Looking For a Book that is either Sci-Fi or Fantasy

I am looking for a book about a girl who's hand disappears into the sun and comes back with red swirls. It happens for the first time when she is reaching for an apple in an apple tree. Then her hand also warms her bath water until it is too hot to bear.

Thank you! I realized I had put in the wrong category after I had posted it, but I couldn't find where it was.

I read the book in 2007, and it is part of a series. The whole series had been released by then.

I remember that in one of the books her brother was a dream magician or mage?
