I’m thinking this was actually supposed to be a reply to me- and yes, I understand that however, I’ve read the other 2 prompts in this section I’m trying now to see if I can complete the challenge a third and final time- since I’ve got time before the end of November, I’m enjoying the challenge format and I’m done with all of my other challenges the prompts I have left are the ones that were most challenging for me

Lisa | 59 comments Thanks everyone for your help I’m not a big sports fan but between your suggestions and ones from a reading related Facebook group, I now have a list of athlete related books I want to read!

Great, thanks! I tried researching it myself, but all I kept finding was the same short list that was posted above, which made it seem like an extremely limited prompt.

Goodreads just posted this article today: 24 Books that Began as NaNoWriMo Projects

Thanks, I saw it! I'm glad American Panda is on there, since I was thinking of reading that soon anyway.

Scroll to the top and click on Autumn/Fall Reading Challenge and that should take you to all four discussion threads related to this challenge. Hope that works for you!

Bryony (bryony46) | 1081 comments November seems to be flying past, and we’re getting towards the end of this season’s challenge. I’m working on the tasks for our Winter challenge now and I’d like to ask you all if you have any suggestions or comments on the seasonal challenges we’ve had in the group this year so far.

Here are some questions as a starting point but please feel free to make any suggestions or comments you like, you don’t have to only answer these questions.

1. Overall are the tasks too easy? Too difficult? About right?

2. Most of the prompts are intended to be open to books from any genre (as an example from the current challenge, you could find an author whose name begins with A or F in any genre). Is this a good thing or would you like some prompts that are more prescriptive (eg read a historical fiction, read a biography, etc)?

3. Do you like the basic format of the challenge (four prompts per month with a choice of three tasks for each)? Is there anything you’d like to change about it?

dalex (912dalex) | 2646 comments I’ve really enjoyed everything about the challenges. The only thing that has sort of bothered me is the total lack of group interaction. I think part of that is that there is just *so much* in the individual challenge thread. There are so many participants and each post is an enormous wall of text.

Some thoughts about fixing this
-divide people into groups like we do for the read-a-thons
-make alphabetical threads for individual challenges like how it is on the spreadsheet for the ATY yearly challenge
-make discussion threads for the months so people can discuss what they plan to read and/or have read for the prompts within that month.

viemag | 180 comments 1.I have really enjoyed the two challenges I participated in this year. I thought the tasks were just right. Sometimes challenging sometimes easy and open to any genre. Which I really liked. I feel the format is very good, because it gives choices and variety. I found some of the challenges fit my book club books, and some fit my ATY choices and I liked that.

Lisa | 59 comments I did not participate in the summer challenge but I did the autumn. I liked the way it was formatted and the type of prompts. I liked that there were easy to fill prompts and ones that needed a little more digging. I liked the number of options- gave me the ability to decide if I wanted to do the entire challenge (do it 3 times so I did all of the prompts or just finish it one or 2 times). I agree that I was surprised at how little interaction/discussion went on but I’m not sure how to change that.

dalex (912dalex) | 2646 comments The nerd in me would love some end-of-challenge statistics - total number of participants, number of people completing 12, 24, 36 prompts, most popular prompt, least popular prompt, book(s) that were used the most for a particular prompt, etc.

Ellie (patchworkbunny) | 2992 comments I like that there are 3 options for each one, as then it's up to the individual to choose their level of difficulty. I had high hopes of doing more than one round for autumn, but as it turns out I'm happy just to tick off the easy ones.

As dalex suggested, it would be good to have more discussion about the prompts and what we're reading, like we do for the main challenge.

Suzanne | 349 comments I have really enjoyed this challenge. Thanks so much for putting it together.

For me it has been just right. Some prompts were easy and some hard. I could use books on my TBR shelves for most and found new books for others. I ended up doing all of the prompts.

I like that the prompts are open to any genre. I read a lot of nonfiction and that worked just fine. On the other hand, I would not mind a genre prompt. When there are so many choices, a genre prompt could be avoided.

I agree that it would be nice for each person to have their own threads for progress tracking. It's so hard to scroll through and find things. The one thread with message links is fine on my computer, but won't load on my phone.

Jen K | 572 comments I've also really enjoyed the challenge and find the leveling is pretty good. It was very easy to slot books for the first round and a bit more challenging for the second round as it should be.

The Fall challenge has been more difficult for me to complete a second round without purposely reading a book that only fits that prompt as some were a bit more limited in the options but I'm also okay with that extra challenge. I like that it is already somewhat set up for an easy or hard challenge per your preference.

message 66: by Marie (new)

Marie | 1060 comments I've really enjoyed both seasonal challenges. I haven't read any extra books for them, but I love the puzzle of fitting my AtY books into the prompts.

I've been really impressed with the prompts, they're so imaginative, sometimes difficult, and yet open enough that I haven't had to find any new books for them. My favourite so far has been trying to find one of the most looked up words in one of my books.

For me, it's been perfect and I can't think of any changes that would make it better. Maybe that's because I'm not looking for it to shape my reading, as I'm using already planned reads.

message 67: by Bryony (new)

Bryony (bryony46) | 1081 comments Thank you for all the feedback on the seasonal challenges, it’s been really helpful with planning the next one. The Winter challenge will be posted soon and there will be some changes to help encourage more discussion about the prompts, including a special Christmas gift task...

Traci (tracibartz) | 1264 comments I only have 2 left to finish all 36 prompts! I'm struggling with my physical book for some reason right now. 5 days to go!
