be added to your name in the final Pairings list.

September has a lot of special days dedicated many different things, so this month’s rules use some of those special days.
(Note: When a rule uses numbers, numbers do not have to be in that order and can be anywhere in the page numbers or copyright dates. If a rule says ‘16’ for example, the 1 and the 6 do not have to be in order and can have other numbers with them: copyright 2016, copyright 1996, page 216, page 361, etc.)
September is:
1. Baby Safety Month and includes Grandparents’ Day and Step-family Day. Read a book with a baby, children, a step-family, or grandparents, or a book with the number 16 anywhere in the pages or the copyright date in honor of September 16, Working Parents’ Day.

Read a book with a character who is involved with any of the arts such as music, dancing, painting, etc. or a character who has an interesting hobby or craft, a character who demonstrates gratitude, since we are grateful for the arts, or the number 21 for World Gratitude Day, September 21.
5. Fall Hat Month and includes Felt Hat Day and Make a Hat Day. Read a book with a hat on the cover, a book whose characters are involved in the fashion industry, a book that takes place in the fall season, has any of the fall colors (red, orange, yellow, brown) on the cover, or the number 15 for Make a Hat Day, September 15.

8. Self-Improvement Month, and includes Emma Nutt Day, in honor of the first female telephone operator, National Women’s Friendship Day, and Business Women’s Day. Read a book with a strong female character, a character who is trying to improve herself or himself, a character who is involved in the business world, a book with friends or friendship, a book with a positive character, or a book with a 13 in honor of Positive Thinking Day, September 13.
Happy Reading!

I apologize for the slight delay in getting these out to you. My computer is not functioning well and I am not sure if the formatting for the special shelves links will work. If not or if you have a question, please check the links in the individual messages below.
I combined A and B sorting choices because we didn't have very many ice cream eaters, and there were no sign-ups for D, which means everyone likes to snack and read!
Please choose for the person below you in the picking list. The last person will choose for the first person. For example, Carrie will choose for Suzanne.

1. Baby Safety..."
Thank you Nancy - I see several I want to read in September! Have to go check out the new ones, but at a quick glance several look intriguing as well! 😊

We didn't have many books in common (besides JD Robb) and you've already read all that were in common, so I know nothing of the TBR picks (most are picked because of number match). I hope you find something intriguing in these choices.
1. Baby Safety Month and includes Grandparents’ Day and Step-family Day: First up we have Flawed by Cecelia Ahern. Or check out what happens when an out of shape single mother learns she is next in line to protect mortals in Huntress by Nicole Hamlett.

2. Chicken Month and includes National Pet Memorial Day and Elephant Day: Interesting concept in Pixi Poison: An Ashwood Novel by Lee Dignam. Or we have a small town settled by shapeshifter families that hires a sheriff and doesn't share the secret in Shifting Dreams by Elizabeth Hunter.

3. Better Breakfast Month and Honey Month, and includes many days for food, including cherry popovers, cheese pizza, salami, date nut bread, chocolate milk shakes, fortune cookies, blueberry popsicles, and more: We have Well Suited by Staci Hart. Or an amazing story of a woman afraid to take chances dating a man who loves to bet (as well as their group of friends) in Bet Me by Jennifer Crusie.

4. Classical Music Month and National Piano Month: From your TBR, we have A Fistful of Evil by Rebecca Chastain. You MUST read Ilona Andrews. You really can't go wrong with any of the series, so I will pick the latest with Burn for Me which has a family of PIs who are basically blackmailed into a suicide mission in a world where your power (and family's power) determine so much (also it reminds me a little bit of JD Robb without the childhood trauma).

5. Fall Hat Month and includes Felt Hat Day and Make a Hat Day: Start with Holding on to Forever by Siobhan Davis. Or check out a reality TV show filming what is was like to live in historical times in The Corset Diaries by Katie MacAlister.

6. 6. Hispanic Heritage Month and includes National Good Neighbor Day and International Peace Day: Who doesn't love pizza - A Pizza My Heart by Teagan Hunter. Or travel to a hidden town in Canada where people can hide for a price and what happens when a murder happens there in City of the Lost by Kelley Armstrong.

7. Little League Month (the tournament for which is occurring right now in my state of PA about an hour from where I live!) , and includes National Video Games Day, Miniature Golf Day, Checkers Day, and even Collect Rocks Day: He certainly looks physically fit - Dark Child by Jo Raven. Or we have a cocky college hockey player convincing a arts student to tutor him by pretending to be a couple so she can catch a football player's eye in The Deal by Elle Kennedy. I absolutely adore both leads.

8. Self-Improvement Month, and includes Emma Nutt Day, in honor of the first female telephone operator, National Women’s Friendship Day, and Business Women’s Day: Pretty sure you have to be strong to be a Demon Slayer by Linsey Hall. Or you loved the Elemental Assassin's series by Jennifer Estep, so try out one of her YA series with Dark Heart of Magic where the world is sort of mob run (but the mob families are based on magical power) and an orphan gets blackmailed into being a bodyguard.

Here are my picks for you! All the new ones I’ve suggested I’ve rated 4⭐️ or higher so hopefully you will find some to enjoy or add to your lists for the future.

What is the Pick-It-For-Me Challenge?
The Pick-It-For-Me Challenge (PIFM) is a reading challenge where each participant gives and receives book recommendations based on a given a set of rules. The assignment method and book selection rules change each month so it’s always new and always different.
The idea of the PIFM challenge is that you will get new-to-you books and authors selected for you as well as a push to read some books that have been lingering on your shelves. You may not be interested in the new books recommended, which is why you also get a minimum of four books from your shelf.
You only have to read ONE book to complete this challenge!
After signups are closed, your names and any extra info will go into the super secret PIFM randomizer and it will select someone for you to recommend books to and someone to give you recommendations. This list will be posted along with any specific picking rules for the month.
In order to participate you need to either HAVE YOUR PROFILE SET TO PUBLIC (preferable), or friend the person giving you recommendations. PLEASE NOTE: if you choose to keep your profile private, it is your responsibility to send a friend request to the person picking for you as soon as possible after the matchups are posted. Whether your profile is private or not, it is also very important that your profile be set to receive Private Messages (PMs) in case anyone needs to reach out to you (mods, organizer etc.)
Everything gets done in this thread so be sure to come back often!!!
Repicks:
You can ask for repicks if:
✱ The books picked for you are not yet released.
✱ If you have already read the chosen book(s) and they are on your ‘read’ shelf.

You may NOT ask for repicks because:
