Victoria (curiousglitters) | 12 comments I read a book when i was in junior school, aged between 7-10 it was mid 90s when i read it.

It was a green book cover

It was about a kid or kids who find some sort of object, it allows them to be transported to this other universe or parallel world.

The time worked differently, one second on earth would be hours in this other place.

One scene I believe was the kid in a car and he uses this object and he gets transported to this place and is there for hours and when he returns to earth he's only been gone a couple of seconds. I don't think he actually leaves earth, its like he travels to this other place but is still where he started.

I loved the book and have been trying to find it for years.

its definitely NOT a wrinkle in time.

There may have been some sort of subplot where a boy brings back an animal egg but im not sure if thats from the same story.

Hope someone can help, ive been looking for this book for like 14 tears

Debra Firestone | 127 comments If it wasn't for being transported by objects, I would think it's the Magic Tree House series. In the book, the kids transported by choosing a book on the topic they wanted to explore and were transported there. Dinosaurs Before Dark this is the first book in the series.

Thank you for responding :) I have looked those up but its not those unfortunately,

I don't think they travelled to a different time period just to a different dimension/parallel universe.

I remember the cover been bright green with a fair bit of activity on it, but that probably doesn't narrow it down very much!

Maybe The Portal?

I think this was the cover of a 90s edition The Portal by Bill Myers

Noor Al-Shanti Could it be one of the Narnia books? Maybe one of the less famous ones? Do you remember any other details about it?

Rosa (rosaiglarsh) | 5384 comments It's not any Narnia book.

Cyrena Musset | 19 comments My guesses:

Half Magic

Or one of the books by Andre Norton (Quag Keep or Lavender-Green Magic) these are a bit older.

message 13: by Rosa (new)

Rosa (rosaiglarsh) | 5384 comments Half Magic is much older than those Andre Norton books.

Victoria (curiousglitters) | 12 comments Hiya no none of those seem to be it either.
It was an object of some sort that instantly transported these kids to another plain or something
But they were still in the original place too but as time worked differently no one noticed so much it was just like they had zoned out for a few seconds

Paige | 2 comments The only thing I could think of could be Christopher Pike’s Spooksville as I THINK it hadn’t kids going to a different/alternate universe.

Victoria, is it a horror novel like Paige's suggestion - e.g., Time Terror by Christopher Pike? If not, what's the tone (e.g., fun adventure, mystery, thriller)?

Victoria (curiousglitters) | 12 comments Hot was a kids book I remember taking it out of the library at my junior school
It was lighthearted kind of like a kids adventure book if memory serves right

Pixiegirl105 | 176 comments What about the The Forbidden Door? Kids find a door and are transported to universe with dragons?

message 20: by Victoria (new)

Victoria (curiousglitters) | 12 comments Hi

Sorry that’s not the one I remember it being an object that transports them to some sort of parallel universe or something not so much torn travel as world travel
Time worked different so a second in earth time was hours in this other world/universe but they are still on earth at the same time

Ky | 449 comments Could it be The Phantom Tollbooth by Norton Juster? In that book, a boy named Milo gets a cardboard (?) car that he puts together and when he gets in and tries to drive it, it works and sends him off to a fantasy land. He doesn't come back with an animal egg though.

Tanya Kuzmanovic | 14 comments what about "the talisman" by stephen king and peter straub - this sounds similar - but it was written in early 80s i believe . . .

Victoria (curiousglitters) | 12 comments No sorry it isn’t either of those I’m afraid

I know you said it's not time travel, but I'm going to throw this one out there just because the travel happens through an "egg shaped device" and some of the editions have green covers: The Green Futures of Tycho
